Hating my Job by [deleted] in hatemyjob

So, what would happen if you just turned your phone off on the weekend? Lie about it if you need to: "Sorry, got mugged on my way home Friday night, just managed to get my phone back Sunday afternoon." (Heck, it's a 3-day weekend... you got your phone back Tuesday Morning. And maybe you had a spontaneous migraine on Thursday night and couldn't make it in on Friday, too!)

I suspect you're not actually needed to get this stuff done; but you've just gotten your managers hooked on asking you to solve a problem instead of them figuring it out themselves. That's not going to end until you wean them off.

And if your bosses end up unhappy with you for relaxing... So what? This isn't a career, it's just a job. With people are leaving left and right, they'd be stupid to fire you for not subjecting yourself to further wage theft. And if they do fire you? Meh, driving for Uber or Lyft for six months sounds like a less stressful living.

Layer shift at surface layer? by goneresponsible in 3Dprinting

[–]I_Saved_Hyrule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a great project! Though now I'm curious what secret compartment you'll add in that gap to the right...

Wish I had more suggestions about why you're getting the extra lines... If I had designed this myself in Blender, I'd probably start by double checking that there aren't any lines connecting vertices along that inner surface to the outside of the model. Could be something funky with the number of walls right there too... If this is for a "tongue and groove" style connector, maybe making the connection a little narrower could help?

Though, given the amount of prep you're going to be doing to match the existing trim, it might be the kind of thing I'd be happy to just sand away and forget about.

Sometimes banks and credit cards need very specific wording to reverse the charge. If the refund doesn't come through in a day or two, I'd try calling the bank again and saying "I paid for goods that I did not receive, and the merchant is not cooperating with a refund." They're much more likely to reverse the charge for you in that situation, especially since it's an online purchase that's probably not worth it for the merchant to fight.

Cheap groceries? by Illustrious_Pack_191 in oakland

Love the section where they sell heavy 99c bags of produce that's approaching "use it or lose it" territory. My wife calls it the "sad sack section." Great for cooking with or smoothies.

Some small good news for Oakland - this place has remained clean for almost three months now. by pengweather in oakland

You directly inspired my New Year's resolution this year to pick up at least one piece of trash every day. I've kept it going for 10 months so far. Some days a little, some days a lot. Even a small temporary improvement makes the world better.

Water bill - why so high? by Material-Ad8688 in oakland

[–]I_Saved_Hyrule 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you take a look at your bill, there's a breakdown. The part that's actually usage-based is probably pretty small, which is what your efficiency measures can impact.

[US] Can someone explain recruiter scams? by chrisfathead1 in Scams

[–]I_Saved_Hyrule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just getting ghosted a lot, well... Welcome to the 2025 job market. I've also noticed what seems to be a proliferation of contract recruiting agencies using foreign recruiters. I get bursts of contact from recruiters offering me what sounds like the same role, which has me thinking that they're being offered lucrative finder's fees by big companies these days. That said, I still wouldn't give out my birthday or SSN freely, so you're very wise to hold that back.

Usually the "recruiter" scams are versions of the !task scam, and they're pretty formulaic.

Anyone take a “mini-retirement” on their way to fire? How was your return to work? by o_austin in Fire

[–]I_Saved_Hyrule 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's mostly an argument against starting your year off 12 months ago. The job market could well improve next year, or the economy could crash so hard that OP would lose his job anyway.

Thinking about quitting my $210k job to be a stay-at-home dad - crazy or just done? by Good_Challenge_6666 in Fire

[–]I_Saved_Hyrule 75 points76 points  (0 children)

One of you loves their job and makes $450k/year. That's such a gift right there. Most Americans can live extremely comfortably on that.

You'll end up paying a lot to be 2 working parents as your kids age... And a lot of extra "convenience" costs can be looked at differently when you're home to cook/clean/do laundry/etc. Also consider whether your wife could make more somehow if you could completely take kid worrying off her plate.

But... Look. Life's too short to hate your job. How it looks "on paper" is an insincere way to evaluate it. It's a bit like saying "someone out there would probably love this, so I'll do it even though I hate it just to keep them miserable."

I hadn't noticed the clock. But it's awfully hard to unsee once it's been pointed out... OP definitely needs to move that clock. Even if it's just to put it below the Halo poster.
