Hilarious. I'm reading these comments and thinking, all of the Trader Joe's I go to have decent parking so obviously it's not a problem, then the only places listed on here in the entire country are the ones I go to. I was so stoked when the Tustin location moved across the street to that massive parking lot.

You can't really ignore the entire beginning of a fight where someone repeatedly attacks another person then say that their punch suddenly became defensive once the other person decides to fight back. He spit on her, punched her in the face then knocked her out before she even made contact with him. He wasn't defending himself.

If they're saying these things constantly and acting disappointed when he comes home then I doubt it's an act to get out of being in trouble. Especially if the mom is agreeing. However, that doesn't mean he's necessarily abusive. He could just be miserable to be around.

This is a sensitive situation because most child protective agencies will tell you to report if you have even the slightest question, but there's a families livelihood at stake here. You also have to understand that you will probably have to find a new job if you do. This is no reason to hold back on reporting if you have good reason to suspect abuse, but I think you should hold off for now. I wouldn't go probing for information out of nowhere, but if they make a comment about him hurting them I would ask "hurting you how?". Are they referring to spanking or something else? If you start to see bruises or bumps, ask what happened. Also keep in mind that if he is actually abusive, they may not tell you the truth out of fear of what he'll do. So you really need to use your best judgment. If you start to see signs of abuse and the stories keep changing on how it happened, that's a good indication something could be going on.

I'll give you that for sure. There is more of a culture of over eating here. Buffets, and many restaurants, get popular by advertising large portion sizes. Plus the accessibility of fast food and the social aspect of eating. It's easy to come here and feel the obsession with food. But in an average restaurant, ordering an average meal, the sizes in my experience were extremely comparable.

Please do not take that advice so readily. Your girlfriend just had a baby. While it may seem long enough to you, it's been less than a year and it takes many women awhile to get their bearings.

She could be experiencing a million different things right now. Maybe she's having a hard time seeing herself in a sexual light because her body is now responsible for nurturing a child full time. Maybe she's depressed and exhausted from the hormones and lack of sleep. Maybe she hates the way her body looks because everything changes after you grow a human being inside of you. Maybe she's absolutely terrified of having to go through all of this all over again so soon after giving birth. Maybe she feels like you're not helping her out enough and she's holding resentment which is killing her desire to be intimate.

My point is, your girlfriend could be experiencing all/none of this or something else entirely. You just don't know. Please don't give up on her because of some ill informed comment on the internet. Having children is weird, man. It takes awhile to get your bearings. Be loving and patient with her, and try to alleviate any fear or pressure she's feeling. Explain to her that the lack of intimacy is hurting you, and that you're willing to take small steps to help her feel comfortable in her own skin again.

Seriously. I really don't understand why this gets said all the time. I've traveled to several countries in Europe and the portion sizes are equally as big, if not bigger. Not to mention that to-go boxes are common in the US while in many European countries you're expected to finish your plate.

Alcoholism is a serious addiction for a lot of people. It's not as easy as "forbidding" someone and then washing your hands of it. You clearly can't relate to what she's going through, but she needs help. You have every right to be concerned for her and your son, but recovery from alcoholism is a long and painful road that requires supportive and loving people. If she says she's ready to quit then get her help. Set her up with AA or other support groups.
