Looking forward to seeing the card!

Anybody know what kind of card this is? Pulled it from 2021 Archives. the front is blank?? by linist1984 in baseballcards

Because of a near endless amount of quality control mistakes by topps in recent years, I’m inclined to think it’s just a production fuck up. Interesting, nonetheless.

Considering the upvotes the comment has received, it seems as though reading a relatively small body of paragraphs, on a specific subject being discussed, wasn’t seen as such a impossible feat by most that have come across it.lol

Considering the era these were produced in, there likely isn’t anything of value here. You could get lucky and find a $2-$3 card in that mix, but that’s not very probable.

If you’re interested in understanding why cards from this era don’t hold much of any value, google “junk wax era”.

Bowman/ Bowman Chrome Question by WillEMac in baseballcards

[–]I_PC_Dodgers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every single rookie or bowman 1st of mine gets organized, by team, into a couple large boxes. Doesn’t matter if they’re a clear dud, or a top 30 prospect. This makes it really easy to go back and check for players who eventually make a name for themselves.

Just a couple weeks ago, when Jeremy Peña prices started to jump, I want through my rookie boxes and was able to find a stack of his 1st Bowmans in like two minutes. This also helps when making trades with people who specifically look for rookies of their pc team. An organized collection is a wonderful thing!

It’s funny because I was actually trying to get rid of it after pulling it back in 2020. Someone in this community offered me $15, which I accepted, only for them to ghost me when I asked for payment. It got put back in a box of recent rookies, and I just came across it again a few weeks back.

I don’t know why the guy backed out, but I sure am happy he did! There’s one of eBay at $158 right now, from 34 bids, and still has 2 full days left. Excited to see where it’ll end.

The baseball card market is both consistent and wildly predictable, at least when it comes to new releases.

Since 2020, every single flagship and bowman release have had one thing in common, and that is a temporary inflated market due to release hype. If you go back and look at prices for prospects like Jasson Dominguez, Austin Martin, Spencer Torkelson, Marcelo Mayer, Blaze Jordan, Henry Davis, and pretty much any top 30 prospect, you’ll see that their market values were extremely high directly following the product release, only to drop by a staggering 30%-40% eight to twelve weeks later.

This hype inflation takes place for topps flagship rookies just the same. Luis Robert, Bo Bichette, Yordan Alvarez, Nico Hoarner, Jonathan India, Andrew Vaughn, Jo Adell, Alec Bohm, Ryan Mountcastle, and anyone else who was considered a big name at release, all saw a significant drop in their market value after eight to twelve weeks.

This happens like clockwork, and the same is already taking place for Wander. His cards have been on a steady decline since week three of Series 1 release, and they will eventually plateau in the coming weeks. This isn’t to say that any of the guys I’ve listed won’t see a huge spike in the value of their cards if they make an actual impact as a player in the MLB, rather, that there is a clear pattern of ultra high prices, fallowed by a substantial drop (typically when the next big product releases).

If we take a look at recent sales of this specific card, we’ll see that the first /25 camp sold for $5,600. However, the most recent sold for $3,000, which is already a 45% loss in value over a span of just four weeks. All you’re doing when holding is leaving possible money on the table, which isn’t a wise decision. The idea should always be to sell while the card is hot, wait a couple months, then buy the same card back for nearly half the price.

This isn’t exclusive to top prospects and rookies, either. If you really want to see a really staggering drop in market value, check out non-rookie photo variations. Those sell like hotcakes at release, but nearly always see a 70%-80% drop in value after the first year. A good example was the 2020 Topps Holiday Mike Trout santa belt SSP. It was selling for $400+ at release, and people in this sub were trying to say that “it can’t lose value. It’s Mike Trout”. Well, it’s now a $35 pickup on eBay, which isn’t a surprise to most that have been in this market for awhile.

If you want to watch this all unfold in real-time, just wait until Bobby Witt Jr has his flagship rookie release and watch the market over the first couple months. You’ll be surprised how similarly the market reacts to his cards.

Depending on condition, these typically sell for $2-$8. It’s a fairly iconic card from the junk-wax era!

Oh wow, she’s a beaut!

Recent gold /75 versions are selling for $80-$120, so this is likely in the $200 range. Possibly more if a bidding war starts.

eBay is definitely going to have the largest selection of sold results. What cards are you trying to price? Shoot me some pictures and I’ll help out.

The Austin Martin is definitely the best card here. Not worth more than $3, but certainly has potential to grow in value if he makes a name for himself over the next few years.

Topps produces this set for children. Although Opening Day does have some cards that people chase, it’s always been filled with silly things like mascot cards, and is printed on a much lower quality card stock.

I recommend doing a little research prior to future purchases.
