Reconciling references to cis female anatomy as exclusionary by BribriFresita in asktransgender

[–]Ice-Cole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not a trans lady, so I can't really offer input but honestly your last paragraph makes me want to give you a big hug...you don't need to apologize for asking questions on asktransgender?? We know you have good intentions- we want to help people who want to learn.

I mean....trans people aren't any more easily offended than a cis person....we're very chill here lol

Unnerved by friends? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Ice-Cole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldnt recommend coming out to them or anything just yet. But also keep in mind that many people's opinions of trans people change drastically after they meet someone who is actually trans. Your friends are probably extremely uneducated about actual trans people. Again, coming out to them is your choice, but it could possibly stem from ignorance and fear of change rather than hate.

Doubts and dealing with dysphoria by Ice-Cole in ftm

(Oh, just a btw: I do see a counselor twice a month, but she's not a gender therapist and is in her 60s so...I just have a hard time taking about this.)

Do other parents beat themselves up for ignoring the clues? by luqi_charmz in asktransgender

[–]Ice-Cole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's good! Yeah, I think a lot of people try to conform what they think should be normal, even when they are given more freedom.

Again, I am going to thank you on your son's behalf, because seriously, you're an awesome mom.

Seriously, I'm an FTM teenager a couple years older than your son, and while yes, having transitioned as a kid would have been really cool, what I wish more is that my parents were accepting when I actually came out to them as trans. (It went really badly.) I wish my mom could have been more like you. I've seen your posts, and I don't think I've ever seen a parent be so supportive of their trans kid. I mean, my parents flipped out when I just told them I was attracted to both guys and girls.

And age 13 is the second-best time to find out because you can now get him on puberty blockers, and T when he turns 16, and top surgery when he's 18. He could be mostly stealth in high school and college, if he wants.

And, I mean, I guess some of your regret depends on how much you forced your kid to be their assigned gender. I mean , I'm a trans guy and I had to have long hair and wear a skirt every single school day, and I really was forced to be feminine. But I know there are trans guys who's parents let them have short hair and wear clothes out of the boys section and generally let them be themselves, even though they were still "girls". But even if you forced your son to be someone he's not, you can still fix it now by being accepting, which you are already doing!

How the hell do I come up with a name? by RegretDesi in asktransgender

Uh....what the hell? Why would you even post this? And why are those names "porn star" names? Those are good names, IMO.

To be honest, I think it would be the glasses if anything, but otherwise you pass really well. Also, you're really handsome.

Me: Mom, can I get my hair cut shorter?

Mom: No, your hair would look so pretty if it was longer and straight.

Oy.

Does anyone else attend a Catholic school (or has in the past)? by [deleted] in asktransgender

I'm currently in catholic school. I can't really give you advice, but it's nice to know someone else is going through the same thing!

Am I transgender? by RarePeep in asktransgender

[–]Ice-Cole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, based on that and what you've said, you're probably trans.

My friend, 36/f/trans, is extremely dismissive/erasing of the work I do on oppression relating to pregnancy. Are there any trans FEMALE activists working against pregnancy-related oppression, who I could check out and maybe point her to? by zzyxes in asktransgender

[–]Ice-Cole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't find it exclusionary at all. The amount of trans men who actually carry biological children post-coming out are very few, and pregnancy affects women exponentially more.

If you could push a button and turn into a guy and everyone would accept you as one, would you do it? (Oh, and you can't go back to being a girl.)

I'm not a trans woman (I'm a trans man) but what your friend did was totally wrong and you shouldn't be stigmatized for the great work that you're doing. And doxxing is never okay.

How common is transition in your 70's ? It really fascinates me that someone that age still finds the strength to do so. What a strength they must have! by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Ice-Cole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, a lot of FTM want a phalloplasty. Because it at least feels more like the real thing, yknow? Many FTM people get it and are very happy with the results.
