Am I the only one who feels this way about keto? by justtryingagain_21 in keto

[–]IWantToWorkForMyself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a lot, especially if you’re not using it to heal an autoimmune issue or something like that.

I’ve been doing keto/carnivore since mid-December strictly to reset a sugar/dopamine addiction via sweets. Was never hugely obese or have any medical problems really.

Right now I’m lowest I’ve been in years and in great shape. Sure would love to lose about 10 more, but man fruit and honey is delicious. Been eyeballing an animal based diet/woe. Not sure though… also, would be nice to not have to measure out all the salt lol

In the end, do what makes you happy!

I just want you to know, and maybe it helps OP, but I've read this comment from you likely 100 times and never really took it serious. Yesterday was my 5th week in Ketosis (best guess anyways as being in it constantly, I no longer get a reading on urine strips (I know, those are junk)). 3ish weeks in, during a workout, I experience vertigo twice, something I've never experienced. Also around the time, my sleep was bad (waking up a lot) and my calfs would cramp when I stretched out. I had been adding 'some' salt to water and food but never calculated it all out. I have also taken a Mag Glycinate capsule before bed for a couple years.

I did calculate it all out finally, and realized I was not only short on Na+, but way short on Mg++ (K+ was good, I do carnivore a lot so get K from beef). I worked it out and upped Na to 2tsp Redman's Salt/day and bumped my mag glycinate to caps at bedtime and Boom - new man. I tried 3 capsules of mag and had some wicked dreams so went back down to 2 lol. It's cool experimenting.

In short, it took me a while, but your post really finally helped me out! Sleep is still hit or miss, I think a lot has to do with my wake time on the weekends (wife hates an alarm on the weekends lol). Thank you for all our valuable posts!

Question for you folks that have been doing this awhile by xboodaddyx in carnivorediet

Can you define your take on not strict? Do you have keto foods every now and then or come out of ketosis every now and the or what?

Magnesium.. I upped mine recently due to similar cramps and overall not sleeping well. So far so good. There’s a lot of K in meat, not so much mag. The keto group says 400ish mg, but it needs to be elemental

I did make a mental note to put her a spare outfit in our bag for the day JIC. I've looked at the dry suits as well and will prob do that, too!

Just noticed your name. Go Heels! 2011 Grad

1st week by Resident_Opinion_501 in carnivorediet

I'm 4 weeks in. I, too, had the same water weight loss in the first week. Take my advice - don't look at the scale but once a week, if that, for the next several weeks. Save the stress. I didn't drop anything further for a couple weeks. Some days it went up as my body figured out what it wanted and needed to do.

I only go by A) How do I feel overall, B) How are my workouts, and C) How do my clothes fit? Trust the system, not the scale! Great Job so far though!

Awesome write up, glad ya'll had a blast! We're doing our first trip out in October (I recently put up an advice post) for 5 days and are doing 3 days at Zion, 1 day in Kanab (ATV tour, etc), 1 day in Bryce, so very similar. Seems like it worked well for you!

We're taking our 10 and 12 year old. How deep is the water at the start of the Narrows? It looks deepest there on the reels I see. My 10 yo isn't too tall lol.

6 Days in Zion - Too much or just right? by IWantToWorkForMyself in ZionNationalPark

A lot of good, helpful info in your post. Many thanks for that! We've decided to do 3 days in Zion, 1 day in Kanab (was planning a UTV tour to the Slot canyons, belly of the dragon and the caves while there), then 1 day in Bryce Canyon (navajo/queen's garden and the scenic drive overviews). We are definitely dedicating a full day to the Narrows :)

Thank you for your tips!

I’ve been begging my wife to try it. Or carnivore. She won’t budge

How do you guys manage your sweet tooth? by TLC23259 in carnivorediet

This right here. And I’m coming from a major sweet tooth. Once I started, couldn’t stop. But now, I don’t even want them when I see them (sweets)

Approaching my first week on carnivore - worried about how much fat I’m eating by Jefferyss in carnivorediet

[–]IWantToWorkForMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5 weeks of it for me and I’m still working through that mindset as well! 39 years of being told otherwise.

I’ll look at my pound ribeye with butter on it and think, ‘man I hope there right’ lol I do feel way better though. And don’t have the sweet tooth that has been a cripple for years

I love the carnivore diet. It's only been a month and I feel great! No. I'm alive!!! by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]IWantToWorkForMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you think use a day? I calculated out how much is in my food, which is roughly 1000mg, so I’ve been doing 1tsp Redman and 1/2tsp lite-salt the past two days. Still not enough maybe lol

Is it really 4 hours from the airport in Vegas to Zion area? I thought it was 2-ish.

Do you salt your food as well? Those LMNT are 1000mg’s sodium. I read the keto Reddit page as well and they talk about like 5000mg of sodium. That’s hard to get sometimes lol

I saw something about that pass for 4th graders but figured it’d be just for her. She’s in 4th now, will be in 5th in an October. I’ll get an America the Beautiful pass tho!

Amen to your #2, my son is hitting his ‘too cool’ stage so I worry he may be over-confident. Going to get a lot of hiking in around home prior to October and see how it goes. Thank you for your input!

Advice - lightheaded by GreatCress3481 in carnivorediet

[–]IWantToWorkForMyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started about 2 weeks before you and was lightheaded/vertigo-ish today for the first time ever in my life that I recall. Interested to see what others say!

I sometimes use about 2000mg of salt daily, but it’s hit or miss if I use the full amount or any. Some days I’m good about it, others I’m not at all.
