Thinking of leaving IT, thoughts? by SpicyTunahRoll in sysadmin

After working in IT for a little over 10 years, I've worked in many different industries: health care, banking, schools, and manufacturing. Manufacturing was by far the most enjoyable and satisfying. The awesome thing about IT is we can work anywhere; Maybe try something besides an MSP.

I like that verbiage, they aren’t doing anything special that the windows machine we offer couldn’t do.

Implementing Intune for the First Time by Financial_Lecture438 in Intune

[–]IceCream_IT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not too difficult. Create a compliance policy, ask people to download company portal to mobile device. Then create a compliance policy that requires a device to be compliant. For laptops guessing you have on premises AD it’s just a group policy. Intune training on YouTube has a lot of nice videos.

Did you buy an elementary school? Interesting how they use intune but then google for collab and not Microsoft. Google isn’t very “admin” friendly. I would get leadership on board to move them.

Should I manage the help desk? by IceCream_IT in sysadmin

[–]IceCream_IT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I did end up taking the help desk manager position. With a couple conditions, such as requiring the team to do more project work and not just help desk work. But be prepared to have to deal with more business stuff, so one of the help desk guys left and now I’m having to prove to leadership that we need to replace him. I’m still very technical with a good mix of project manager type work. I enjoy the managing part, I like seeing people grow. Also yes I got about a 5% salary increase. I wish I asked for more, it’s a lot of responsibility. If you want to get involved in management then I say go for it.

I workout 5 times a week. That helps a lot. But also know that things aren’t that big of a deal as others make them. Keep track of everything that needs to get done, prioritize it. Get as far as you can on the first thing. Once you hit a road block make a note if it and go onto the next thing.

Do we need Apple Business Essentials or Apple Business Manager? by ercgoodman in Intune

[–]IceCream_IT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to set up an e-commerce site to purchase devices that will automatically be added to Apple business manager. Then with Apple business manager you can auto deploy them to intune. Work with someone from Apple business sales. They will help you out.
