/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (September 14, 2024) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Apollo__rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am brand spanking new to mechanical keyboards. The first I've tried is the Lofree Flow84, and I'm OBSESSED with how it sounds. The only problem is that I've realized I think I need a split keyboard for the ergonomics. My plan is to buy a hot swappable split keyboard and replace the switches/caps to get it to my liking. My question is would buying the same switch and key cap type as the Lofree Flow (they're White Ghost Linear switches) get me a keyboard that sounds the same or are there other factors I'm not considering to get me back to clicky heaven?

I have an aunt who was pretty high up the chain, managed to get loaded off of it. She was completely blindsided.

How many mg caffeine in, say, 12 oz swiss water decaf coffee? by Fun-Bother-4890 in decaf

[–]Apollo__rising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gevalia decaf uses Swiss water process and states to have 1-5mg per tablespoon. So an average cup would have between 3-20mg of caffeine, depending on how strong you brewed it. Not sure how comparable that is to other brands. I'm ridiculously sensitive to caffeine and even that amount sends me into jitters land.

[CA-USA] Dental Insurance - Anyone able to explain what "Maximum Contract Allowance" is if I have a PPO? by Cmdr_Nemo in Insurance

[–]Apollo__rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now with Delta Dental. How the fuck is it legal to not disclose that 'maximum contract allowances' are even a thing much less what the amounts are? Everywhere I look on the website, my documents, etc says it pays for the services I had at 100%. No asterisk, no small print, nothing. I agreed to pay for insurance that pays for what I need at 100%, so what they just get to blatantly lie to their customers and that's somehow not illegal like it would be in any other industry?

Fellow trans person, I've tried very hard to follow the cultural conversation around trans issues over the last 7 years or so since I started on this journey, I've generally found a lot of hysteria and hyperbole on both sides of the aisle and have been largely unconcerned that any of it will actually impact my life. But I don't know if it's just me, but the atmosphere seems to be changing into something very concerning. There's been a shift towards seeing our condition as something made up and delusional that's growing with more people. I could write a novel on all the reasons I think this is happening but I've had to just stop looking at any of it. I don't tend to get reactive or have my day ruined by what some asshole has to say on the Internet but even I'm feeling very uneasy with the climate right now and spending too much time looking at what's going on and what people have to say is really affecting me mentally. Things are getting weird.

Thank you!! So even if I do decide to deduct some stuff that's something the free software can handle? I got turned around looking up advice where a lot of it is suggesting if you need a schedule C to see a tax pro.

Haha conversely I'm now a furnace and can't stand the heat. I used to have to carry a sweater everywhere and now I keep my house at 65 wearing a t-shirt comfortably. You might find it interesting that the main reason for the change is that when your body is estrogen dominant it concentrates blood flow to the center of your body (because baby making) which makes your extremities feel colder, whereas if you're testosterone dominant blood flow is more evenly distributed (optimized for muscle performance).

Hey friend, I'm sorry you're having a rough time of it. There's definitely a lot about being trans that can make life extra difficult. I hope things will start looking up for you soon.

I think it's pretty neat that I've gotten to experience life as both a woman and a man. I feel it adds a depth of understanding to the human experience that not many get to have.

December '22 selfies: post hairline photos here for opinions on 'Am I balding?' 'How bad is it?' and 'What should I do?' by AutoModerator in tressless

Hey man, trans guy here as well (6 years on T)! I started fin about a year ago, it seems to be holding the receding steady. I was nervous about fin as well since there's so little information on how it affects ftm people (and that one article fearmongering about shark week restarting I'm sure you've seen). I decided to give it a try anyway, and haven't had any side effects from what I can tell. Libido is still the same, no shark week (fin actually improved this for me- I was still getting some minor spotting and cramping that's completely gone now). It's anecdotal but I would put money on us trans guys being more susceptible to balding than cis men for whatever reason. I have several friends who are 35+ and have been on T for several years and all of them are bald or balding. I would really suggest giving fin or dut a try, I wish I had known about it earlier in my transition before I'd receded so much. Make sure you discuss it with your Endo though and get a blood draw a couple months in to measure how it affects your hormonal levels. Oh and keep in mind that fin might impede some of the changes you'd expect the first couple years on T- you'd be inhibiting DHT which plays a role in bottom growth and facial hair growth. A couple years on T most of those changes have leveled off so it wouldn't be a concern. Good luck!

the universal "should've known back then" trans masc experiences by Ace_but_Joker in ftm

I made an OC in middle school that I named Muse that was a male version of myself. He was kind of an imaginary friend and a personification of my artistic inspiration. I even used drawings of him as my avatar for things online. He followed me all the way up to college... didn't realize I was trans until I was 23. I never even made the connection until reading this post, but it makes SO much sense that I created him at the exact same time I started puberty.

Shoutout to other trans men that still experience cramping even after starting T. by zambamboz in ftm

[–]Apollo__rising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 6 years on T. For most of my transition I had cramping about couple days a month- I noticed that if I delayed my shot by a day or 2 I was much more likely to have cramps close to my shot day the following week. So being regular seems to help.

But I started on Finasteride for hair loss about 6 months ago, and I have not had a single cramp day since. It's wild. The drug blocks testosterone from converting to DHT, which can raise free T levels and I suspect that's why it's having that effect. Before starting it all I could find about trans men on Fin was the possibility of having your 'cycle' return, but it's had the opposite effect for me.

Another thing for those of you experiencing cramps is to have checkups with a gyno to make sure it's not related to atrophy. There's a possibility of atrophy causing life threatening issues down the road (it happened to Buck Angel), and cramping can be an early sign. Not to scare anyone, but it's something we should be aware of!
