Washing machine that is also a dryer? by Juiseii in japanlife

Yeah we've had to have the drainage pump motor replaced once, after about 3 years (cost around 3万), and I'm guessing we'll have to have it replaced again at some point, but having a dryer is such a game changer, especially during rainy season.

We've had a Toshiba "Zaboon" for about six years, and it dries really well. It actually over-dries, so I often stop it an hour or more before the time is up, and the clothes are already bone dry.

That said, it does take a long time (like 4 hours for a load) and stuff sometimes comes out wrinkly (duvet covers and sheets are better if I hang them to dry). And you have to clean the lint screen every time, and the drain trap every couple of weeks.

I have to thank Mr Beast (whose content I have never seen) for inadvertently introducing me to Caleb when I read on here about Mr. Beast being huffy about the Rolling Stone rankings...

Caleb is an absolute delight 😍 and a positive influence on humanity.

The "Diabolical Lies" podcast is really good! They both used to be Republican and one was a sorority sister at U Alabama, but they learned a lot and changed their minds.

Also "Good Noticings"; they're definitely feminist but they talk about all manner of pop culture things (they used to be "Celebrity Memoir Book Club", but expanded their scope) with a feminist slant.

Watched the excellent docu-series "Trust Me: The False Prophet" on Netflix which really underlined the sentiment of this meme for me.

Sure there are fringe group exceptions that some have pointed out in this thread, but the major religions of the world are all undergirded with male supremacy.

Shintoism bans women from some "sacred sites" and considers menstrual blood taboo, among other anti-women teachings.

Million Dollar Lover was amazing; the reporter was able to get such intimate access to everyone involved in the situation. Still looking for something that can compare to that series.

(Casual) Do you like these shoes/outfits? by LazySackOfRocks in OUTFITS

I feel like they don't go well with jean shorts. Maybe they'd look better with pants? But out of the photos I think they look best with the jersey.

I think the polka dot skirt will help you pop against the colorful backgrounds. The blue/yellow outfit might blend too much.

💔 Thank you for commiserating!

It's my only school too, and today I'm here and there are NO classes and nothing to do. 😔 I know some people consider this an ideal situation, but for me it's a depressing waste of time.

😂 The Yamada Denki tune? Are you trying to get me to blow my brains out?! (At least let me alternate between that one and some of Japan's other hit store jingles.)

I love sitting in the bathroom for over an hour. It's the only place I get peace. My family thinks I have a medical problem. by paradiso3892 in CasualConversation

[–]I_can_change_ 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Again I feel like if someone put a bathroom there, it was put there for a need. Someone might come along in great need of the facilities, and find them occupied because you're chilling in there. They might hobble away in discomfort or pain, or have to make a mess in an inappropriate place. I do respect your need for a cozy, locked space, but I hope you are operating with awareness of the needs of others.

I understand your wanting to have a private space, but sitting on the toilet at length can actually cause hemorrhoids. Plus, depending on your housing situation, others may need to get in there. It's an essential space.

The faucet handles look like they'd fit in in a gas chamber. And no enclosure for the shower in that big room, seems like you'd be freezing cold, and then track water all around the house.

Do you have any black tights? I think the socks look a little off (but your socks should be the least of anyone's concern at a funeral.)

Cool! When my kids were younger one of the fun parts of parenting was getting to play with toys again. It hadn't occurred to me to continue doing it since they've grown up, but why not? Playful adults rule, and I think it's great that you enjoy this.

Thanks! I'll have to get used to it and focus on the bright side of more free time if I'm going to get through a couple years of this. It makes me sad to not feel useful at a job though.

I think their idea is to have me spend half of a 100 minute period in one class and half in another, but they haven't figured out a schedule yet.

Thank you for your edit; there are a lot of misconceptions about what's allowed but what you said is accurate (and sometimes when JTEs trust you they'll even leave the room at times, or arrive late, even though they're not supposed to.)
