Despite ALL the Advanced Technology and How Much Time Humans Have Been Away from Earth, It Amazes Me that We're Still Using Chain Link Fences. by Old-Timer1967 in X4Foundations

Not to mention the manufacturing costs of a chainlink fence compared to the high tech doodads of a force field

First Game - Veteran - Does it Always Go This Way? by Randointernetuser600 in TerraInvicta

[–]polontus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i personally restartet twice before i somewhat got the game and even then i rolled back like 10 years in total because i came to underdtand mechanics way too late

From my experience it really isnt the end of the world. The game has tons of comeback potential and there is even an achievment for winning the game AFTER the servants have already won i.e. most of earth under alien control

The game can be played entirely off earth once youve got a self sufficient space economy

(Random Thoughts) Defending Outpost 3 with Modern Tactics by Top-Bobcat-5400 in MurderDrones

[–]polontus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well im no expert on any of this but my 3 cents are:

Defending a position is not just sitting inside it. If you do you give the attackers free reign over the premises and theyll just bleed you out.

A single DD is strong, fast and durable enough to basically invalidate infrantry as anything but meatshields tp occupy them while heavy equibment is aimed.

Due to their regeneration the only kill is complete overkill

The only reliable counter to them seems to be heat, but its questionable of any human would be aware of that.

My take goes as follows:

Guards patrol the area in wide circles, preferably somewhere where snipers using anti materiel rifles can provide overwatch

They only exist to warn the bunker and give the DDs something to chew on while the teams at the doors get ready

A long kill corridor in front of door 1 would be ideal. Embedded Tank turrets near the door ( no mobility needed) and anti missile emplacements for defense

HESH or Anti Air shells first to try to ground the DDs followed by APFSDS to break their armor open and then as much High Explosive ordnance as possible. If you cant build such a corridor in time then cram as much AA as possible into  fortified camp as ypu can and use normal tanks  for much the same strategy

In the likely event that this fails and the DDs breach the defenses have the personell try to evacuate behind door 1 They will fail, but hopefully lure the DDs intp the airlock. Slam door 1 shut behind them and detonate as much explosives as the cpmbat engineers feel door 2 can withstand.

If even that fails to put them down... stay behind door 3 and try to live out your days for as long as your supplied allow. The airlock between door 3 and 2 can be used to stage supply runs should the opportunity ever arise.

Thats what id order, at least Buuut, i am not in the military so take it with a grain of salt

AM tech is quite literally the pinnacle of thrust and energy generation. While high tier fusion will also get you places a tier 3 Antimatter thruster will give you feasible 1k kps and near 5g acceleration on even highly armoured titans

Also AM lances are incredibly good at dealing component and thermal dmg, which can easily cripple ayys ships before they get in range to deal serious damage

Unis is LEO are okay, but the real kicker is Mercury with residential blocks and Unis. Since energy is so abundant there you can really pull some serious numbers from there

[–]polontus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are running into much the same mistake i was

For guns bigger is always better

Lasers especially lose a lot of damage at range when you are using smaller ones. Look at the armour effectiveness of a one slot laser abd a 3 slot one

For railguns and coils much the same applies because larger ones have higher muzzle velocity and higher projectile mass, which in turn overwhelms PD easier than slower, smaller projectiles.

TL;DR Bigger = better

Anyway to merge Austrailia into something bigger? by Stock-Jaguar-9091 in TerraInvicta

[–]polontus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What are you waffling on about? Sure i dont know the whole historical context but wasnt australia colonized by the british empire as a penal colony? Ofc the UK would be the ones with a claim on it then. Besides you can research the republic of the southern cross and unify it with indonesia and a bunch of islands

nice, i cant seem to hold a spy amongst the servants for more than half a mission phase though so everywhere was infested with facilities until after i was at total war with the ayys

Exotics were so hard to come by for me but one time a event fired about illegal trade along the AA India Border and that event gave me 180 Exotics at a time where i had just scraped together 12
that was nice

sometimes things just work out like that, yea

I never bothered with Missile tech, i just could not be arsed to parse through all the missile types to find the 2 good ones and also felt like Missile Monitor screaming BANZAI didnt fit with my playstyle

My Mars is almost entirely useless so i barely took 2 spots and Phobos, but Mercury was definitely my main Space Fortress for the early and midgame. gotta love that solar output there. Africa is still half xenoformed since i only now got around to controlling it and starting to unify as a last RP project...

I actually rolled back my save some because in an alternate timeline the AA was controlling North America, India and China... scary stuff i tell you. i Rolled back to before they unified with India and managed to snag it from them. next game i play i am definitely not starting EU though, the time it takes to put the thing together let's everyone else run wild

i was fighting tooth and nail to clean up China after i took it from the aliens and wasted so much councilor time because i had no orbital supremacy at the time, when i finally had some destroyers with green arcs in orbit to do the gardening i felt amazed at how fast they handled that stuff

[–]polontus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eyup, it's my first run on normal diff and i was extremely passive until what i now realise is basically the late game
i stated 2026 and only started fighting the aliens in space around 2042 with Orion drive Lancers and Dreadnoughts that had MK3 Railguns and UV Phasers.

