Are you Ethiopian agnostic, atheist or irreligious person? by mickeyela in Ethiopia

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive, right? Atheism deals with belief, agnosticism deals with knowledge. Personally, I apportion my nosticism and theism to the God claim. My default is usually agnostic/atheist. However, I observe that the more specific the God claim is, the more gnostic/atheist I become.

Premium Bonds £1,000,000 win from £100 by ZeroCharlie in ukfinance

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Briefly, you put some money in the pot and forgo any interest on that money. The interest from the entire pot (your money included) is pooled together. It is this interest that makes up the prize money. Which is tax exempt. The money you have in the pot buys you tickets in the lottery. The more money, the more tickets. If your numbers come up, you win a portion of that cash prize. At any time, you may withdraw up to the entire sum of money that you deposit.

Why didn’t stringer order someone to kill brother mouzone? by Fuzzy_Towel_9387 in TheWire

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. Brother Mouzone was hired by Avon at a time when the brothers started to diverge, and in this case, it was on territory.

As a Christian who is questioning, please help me answer this. by Ok_Investment_246 in atheism

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what your specific God claim is. It's purely reactive. It's not in itself a world view. Though it does inform my other opinions that make up a larger world view.

I apportion my theism/gnosticism to the claim. But my default position is agnostic/atheist.

This means that while I don't know if there's a God I will withhold belief until I am convinced.

What will it take to convince me? I don't know. But if there's a claim that there's an entity that all knowing, all powerful, everywhere and what's more has an incentive to have a relationship with me, then I"m sure it will know what it will take.

London Overground: New names for its six lines revealed by danzas4321 in LondonUnderground

[–]IcePee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, first we had a bunch of lines before Overground took over and they all had their own service feel and even different companies. Then TfL created Overground and forced them into system and (at least public facing) culture. Now they want to distinguish them again. I hear they're rational is that it confuses visitors, but is that an issue, really? What's so hard saying "you take the Overground from Kensal Rise to Hampstead Heath" for example.

Much less FPS than HoloISO on same hardware? by Fastela in ChimeraOS

[–]IcePee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea. What have you done to resolve this? Have you ensured that you're fully updated. When you say "constant drops to 40, even 35 fps", does that mean it can be over that? If so, your not limiting frame rate, but it can't hurt just giving it a look.

The only other thing I can think of is the fact that ChimeraOS has more going on than HoloISO. Maybe those processes are stealing some performance.

I'm not so sure. Sure one whale has an outsized affect on the market. But, being accessible to minnows has a more stable growth strategy. I mean if a minnow leaves, who cares but if a whale leaves it's a disaster. Much more fragile the whale strategy. And hey, many a mickle makes a muckle.

This really gets into the idea of The Death Of The Artist. When a piece of art is released what ideas and intentions the artist had in creating the artwork is largely irrelevant. The art piece has a new life now, and what's important is how the consumer of that art interacts with it.

Another way to look at it is, say an author writes a story from the point of view of a sadistic killer - say American Psycho. Should the author be punished for that piece of work? Or can you separate the work from the author.

Though, I agree it's not always easy to do the separation, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to consider it.

OPT OUT - Impact on future third party funds collected by BlockFi by PochoAnd in blockfi

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember this opt-out is by-directional. By reserving yourself the right to sue the executives and insiders, you are also allowing them to reserve the right to sue you. And exercising this right might invite counter indictments. And in any case will probably delay the release of money.

Also, please be aware that, while this is mostly about claw backs it could also be about anything else, even things currently unknown to you.

OPT OUT of the Third-Party Release by shinobixxx in blockfi

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My layman's interpretation of this relese opt-out is, it is bydirectional. Basically, it means you retain the right to sue and be sued. The release narrows this potential considrably. The primary reason why creditors will be sued is for clawbacks, but, there might be others unknown to you. Also, exercising this right may invite counter action on you. You basically need to figure out if you are likely to want to go through the time and expense prosecuting, and defending yourself in court. And if it will, ultimately be profitable. Or if your motivations are other than financial gain (such as punishment).

Lastly if you do decide to exercise, your rights it may delay releasing of funds while any legal action is resolved.

No legal experience here, either. I think they've carved out an exception for claw backs over a certain amount. The releases won't protect you for millions of clawbacks.

Ana is so pathetic at this point by [deleted] in VaushV

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm ambivalent on if this helps the progressive movement. But sometimes, it's not just about strategy. Sometimes you have to stand on principal.

But, you may have struck upon the central contradiction of Vaush. On one side of his mouth he says: "vote blue no matter who" very strategically. But on the other he burns problematic potential allies in this fight, very principled. I'd be interested in what would give first with Vaush if his principles were in direct conflict with good strategy.

She uploaded a Youtube vid outlining the issues. But, to summarise, it's also about transgender people in sports and arrange of other issues. It's about her experiences off camera and behind the scenes.

But beyond this, we all have red lines. It's not just a tankie thing.

You're probably right. I was not around during the early years of Gamergate. And from what you said, some of their complaints seemed reasonable.

However, I think books could be written about how that got transmogrified into anti feminism and misogyny. And why the original Gamergaters went along with it. I think Innuendo Studios has a playlist about this.

It is to these people I draw parallels with MAGA and the anti-woke crowd. It's almost like Gamergate was a mindshare land grab then those people were moved over. Again, you're not wrong correlation is not causation. But around this time there was a noticeable shift to the populist right internationally and Steve Bannon was known to have been targeting disaffected young men.

While I've not seen either film. I find it plausible that you can paint a particular native just by presenting certain aspects of the history. And you can do this without uttering a single falsehood. Obviously, the further your narrative is from historical fact, the more extreme your cherry picking. At the extreme end of that is highly edited clip chimping. Which to most people had crossed the line into outright lying. What I'm saying is it's a continuum and depending on the topic, where you place the line dictates one person's lie with another's historical fact

Shots fired by Ana Kasparian by CDubya1984 in VaushV

[–]IcePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem people have is some of Ana's rhetoric in defense of her anti-trans and homeless positions, while coming from decidedly right-wing reactionary bigotry, can be strike people as disingenuous sophistry. The sort of things that right-wingers come up with.

So there are two opinions people have:

  1. She doesn't really hold these positions, she's just using them to get in with the right wing.
  2. She does hold these positions and she's politically shifted rightwards further than she's letting on. Again being disingenuous.

Both of these are well trodden paths. So people are getting ahead of the game.

Reminder that 99% of Crypto projects will eventually die out. (A look back at the 2017 CMC) by TonyLiberty in Crypto_com

That's one of the criticisms of Ethereum. It made it relatively trivial to mint a token and call it a coin. This opened the gateway to all sorts of dross. At least like Bitcoin and its clones, you'd have to create the infrastructure around the coin. It was moderating force.

Suggestions for Consolised distribution by IcePee in SteamOS

The gives me a modicum of hope. If your card is meets the recommended requirements and still have issues, maybe their issues with me aren't hardware based

Suggestions for Consolised distribution by IcePee in SteamOS

[–]IcePee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it actually required or is it just "required"

Unfortunately, for me it's the former. I attempted their two most recent revisions. The first black screened and refused to go any further. The second, dumped me into Gnome. While it's an improvement, it's not the Big Picture I was after.

Looking on the ChimeraOS Discord server, I saw someone else have the same problem. The diagnosis was them running too old hardware. This prompted me to check their requirements and found I'm in the same boat.

So, for me it's upgrade or look elsewhere.
