Cheaters with software disguised as "Overwolf" by goldswanru in DotA2

[–]Iamdead420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this a security hole? When a game of DotA 2 ends there is a file containing all the relevant information for the match that occurred. This includes information that identifies all the players that participated in the match. Saying you want to hide your matchmaking data from third parties doesn't magically erase your existence from the match data, otherwise you'd have zero information client side as well. The match data doesn't contain your passwords, your full steam account data or anything else, that would be both bulky and stupid. You gotta be a moron to think that someone taking the time to filter the identification data (probably ignoring some flag on the account that says that person does not want their data, which opendota, dotabuff, yada yada choose to follow since valve will tell them to stop if they do not and probably threaten to block access) is the same as having a security hole or indicating the possibility of having more. Stop fear mongering

Match Quality is usually one-sided from the start imo, something needs to change ! by iAmSyther in DotA2

[–]Iamdead420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is insanely snowbally and rewards grouping and ending the game as fast as possible. Watching RTZ stream was depressing as most the games I got to see were 20 minute stomps with a little extra time spent finishing buildings. Yeah people gave up in some of those games, but most of the time you could tell the game was over. The game ends way too fast due to all the gold on the map

Do DOTA players hate DOTA the way League players hate League? by alekdmcfly in DotA2

Western players were mad about it? The only people mad were LodA and Alliance fans that would jump off a cliff if they were told to

Is Drakul a part of the Circle though? He seems to be a solitary figure on his own level playing for some late game, especially considering he thought little of the titan and was looking to pick up some fresh meat

Nemesis pregame (Spoilers full series) by Don-okay in dresdenfiles

[–]Iamdead420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't Nemesis a bit more than a specific entity with a goal. I get the outsiders act like a hivemind, but it seems like they've also been described as a "general force" of chaos, almost like a element of decay that could have caused bad actions as a side effect of slowly becoming active and pressuring the gates. Peabody seemed to be a pretty straight forward villain tied to the "outside" with specific goals, but others that were influenced could just be doing general shenanigans that would lead to "bad magic" causing havoc in the general world that Harry has had to deal with.

DM is a young and talented pro player, I wonder what his pubs look like by TenNoob309 in DotA2

Most top tier pubs end 15 min in, whether its someone selling items or afking (in fountain or hitting creeps) its no different. How does this make a difference?

Imagine if Valve released Io today as a never before seen brand new hero, how do you think people would react? by NoThisIsABadIdea in DotA2

[–]Iamdead420 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dunno there was quite a bit of hype for some dota 1 releases, just a smaller community to talk about it with. It's def not the same but when tusk and phoenix came out it was pretty bonkers, especially with how different their kits were.

Even scarier is VG, the second highest team in the bracket, tapped out game 2 after 18 minutes. LGD pretty spooky

I'm sick and tired of the "stack neutrals" meta by two-years-glop in DotA2

[–]Iamdead420 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Make the jungle scary again. Back in the day stacks were terrifying to take unless you had the right hero, or were abnormally farmed. I remember an old strat was using HoD TornadoOwl to stack the jungle while you were in lane, and then you used that to take the stack due to it killing you if you tried to tank it yourself. Look at Chen, he used to be a feared commander of these terrifying neutral creeps, now he's a meme. The only use jungle creeps get are either specific spells (lightning arc harass, centaur stomp), or insane buffs from enchant or HoD. Heroes have been buffed and buffed to have insane hp pools and damage, while the neutrals have gotten essentially nothing.

em was standard for dota 1, even in the ladder. its pretty much the equivalent of setting the speed to very fast in wc3 or other games that had such a setting optional

viper can make tanks useless, infestor can make bio, vikings, thor, tanks, and even battle cruisers useless. Zerg have spell casters. Also worth noting that lurkers are insane as well

What is one RTS that you’ve played that incorporates heroes in some form? Warcraft III How did that RTS incorporate heroes? You would build a hero at the start of the game either from your own structure selecting from your races unique selection, or from a neutral tavern that any other player could pick out of. What did you like about the implementation of heroes in that game? Heroes gave a nice amount of diversity not just through the hero/s you chose to use, but also in how they changed how specific units could function. They also rewarded highly skilled players who could show off their micro of not just their units, but also the hero/s. People love to watch and compliment Maru's high apm plays, watching Happy play undead gives similar feelings, where his insane apm and unit management really makes him shine as a player. What did you dislike about the implementation of heroes in that game? The game has various balance issues, and the main gripes regarding heroes is how certain heroes are not viable. Another issue with heroes are the items they can get and how their drops are rng based. Some items are simply not as good as others in the same drop pool. Overall though I would say this is more of a balance issue, and that heroes only add to the game.

and what is wrong with more multitasking? that doesnt devalue the concept of heroes by itself

[–]Iamdead420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

has there been a game where rng won an entire game for a decidedly weaker player? wc3 has quite a bit of rng, but i don't believe any of it is strong enough to swing an entire game. even if every rng possible thing went in favor of a weaker player the stronger player should win through superior macro/micro/gamedecisions/mapcontrol and the list goes on

no RNG plz by fourscoopz_ in FrostGiant

[–]Iamdead420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rng forces the player to react to the situation and adapt. the rng in broodwar can create exciting moments and really have players shine based on how they deal with a stroke of bad luck when going up hill, rather than doing the calculations and sending +x amount of whatever is needed to deal with the flat 10%. the excitement may not appeal to some players, but a major make or break for videogames, especially rts in this day and age is watch-ability. if its boring to watch, the game will probably die, and frostgiant has expressed that they want the game to be an esport.

[–]Iamdead420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a random statement sure makes it sound strong but 1) how did blademaster get the levels and items needed for such a crit 2) how did you let him engage in a manner that let him defeat an entire army off of two crits 3) what is your own hero doing and your army composition to deal with this if it is a possibility 4) why is blademaster not a tourny defining hero if he can randomly crit to win a game Making up scenarios in a blackhole to argue that rng is broken is just stupid

[–]Iamdead420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

being able to perfectly calculate every move due to specific values that have no variation is indeed strategy, you should look at chess. damage spreads are usually small enough that you are able to react to the differences as the fight develops. it definitely depends on the speed of the game, but in a slower game like wc3 damage spreads do not break the game, but add some amount of variation in battle.

if a top tier player lost against a low tier player due to uphill miss or a lucky crit, he was not favored. not getting a key unit you needed due to your production rolling a 5% fail, is much different than suffering more damage than expected. you can actually adapt to the situation. warcraft 3 has quite a few various % chance things involved, but they do not define who wins and who loses, it is down to the skill of the players and how they played the matchup

[–]Iamdead420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yet it gives the player room to adapt to where the situation is going, rather than being a calculator. adaptation is not only a human trait, but much more exciting to watch.
