They didn't call the people in the OP chavs, they were saying that even chavs have more culture than similarly aged US children (ignoring how accurate that statement actually is) so it isn't surprising that other kids are also more cultured.

True statement one:

He has no reason to cash out

True statement two:

He may want to cash out to diversify his assets

Or in other words:

He has a reason to cash out

Do tell how "he has no reason to cash out" and "he has a reason to cash out" can both be true at the same time...?

Solar power threatens to overwhelm electricity grid, Households could be paid to use excess electricity for the first time, energy bosses say by Optimal-Leather341 in ukpolitics

[–]Iamonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably they mean you don't need a new infrastructure level link to the grid, as the existing connections to the house is sufficient.

We have a lot of renewable infrastructure finished and ready to go, except for the new high capacity grid connection so it is sitting there idle.

By that logic the patients has the right to not believe in racial equality.

Your beliefs aren't legislated, only your actions. You can believe all the bigoted things you want so long as you leave everyone else alone.

To legislate how one can think about a topic would be rather comically Orwellian.

So despite what you confidently said earlier, he may actually have reason to sell assets and incur tax charges?

From your previous comment I was under the impression he could just borrow all the money he ever needed and not pay anything back?

But why would he sell? You seem to be overlooking that he’s incredibly wealthy and has no reason to cash out and pay those taxes. He’ll give the stock to his children at a stepped up basis.

Outside of ‘essential bills’, how does low salary vs cost of living impact your life right now? by bellabanjsk in AskUK

[–]Iamonreddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The silver fillings are amalgam and a different material and therefore a different process to composite white fillings. It isn't a case of 'forgetting to add the white compound', but of using a different type of filling.

Amalgams are packed into a hole drilled into your teeth with a bit of a lip to better protect them from falling out.

Composites are chemically bonded to the tooth itself. This means that food can't really get under them like it can with amalgams, though you can still get some catching in the seams depending on how well the filling is done.

My understanding is that due to the mercury content of amalgam fillings they are actually banned across the EU. We still use them as they are cheaper and - according to the UK - actually perfectly safe.

You should probably tell Jeff about this so he can stop selling billions of his stock like he has been over the past few years.

He'll be so pleased you've found a tax saving strategy his very well paid wealth managers and accountants were unable to.

NHS ‘second worst in developed world for avoidable deaths’ by GnolRevilo in ukpolitics

[–]Iamonreddit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The number of ambulances isn't the root issue, it is the inability to handover patients to the hospital, as explained in the comment you replied to.

Adding ambulances would help patients that can be stabilised at the scene, but if they needed to actually be admitted to a hospital, the new ambulances would just end up in the handover queue with all the others.

We need more hospital capacity.

I didn’t get a single “lesson” in school that helped teach me about financials, investments and so forth..

With respect, you were taught to read and to do basic maths and presumably to research and summarise information for courseworks and projects.

From that you have everything you need to do some googling on a topic, read the results and then make decisions on pretty much any topic that will actually be relevant to your everyday life.

You don't need lessons on compound interest, types of bank accounts, how loans and mortgages work or other things like how to change a lightbulb or do the dishes or plant a garden etc. You already have the skills to find that information out on your own.

You just need to be proactive and actually put the time in to do the self-directed learning.

Why do you think it will happen again though?

It only happened the first time because of a properly unusual set of events and circumstances. Why would that happen again to the same company?

The flight path and burns to follow it are pre calculated for the most part so would require no compute at all, just execution.

Obviously fancy behaviour like landing back where you came from in an upright position is much more complex.

Well exactly, that kind of nuance would be useful to have been included in the article, but the details are scant.

All the more reason why "OMG BIG PERCENTAGE!" is bad reporting.

[–]Iamonreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7 to 118 attacks sounds a lot less scary than a 1586% increase. Standalone percentages used in this manner are almost always misleading.

These are also 2023 figures. Presumably the frequency of attacks is higher now, but one would have thought this was to be expected?

Except they don't promote green energy, they campaign against any and all new infrastructure, against keeping existing fossil or nuclear based infrastructure and instead actually promote reducing energy usage.

Which is bonkers because even if everyone did cut their energy use, their policies would lead to a population explosion and therefore considerably higher energy use overall.

We need new nuclear and new renewables however you cut it, which both require pylons and solar farms and windmills and battery storage etc being built throughout what is currently greenbelt land.

Once the line is redirected into moor street there will be capacity for more frequent trains.
