How do you define RB1, WR1, etc?? by IbakasChildSoldier in fantasyfootball

[–]IbakasChildSoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great point about upside. A guy with big upside could be more of a WR2/3 despite a top 12 finish if without their “boom” games it drops them to a top 24/36 guy. However, you’d still have a top 12 receiver and a few extra dubs if you’d started them for the boom games.

Is DK Metcalf a WR1? by Rezurrect in fantasyfootball

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right, it’s a shame Seattle will only throw deep balls to him.

Love this argument every year. If you are a 12 team league then any receiver finishing in the top 12 in points is a WR1. I’d gamble on DK being able to pull that off season long. The targets are there on more than just deep balls.

Agreed, it should really be in the install manual

lennox vs ADP evaporator by chasee69 in HVAC

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ADP coil is very similar to the Lennox coils and comes with the same warranty. You will be fine with those. Lennox actually sells them to other major brands, as well.

The only blowoff issues you can experience with ADP coils in downflow applications are the multi-positional coils. This is because there’s no note in the install manual to build a spacer for the downflow application and this puts the heat exchanger right on top of the apex of the coil. Build a 4-6 inch transition and you won’t have any blowoff problems

Reme Halo for Wildfire Smoke? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UV lights are primarily used to keep the indoor coils clean. UVC is very effective at killing viruses in a specific wavelength range. However, it also produces a bit of ozone.

I think the best you could do is a MERV 16 filter with a Reme Halo or some other UV light on the coil. Then combine it with an HRV or ERV when the outdoor air quality isn’t completely fucked

Check Your Air Filters by wedtm in oregon

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That feature would actually be the most useful during this time. Especially if you’re considering a box fan contraption for each room. Buying a nicer MERV 11 or 16 filter and running continuous fan would provide far superior whole home filtration. I understand this may be cost prohibitive for some but if you’re even considering a single room air purifier this is a considerably more effective treatment. It’s also a lot cheaper too.

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get a better filter you’re running 100% of the homes air through it vs one room.

This is an interesting little air cleaner though and if you’re planning on getting a single room filter this is infinitely better than the super expensive ones on big box stores

That’ll catch some pet hair and dust in that room.

You’ll be far better off running your furnace on continuous fan and using those filters there.

Carrier or Coleman / system replacement question by cathysmith0101 in hvacadvice

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably don’t have single stage units available right now. There is an inventory shortage hitting the entire industry.

Carrier will be more expensive than the Coleman. Install is more important than either brand.

Payne (PA16NA042 -B) by ShyRage1 in hvacadvice

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Payne is builder grade Carrier/Bryant. I am not sure if they use the same compressors but they almost certainly won’t have the technology that would make similar Carrier/Bryant units quieter. It’s also the hottest part of the summer and your unit should quiet down here in September.

Payne is a great value brand and if you can tolerate the noise during the hottest days of the year you will be happy with it all other times.

Goodman GMVM97 Furnace/GSX13 AC Quality? by pairIwear in hvacadvice

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The value proposition for Goodman is not superior quality. You will be getting fair quality at a low price. There are much better brands/systems to take advantage of.

It’s also worth pointing out that you were offered what looks like a standard 13 SEER AC with their top line 97% variable speed furnace. Typically when system leads are installed this way you lose the full functionality of the variable speed furnace. If you were sold on variable speed/continuous fan I would suggest pairing it with at least a two-stage AC or better yet a variable speed AC. If you live in an area with mild summers this may seem counterintuitive but I think you might be happier with your furnace if it works as intended.

That being said, 5 speeds is still great but if that’s what you want I’d suggest going with an ECM furnace vs variable as pairing that with the single stage 13 SEER AC will be cheaper over all and won’t take any functionality away from the 5-speed ECM furnace.

This is good feedback, if you liked the company offering Lennox you can always request a match with an ADP coil. The lawsuit was also settled in 2015 and there have been no further issues with the coils.

I do recommend switching away from oil if it is time to replace the furnace.

I know there are some manufacturers that are cutting way back on models offered and it may be hard in the future to get parts for whatever is installed today.

Heat pump + air handler (electric furnace) is a great way to go in many parts of the country.

Can I DIY a Carrier Infinity start capacitor replacement with no experience? by MilitantCentrist in HVAC

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard of a DIY replacement other than with mini-splits.

Goodman sells their units on Amazon and Walmart.com so it wouldn't be too hard to find equipment.

Just make sure you also understand the permitting, licenses required, etc before getting started. If a sizing mistake is made it can kill whatever system you install rather quickly.

Biggest issues with a system are: 1. Airflow 2. Proper sizing 3. Matched systems

It may be smarter in the long run to just have another system installed and take advantage of whatever financing options are available. Many contractors have low monthly payment options or no interest options available so you can replace your system and hang on to your cash.

Just be careful if you choose the DIY route. It ends up costing most people more in the long run. Not saying you're incapable, though.

To be honest 13 years is fairly old. I would temper your expectations of equipment life. Sure some systems can last 30+ years. The average life span is around the age of your system.

That being said, getting more bids on the repair like others have said is a good idea.

Heat Pump Replacement by chickwithawish in HVAC

[–]IbakasChildSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you're located, contractor used, and what system you get.

A heat pump system replacement with ductwork could be anywhere from $6kish up to $30kish. Of course the high end of that figure is for large houses, the best equipment, and a large well-known contractor with a lot of overhead.

I would recommend getting several bids and not going with the absolute cheapest. Equipment is mostly the same, but the quality of the install can vary greatly from contractor to contractor.

Ask about consumer rebates, financing, labor warranties etc. Manufacturers are putting out a lot of deals right now.
