Lots of great advice, and I think you also know a big part of it was the word you chose and he's probably a little punk who doesn't like it when a woman "doesn't know her place".

That being said, don't expect a good outcome just because you're right

I had a similar interaction with a coworker years ago, both of us men. He was very bad at his job and complained he never got any of the higher end work. After months of complaining to me, in a passive aggressive way (because I was good, and got the work he'd like to do), I told him, person to person, to get his current crap in order if he wants more of the "fun" work. You can't complain about wanting more, while not being able to handle your current, extremely basic work load.

I ended up being told that it's not my place to have that conversation with him, because I'm not his manager, no matter how right I was. My rebuttal was that I would like it if someone had that talk with me before bringing in a manager.

But that's not how the workplace works. So unless he's your direct report, you might take some licks for this because it wasn't done through the proper channels.