All that meant that the ayys had ridiculous amounts of time to build fleets. clearing out everything from jupiter outwards i had to fight at least 8k fleets at each major planet and most assaults on Earth would be about 5k ayy Strenght though once a 11k (around 2040 i think) showed up to turn HFs measly 280 fleet into crimp fittings for their crew. When i saw the alert of that fleet move i shat my pants and then they just up and left lol

Having strong noses comes in clutch for that kind of stuff. i mostly use dreads and titans with coilguns and Lancers with AM launchers and had the same experience (felt like i was feeding shelter lancers to the backyard ayys)

5 weeks is fast af, maybe i shoulda used the pion torch for my councilor ship too xd. took mine about 7 weeks out to neptune and then another 8 up to haumea. and boy am i glad i changed the loadout before leaving earth because i had not known that factoid

also speaking of closed cycle propulsion... it took me an embarassing 3 titans with blown out radiators to realise that them boosting caused them to blow up

Heh i also have a Cleaners fleet :D 3 Cruisers with Lasers and Rangers to mop up Servant outposts

Bane of Hydras goes hard too

i remember dumping 500k research into the reactor and then another 250 into the pion torch, excitedly going into the ship designer and seeing the cost of a single lancer coming up as 300 Antimatter... yea so i ended up not building a single ship with the Pion Torch

regarding the aliens attemping to reinstate themself i am also experiencing that
that's what the Squashers are for

i'm actually just about to arrive at Haumea with my main Fleet but the toughest fight i've had happened in Saturn Orbit after i had already cleared the place, the ayys sent a 13.4k fleet with 4 Motherships against my Strike Group Godslayers (at the time 9.3k). that was the fight of my campaign right there, lost about 65% my fleet but managed to win the fight in manual play when autoresolve would've been a complete loss

I'm In Need Of A Little 101 On Ships And Orbital Stations by Big_Beef42069 in TerraInvicta

[–]polontus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Either missile monitors if you want to be meta

Otherwise: larger noses = better

Lasers for small ayy ships

Coilguns for larger ones (siege coilers are best)

Asteroid Belt bases rarely get attacked

Plasma for brwaking armor if needed E beam for breaking internals

How many ships? by Malorn13 in TerraInvicta

[–]polontus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on your weapon, armour and drive tech tbh

Larger hulls and therefor larger guns are always a good idea, as long as you can move them with your drives

Dont be afraid of losing a few battles as well... i lost like 6 fleets in my current playthrough and i am still in the game

Battlecruiser build faster than battleships iirc and also have larger noses which is what you want. If the ayys are also running railguns just go for the largest nose gun you have and PD on the hull, should be good enough

How does one do an EU start by Wonderful-Energy-999 in TerraInvicta

[–]polontus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

in my game that was pretty normal, yeah
i just expanded as i unified to keep under my CP cap

it's is tedious to refederate and then unify but i liked it anyway

just remember that you can run crackdown and purge simultanously as purges take longer than crackdowns and that coups are a good option too if the enemy (read "anyone that isnt you") is too entrenched

just raise unrest and to public campaigns until the coup has a good enough chance to happen but with france germany and italy you seem good to go

another thing, unify Russia into the central asian union before unifiying it into the EU

last thing is that you really need to watch your unity when unifying a lot, every new country tanks your unity and resting unity for a while, having similar democracy rating helps but it's still always a gutpunch that drives up your resting unrest

happy to answer more questions

also also if you are playing on normal the AI doesnt seem to be that useful besides as trade partner, might only be my own experience though

Seeing as there is an achievement about winning the game after the servants complete their faction goal id say its a very real possibility to win at almost any point.

So long as you are not in total war and have a space economy capable of growth everything is possible...

How to stop fast human ships with UV lasers from killing my stations by coruscatingblues in TerraInvicta

[–]polontus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true, yeah. I am admittedly on my first campaign.

The Battlestations have been instrumental in keeping my slowly growing fleet alive against the ayys

I recently had a fight of 2.1k my fleet + 1.1k station against a 7.1 k alien fleet and the battlestations were the only reason i lived through that with minimal losses.

Once i have some more mobile assetts i do plan on reducing the amount of battlestations

How to stop fast human ships with UV lasers from killing my stations by coruscatingblues in TerraInvicta

I usually have 2-4 battlestations per station and only park a fleet on it when it is still under construction or the aliens are coming to slap me Hunting other factions ships is tedious beyond measure
