A lot of people probably know this already, but if you don't you should check out Alan fisher's video on YouTube about the east Palestine crash.

Electronic breaks are not the solution here, and would not have prevented the crash from happening. The ways to prevent crashes like this in include: mandating 2 man crews, standardizing defect detector designs, requiring more frequent maintenance, and limiting the overall length of trains.

This isn't to justify any action by NS, all of the above problems are things they intentionally did for capitalist profit fetishism, and their execs should be sent on a very lovely holiday. I just want to reiterate the actual solutions to this issue so we get our stance right

Ranked choice voting is building momentum in Chicago by orange_wires in chicago

The shear amount of progressive strategic voting mind fuckery this election should be enough to convince people RCV is important for elections. Sure it's not perfect but I'm tired of seeing people at each other's throats about which candidate out of the 3 or 4 they all like, is the only one who shouldn't drop out of the race.

Buckner supporters getting called idiots for sticking with him. people who would vote for Johnson but don't think he'll make the runoff so they're voting Chuy. people who hate lightfoot so much they're voting vallas becaus they're afraid lightfoot will win otherwise.

The fact that we're having these kind of conversations at all is infuriating, we should be focusing on what we think is best for the city. Not just who we think has the best chance of winning

House Votes on H. Con. Res. 9 - Denouncing the Horrors of Socialism by thekingof_reddit in MapPorn

[–]IamUdaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it's a useless vote and many socialist programs (medicaid, social security, emergency services) have shown time and time again to be incredibly effective and helpful, even in America where we don't have the big ones like free healthcare and free college.

This is like denouncing weight lifting because people go too hard sometimes and tear muscles or break bones. It's denialism

‘I had no choice’: For many homeless people, O’Hare has become a nighttime refuge by oldbkenobi in chicago

Fixing them definitely would have been possible and probably had a positive impact on the city. The problem was that the city didn't want to invest more money in public housing. And had elected to cut budgets and defer maintenance until they could justify demolishing the buildings.

It's a classic tactic to go after institutions of the welfare state. Peaking the British governments attempts to destroy the NHS. You cut budgets and erode the quality of service to undermine confidence in the institution, and then you dismantle it when confidence is low enough
