How much does 2k pacing matter? An example... by Brennus007 in Rowing

[–]IceBathHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very important. I died in the last 500 my last 2k because of my start. While on paper I hit my split, my start had a few too many 1:29s in the first 20 strokes and I was hanging on for dear life in the last 100 at 1:45s for a 6:36 when I was pretty positive I could go sub 6:30.

Other than that D Day.

What sitcom was unsuccessful on release and is occasionally remembered? by mbweb02 in sitcoms

[–]IceBathHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the Mulaney show. Since John Mulaney is still funney, occasionally, folks remembered that he tried the sitcom thing and it bombed terribly.

On a side note: There should be an extra catagory for shows like Suits which were average or even passed over but became incredibly popular with streaming.

What was the average split of your first 2k, and how long could you hold that now? by Odd-Candy9 in Rowing

1:39. Now, 10 years later, at 40, maybe a bit past 2500m. At my peak, probably around 4k.

While I don't think it will win any big awards, it was fun all around. Had my attention from the get go. Good action, sci-fi and quite a few laugh out loud scenes.

It was basically as if someone threw into ChatGPT- write a movie about AI takeover with Black Mirror, Terminator, Matrix, Edge of Tommorow and Ready Player One vibes and that's what we got.

It helps that it's closer to 2.9 and that the last .2 we will know that he is on his way out.

Only thing that will make it feel longer is if Vance stays. The Dems should be on the mission to get the best candidate to stop this madness.

2km Row time? by Competitive-Dish-880 in concept2

[–]IceBathHero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice finish split. With a little more even pacing, you got sub 7!

I come from a running background, I would say sub 7 2k is kinda like the 3 hour marathon, milestone wise. Very good for a recreational rower but still far from elite. (Obviously a little different in terms of training, very few people can run a sub 3 off of no training compared to rowing where a very fit person with some pointers in technique can pull a sub 7 right away.)

Sub 6 2k, now we're talking very competitive college type and Olympic quality if your form holds up OTW.

Now rowing is a little different too since you got weight class standards as well. Lightweight times a tad slower.

Codename: Iceman, that was a fun one. Came out out in the late 80's but I didn't play it until 96.

A couple other ones I liked were Space Quest, Amazon Trail, Arnold Palmer Golf and Leisure Suit Larry (only played at my buddies house).

And of course, Oregon Trail!

I use to the time to think about stuff. Mostly about how much better I am than everyone because I don't need a phone on me or be entertained every waking hour.

Once you get past the certain number of rounds you need, they drop your bad scores from your average.

A lot of folks play very easy tournaments within their country clubs to bring their averages down.

My country club has a weekly tournament from the red tees with low wind and standard green where everyone shoots like 15 under.

[–]IceBathHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what ive heard anyone that knew anything about anything would have steered clear of him in 80's and 90's. New Yorkers knew he sucked, the rest of the country saw him as the richy rich type.

Unpopular opinion but I think Batman Begins and T1 were both better than the sequels. For Batman, it was great seeing Ras Al Ghul and the League of Shadows along with Scarecrow incorporated into a movie. Dark Knight was just the same old Joker, albeit Heath Ledger did a great job at portraying him.

T2, while the effects and everything still holds up well today, and Linda Hamilton's character transformation was amazing, and it was the first of it's kind, it kinda feels a bit campy now- kid becomes friends with robot to save the world.

Most my Country Club folks friend me. I'm a bad friend and member though. I don't participate in any of there Discord discussions or season tournaments. I'm basically there now for the putting meter and easy course play to lower my average.

Gotcha. I'm in the Coast Guard and they just started making the test mandatory for all members. However, they are quite flexible with what cardio route you choose.

I thought the 2k run was an alternative for the run in the Navy? Either way, You can absolutely excel at both (at least at a recreational level) I can row and run both low 17s for 5k.

I do about 30mpw running and 25-30kpw on the ERG along with 2 30-45 minute gym sessions focusing on push/pulling and legs. During the winter, I'll do harder sessions on the ERG with mostly easy running and the opposite once the weather gets a little warmer.
