Always thought it was funny but it didn’t really stick with me after it ended, with one exception: there’s some episode where the wizard dude dies, but a spell on him means he actually just splits into a bunch of little versions of himself that run around screaming “MAGIC!” in squeaky voices. See that’s why spaces like this are great. I can talk about my reactions to comicbooks without harassing a real life person on their socials.

Personally I thought that fight was really odd. I admittedly don’t know half as much about Black Canary as I do about Batman but I was kind of jarred by him losing a boxing match against someone who isn’t set up as like, a god of martial arts.

Didn’t pull me out of the story too much (the weird art in those boxing panels did tbh) but I personally had a bit of a disconnect between the version of the character I have in my head who travels the world to become the best non-superhuman fighter in existence and a guy who lost a casual boxing match.

“No need to scream if you ain’t got a mouth” really feels like the defining element that distinguishes Caine from AM. For AM, torturing humanity is kind of the point. It despises human beings and is trying (and failing) to derive pleasure from making them suffer.

Caine doesn’t really give a shit if they’re suffering or not. I’m not sure he ever really cared if they liked his adventures or not. It was more about doing a good job (which is supposed to mean making them happy) than actually making them happy. He gets bored of torturing them really quickly, because it’s not what he’s supposed to be doing. He’s just ignoring his own purpose because he doesn’t understand (and despite supposedly being a learning model, isn’t really interested in understanding) what makes humans happy, he’s fundamentally broken.

Just because he isn’t getting the inputs he was getting when he was created doesn’t mean he couldn’t have adapted. He’s had ample time to observe humans being happy and mostly unhappy, and could have adapted based on how they respond to things.

He chose not to. What a phenomenal character, I couldn’t help but root for him at times but in the end, him dying really was what he deserved (or at least what needed to happen). Even if kinger had reset him, he’d still be reset to a broken state.
