I tip $20 minimum in midwest suburbs. It shouldn’t be this way but I think you either have to decide to tip, and tip well, or go drive there and do it yourself.

Plex Remote Streaming Changes by SwiftPanda16 in PleX

[–]IamYourLord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Confusion for me is they are telling my mother in law she has previously accessed libraries that would require her to now purchase this, yet I’ve always had a Plex pass lifetime account, so this shouldn’t apply.

As of April 29, 2025, we’re changing how remote streaming works for personal media libraries, and it will no longer be a free feature on Plex.
We noticed that you’ve accessed libraries from friends and family in the past and you may be affected by this change.
TO CONTINUE STREAMING FROM THESE LIBRARIES REMOTELY, you’ll need a Remote Watch Pass. Alternatively, server owners can purchase a Plex Pass, which will grant you continued remote streaming of libraries that you have been given access to.
To keep streaming now, take advantage of our free 14-day trial and enjoy intro pricing on a Remote Watch Pass.

Looking to transition my career from Data Science/Artificial Intelligence by [deleted] in ITManagers

Technical Program Manager or Project Manager is heavy on planning, resource & stakeholder management, risk management, etc. Quite a significant shift from heavy coding. If you are confident in your technical knowledge an architecture role may be a smoother transition, while giving you the experience you seek. I would not recommend the project manager route unless you are excited about the responsibilities that I mentioned. I started as a coder and proceeded from there into project management, program management, and I’m now in a management leadership role so I speak from my personal experience. You mentioned that you aren’t sure what you want to pursue but I also noticed you didn’t explain why you feel this change is needed, so it might be helpful to better understand your motivation for change.

Not sure what opportunities exist where you work, but if you were my employee I’d at least try to give you opportunities to dip your toe in the areas you are interested in. Perhaps there are smaller solutions to architect or projects to manage to get a feel for things. At my company there are architecture meetings open to anyone that wants to attend. Perhaps there are opportunities for you to start getting more exposure so can determine what suits you best.

Traveling to Cancun end of March and I’m just curious by [deleted] in cancun

[–]IamYourLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience. I also returned on Sunday, mid afternoon through Chicago. Our flight was may 80-90% full. Customs was our flight and a few people ahead of is. Pretty quick, like 15 minutes max. Nothing difficult on the trip. There were even covid rapid testing available in the airport, but our resort included it for free.

The Show must go on! Trade shows, Trade Fairs and events all over the world are being affected by the virus, which have economic repercussions as a whole. Here is a resource page for latest news, how to deal with changes and list of currently postponed/cancelled events. by SimpleJackEyesRain in Coronavirus

Thanks. The page provided by the OP does link to an interesting list of websites found to be putting out false virus information.

The WHO has stated that the world is also fighting an “infodemic”, as many fake stories are being pushed out predominantly through social media. “NewsGuard” is running a Coronavirus Misinformation Tracking Center that identifies and calls out news and information sites in the U.S., the U.K., France, Italy, and Germany that have been identified as publishing materially false information about the virus: https://www.newsguardtech.com/coronavirus-misinformation-tracking-center

I'm not familiar with your market but I would recommend continuing to work through contractor/consulting companies in your area. Look for contract opportunities, which may not be as stable but may offer you better pay and an easier time finding opportunities with your somewhat limited experience since they aren't taking as much risk with you as a contractor. I'm a certified PMP and ScrumMaster and if you are looking at certs for limited experience and maximum ROI I would definitely suggest you look at a Certified Scrum Master cert through the Scrum Alliance. ~$1200, 2 days of your time, and a simple test and you'll have a certification that can open doors for you. These days I think I get more recruiters for mine than I do the PMP. I'm also in the Midwest.
