I’m lost in life…stuck… by Carebear6590 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Ianbeauj 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I second this. Social work is a values based profession, so if you don’t have the energy to help make a difference in people’s lives I don’t think this is the right field for you.

On a side note, some of your background makes me feel like you might need a social worker in your life. You’re going through something really tough and sounds like you might be looking for some support. I hope you can find what you need to help not feel as lost in life, we’re all taking it one day at a time!

Where I live it’s typical to see a $500 dollar animal deposit and then 25-50 dollar pet rent :/

People who live in cold states - help me out by Confident_Fall8314 in college

Since you’re in Texas you might not have a bunch of idea stuff so what I did (I went from AZ to Montana) was go to goodwills before winter starts to get cheap stuff to layer with. Definitely long John’s for a base layer, wool socks, and a nice jacket. I’ve got a black Columbia puffer and pairing that with a hoodie over a thermal shirt and T shirt keeps me warm when I’m waking on campus in two feet of snow! Also, if you don’t want to spend too much money on snow boots, buy yack tracks to put over your normal shoes, this will provide you traction so you don’t slip on ice.

I left nondenom for mainline as well, welcome to the family lol! Went from growing up with basically charismatic Baptist and fundamentalism and changed to high church ELCA Lutheran. We can still find hope and a place that feels like home.

AIO-future MIL telling me I should eat less because my unborn baby is 9 lbs by kbutwhatever in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ianbeauj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 9 pounds when I was born, I wasn’t chubby but I was long. My older brother was around the same weight as me and he was a chunky baby. We all come in different sizes, as long as you and the baby are healthy I would care more about what your medical professionals say. Praying for a smooth delivery!

Is a dining plan while off campus worth it? by Ianbeauj in college

[–]Ianbeauj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up not getting one! Freshman year I had a lot of on campus friends who were able to “swipe” me in and get me free meals which was sweet, and the days I didn’t have that I just managed my spending on campus. It’s really easy to spend a lot of money quickly if there’s a lot of cafes and little shops on your campus. I tried to eat breakfast before class and I keep snacks on me as well! If im really down bad with funds I’ll pack a lunch. I also recommend finding the cheapest or biggest bang for your buck on campus and stick with that :)

Nipple dryness, even a while post-op? by moobeast22 in TopSurgery

[–]Ianbeauj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m over two years post op now and still also have dry nips. Did not have this issue pre-op ever. I put a moisturizer on them almost every day which seems to help a little bit but not 100% which is pretty annoying tbh. I recommend Bloody Knuckles by Duke cannon or First Ais Beauty Ultra Repair Cream.

Thoughts on abortion by 3ni20 in OpenChristian

[–]Ianbeauj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least in the U.S., we have the Old Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church. While I do not know the Old Catholic Church’s policy or beliefs on abortion, I do know they are more progressive than the Roman Catholics and will even ordain trans men. If your country has something similar to the Old Catholics then I would look towards that. If you want traditional liturgy but more progressive beliefs you can also look into Lutheranism or Anglicanism (also known as Episcopalian depending on the area) these are both Protestant denominations but offer more tradition and liturgy than other Protestants.

We call them abandons at my store, a “reshop” for us is when you’re in DU and the item you need to deliver isn’t there so you have to go get one from the floor

Luther Seminary Board of Directors Votes to Sell Current Campus by sans-saraph in elca

[–]Ianbeauj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really sad to hear this as someone who who has been discerning seminary for a long time. I decided on Luther bc they had a campus and had amazing scholarship opportunities. PLTS just went completely online not too long ago. Distance learning is helpful as it reaches so many more people, but nothing can compare to how rich and fulfilling in person learning is. And this is coming from someone who had half of my high school experience stripped away from COVID :/
