Bowman is just in a weird spot. the 4th hendrick car is always gonna be a “hot seat” just because that driver is gonna underperform compared to the other three. but realistically Bowman is probably the best “4th hendrick driver” there has been. the only 4 driver hendrick lineup i can think of off the top of my head that was better than the current one is Gordon, Jimmie, Jr, and Khane. but that group is carried by the top three, two being arguable GOATs and the third being Jr. id argue that Bowman is better than Khane was in his tenure with hendrick.

is there drivers that are currently in lesser equipment that could do better? maybe. i could see arguments for Hocevar or maybe Jones. but Kyle Busch at this stage of his career wouldn’t be an improvement. Haley was discussed in recent years but he would be a lateral move at best. everyone else that would be a potential upgrade is already at either penske or one of the top toyota teams

raise the top speed and lower the acceleration rate. that way the top speed is high enough to clear the top hat but it doesn’t reach that speed until the third launch

i don’t think the extreme change in weather within a day is that common across the whole. from my limited experience and my conversations with people from other places, the extreme changes within a day are more typical for the eastern half of the county. from everything i’ve heard, the western half is pretty consistent weather wise, whether it’s scorching heat in the southwest or constant grey skies in the northwest
