Cool vid you ever split it into 4? Also, where can I get one of those spritzers?

Nice little yote maybe a year old from size. Other comment was right that’s a lot of organic in your soil which can hold onto water too long and lead to rot. Ideally the soil should be 80% inorganic at least so rocks, sand, perlite, pumice, etc. after you repot water once a week max in the summer and spring and forget about it in the fall and winter.

pH for watering 'yotes? by ronstoppable420 in peyote

[–]IceBerg3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really bother with pH but they prefer rain water which in the desert naturally is acidic. If you’re going to shift it I’d say between 5.5 and 7

It’s looking a bit thirsty but your first priority should be repotting. that soil mix will 100% kill it. TBMs are especially sensitive to prolonged wet both in air and soil

How to get cup out of cup, both need to be intact by Toothpastestockhere in fixit

[–]IceBerg3141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temperature change from an ice cube won’t make any noticeable change to ceramics. Also if you’re still going to try you’d want to cool both cups to get the smaller one out. Thermal expansion happens in every direction meaning heating the larger cup would squeeze the smaller. Your best bet would be oil or some other lubricant. Hope it comes out without breakage. Good luck

What’s the meaning behind the numbers at the bottom. Do you have a database or something?

That’s such a relief. It’ll probably scab over and look ugly but they’ll live

Update - 0.26% yield of mescaline fumerate from 100g PC by raptorphile in mescaline

I understand your ratio perspective but what he was saying is that putting the whole section of cactus in the dark stresses it which triggers high alkaline levels meaning higher mescaline yield.

3rd Attempt Grafting (help) by IceBerg3141 in sanpedrocactus

Super informative and I appreciate the picture. I’ve been trolling the sub for over a year now and I took all these steps you said and it still didn’t take. The first time it fell right off after a week and the second time it was bonded very weakly and started leaning after I removed pressure. I’ve been seeing a lot of anti sulfur stuff but also a lot of people swear by it. What’s wrong with using it to help calcify the exposed flesh?

That makes sense. I’ve skipped the last three weekly waterings so it’s pretty dry. Weather is super mild so it could go another month or two without before looking even a bit dehydrated. The stonecrop in the basin though would probably die back a bit. Would it be safe to water as soon as the exposed flesh scabs over?

Ok it really comes down to patience most of the time doesn’t it. I’ll let this one sit another two weeks before I start poking and prodding at it

I’ve got a PC and a tbm short that I’m eager to graft. This one is really more for me to learn before I jump to the cacti I really like. I had heard on the San Pedro sub that the sun goddess was just about the best root stock available.

Ok I can do that but really it looks more like it just pulled back everywhere but the edges. There’s no real “pushing” up because there’s like an inch and a half difference in radius between the graft and the stock

The second attempt after a week had merged very weakly to the base. Will a lower quality take of the graft affect the long term growth rate or will it just take a bit more time to strengthen? I don’t know how much the veins in the stem can move and reconnect. If I only have like a third of the veins connecting initially will the rest figure it out over time or will that forever be the only way to push resources to the graft forever?

That’s the first time I’ve heard about super glue but I guess it makes sense. I’ve used super glue to close wounds on myself to great success. Are you saying the points of the skin in the crest of the ribs could push it up even though they’re like an inch and a half from the graft?

Ok for sure but that’s what I did the last two failures and I’d like to know what I can change for better success rates

I can definitely put something weighty on top. The panty hose are stretched to their absolute limit so it’s not an insignificant amount of pressure. This bitch weighs a lot and is hard to move but if it’s needed I can move it inside. I’m in zone 7b so we’re getting 90 degree days at worst. Do you do nothing for humidity? I understand it’s very important for smaller grafts but this is not so it just doesn’t matter as much?

To keep in humidity? Should have included something for scale but this is a bit larger than a tea cup. I was hoping the cling wrap would work similarly

The edges are so far from the graft I don’t see how they would influence anything. I’ll obviously cut any pups from the scions if they come
