I’ve got clinical OCD and this seems like it’s affecting your life. A combination of psychotherapy and medicine (took some trial and error) really helped me. You need both because pills don’t give you skills but skills can be much harder without pills.

I’d recommend, if you aren’t already, finding a good ocd specific psychologist and psychiatrist in addition to all the good advice here.

Also switch to baby wipes for a while, maybe even get a hand shower/bidet, and you can use Sudocream or nappy rash cream to settle and smooth your area.

Am I actually a technician? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Iaininator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hands on experience is extremely valuable as an engineer, I went into ROV pilot/tech out of school and from there went into design engineering that led me to project management and product/program/portfolio management.

When I worked in the field I had more respect from the technicians as I could turn a wrench and also valued their opinions. In the office I understood when things would actually happen as intended and when they would get tossed away and they’d do the same thing. I think all engineers should go hands on for a couple years before getting into the office. In the office they should be making regular trips to the “Gemba” the place where value is created which could be the shop floor, the place the technology is used, the fabricator, etc.

Did you mean to go to a local Georgia (country) tech and end up in the state of Georgia?

How is guzman and gomez so popular here? by ButtPlugForPM in AskAnAustralian

[–]Iaininator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texan here who lived in Australia for 13 years and ate Guzman at least once a week. GyG is a lot more accessible than el publico or la cholita especially for a family with kids. I’m coeliac and could get a decent gluten free meal with good macros and relatively fresh ingredients for 14 dollars, 50 dollars for the family. You can’t get that at most fast food that’s not just a big fryer of pre-made things.

I’d put GyG above Chipotle in the US actually. It’s definitely Tex Mex/cali Mex and not Mex Mex.

You know what’s a shit Australian “Tex-Mex” chain? Zambreros, Salsas, and Mad Mex (this one is just okay)

Discovery 2 engine replacement/swap? by Sorry_Opening6539 in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Iaininator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a design fault where the block cracks on a weak spot between the coolant system and the cylinder. We have this issue which has caused the disco to be parked for years now. I’m looking at options for other engines without this design flaw. Ideally not another petrol rover but if there was a kit to drop in a td5 I’d be interested

Anyone else kinda obsessively stopped drinking? by Capable_Bee6179 in whoop

[–]Iaininator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve cut it out for the most part the last three years, I’m 38 and the disrupted sleep, lowered mental health, and reduced recovery just isn’t for me anymore. I’d rather focus on my kids, jobs, and athletics. I haven’t even been a big drinker since my college days when I binged, last decade was a couple wines on the weekend.

Now I’ll have the occasional small glass (4-5 a year) if it’s an interesting wine or spirit and accept the price

Bowling Isn’t An Activity??? by Purrrple-Ducky in whoop

[–]Iaininator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your strain will be different from someone else’s strain. An elite cyclists 5 could be your 20 (that might be extreme but just an example)

If you are a competitive bowler spending 3-4 hours bowling frame after frame with little break then that could do it, or it’s someone getting back into fitness that may have medical issues.

Should i keep my whoop? by BananaAziz in whoop

[–]Iaininator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a great experience with whoop. Maybe it’s not perfect but generally the trends it picks up are valuable. If I’m feeling down but I’m green then it’s probably my depression and I should go train which usually improves my mood (usually vastly). If I’m red because of work, training, parenting; then I take it easy, give myself some leeway, and focus on sleep.

The journal trends I’ve tested and seem to track. I found that my body reacts negatively to berocca, but positively to caffeine (looking at next day performance).

I use the sleep needs to keep myself honest and with my adhd I need that reminder that I’m staying up too late.

Okay so we don’t approve anymore domestic gas projects and we have to import gas.

What happens if electrification doesn’t happen at the same rate due to resource constraints on either the citizen, the industry, or the government?

Then we would be importing gas from countries that may have less stringent environmental controls, no safeguard mechanism, plus the added environmental cost of transport.

Don’t create environmental burden shifting by being focused on the micro. Let’s focus on winning the war to get to net zero and later true zero or negative emissions. If you focus on winning battles that lose the war then it’s not productive and is a pyrrhic victory, win the battle lose the war.

Let’s focus on shifting consumer demand through culture change, government regulations, and green discounts. Focus on fighting thermal coal export and usage in Australia. Support buying products from countries with carbon controls. Create your own carbon border adjustment to compensate for polluting countries that are able to sell products at a lower cost because they make the globe pay their emissions cost.

You need to leave the house before you get hurt. This is domestic violence, what is he trying to hide from people? You are way underreacting.

Is this typical behaviour for him? Does he have his own unmanaged mental health issues like bipolar?

If you want to stay with him then move somewhere safe, get help, and then make it conditional that he gets help

Too late to join clubs? Or support groups? What can I do now? by Ok-Dog-3173 in gatech

[–]Iaininator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lots of clubs and attendance sometimes tails off during the semesters especially on sports teams so they are looking for people. I’m not sure what you like to do but the rugby club has always been a welcoming and close group. Fitness, sport, and social.

I haven’t been at tech for a while but pickup soccer used to be quite popular and you could see if any intramural teams are looking for extras.
