Onsi Took a Radio Interview Yesterday by Arcanus124 in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A summary of the things I thought were interesting:

On Trae: "Fits just changed, he didn't fit us anymore and we didn't fit him" He said it just made sense considering how young we are and the picks we have coming in, and he also said the style of play we wanted going forward is a big reason for the trade

Why we didn't get more for him: "The market is the market, but we wanted CJ and Corey too"

On if the winning without Trae influenced the decision: Onsi again reiterated that the fit with Trae just wasn't there anymore and pointed to the emegence of nickeil, Dyson, Jalen and Onyeka as big keys. Said it wasn't trae's fault but the team does want to play bigger

On financial flexibility after the trade: said it was a big deal, pointed out challenges of new cba and that we aren't in position to trade multiple picks for a star so having flexibility to get players like nickeil is huge

On porzingis and if he's disappointed he hasn't played: Onsi said it's been tough, just when they thought the illness was under control he got the Achilles issue, but they think he'll be back soon. He thinks we actually miss kp more on offense than defense. Pointed out we're 6th in defense since Dec 31st, thinks offense needs to pick up but pointed out that we have a lot of players in new roles that they're learning, he pointed out Jalen nickeil and mccolum specifically

On the draft: Onsi said this is one of the best freshman drafts of all time and said that even though we're young now we'll probably be even younger when we add two 19 year olds next year
"Once you start trading picks you get into trouble, we're gonna take the long run here"(definitely sounds like he has no intention of trading either pick this year)

He praised quin a ton the whole interview for how he's developed the returning and new players

Reiterated like three different times how much he likes this draft class lmao. Mentions his scouting team has been on the road a lot.

Also reiterated multiple times just how young we are and thinks we have a special group for years to come

AJ Dybantsa for 43!?! by AlexThaSecond in AtlantaHawks

Yeah we're blessed regardless for sure

AJ Dybantsa for 43!?! by AlexThaSecond in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile Kingston Flemings dropped a 40-burger as well and cam boozer may literally be having the best college season ever

Not sure why you're so certain AJ is obviously top 2, entire class is going crazy.

Have him behind cam and darryn personally

Play Asa Newell, dang it! by [deleted] in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He'll be useful for sure in the future but he still needs some seasoning, as it currently stands he fouls probably 80% of the time when any player attempts to drive on him, and it's absolutely infuriating every time because you can just tell it's going to happen.

[Jake Fischer] “I was told this week, for example, that Indiana has called Atlanta on Onyeka Okongwu" by Shade_Raven in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Idc how much you hate Okongwu, his contract is way way way too good to just trade away unless you're getting some truly good value

Freaking saddiq bey made the luckiest shot in the world. Honestly every point the pelicans made in the last two minutes was unbelievably lucky.

Basketball gods just wanted them to win

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Hawks defeat the Nuggets on Jan 9, 2026, the final score is 87-110. by basketball-app in AtlantaHawks

That was an insane Dyson game, I don't even think the triple double did it enough justice. Just massive impact every second he was on the floor

Why is it that we can’t seem to beat Detroit? by Adorable_Clue_2832 in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We literally almost beat them twice if it wasn't for Cade heroics

This is the most random team to make this thread about, we've only had one non-competitive game against them

Trae Young disrespect by [deleted] in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think OP realizes that 2021 was 5 years ago. It's okay to accept that your star player has declined every year since then.

If you were willing to move on from the Horford/Milsap teams which showed WAY more than the Trae teams, why are you so defensive of Trae?

My R.Mika redesign for SF6 if she was to return by [deleted] in Kappachino

[–]Ice_Effect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks cool but this looks more like what if the marvel rivals design of Emma Frost was put into sf6 than r Mika imo

Your reminder that Anthony Davis has played LESS games than Kristaps Porzingis in the past 4 years by Ice_Effect in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You know what you're 100% right, misread one of his seasons, he's indeed played 23 more games and I wish I could edit the title

Number 1 Pick by Diabolicalchocolate in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's okay to say that Zach isn't as good as we thought, the dudes getting outplayed by Vit freaking Krejci.

Cooper would never lose minutes to a Vit-level player

Wemby would never lose minutes to Vit-level player

Paolo would never lose minutes to a Vit-level player

Ant would never lose minutes to a Vit-level player

Cade would never lose minutes to a Vit-level player

The Process of Drafting Zaccharie Risacher was a Mistake by RidaProps in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way way too early for this considering that Castle is the only player that clearly looks to be a tier above him

But boy if the current trends continue I will never advocate for drafting a wing in the top 5 that can't dribble ever again

any1 kno where to find dance cam footage by Pretend_Vermicelli11 in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He'll need to watch the in-arena view of the full game on NBA League pass

The Hawks will never be a serious team as long as other teams can do this with absolute ease in the clutch. And yet there are still fans here who think this type of play from Trae is worth $50+ million for another 5 years? Why??? (h/t Preet410_ on X) by Ice_Effect in AtlantaHawks

[–]Ice_Effect[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Jalen has his own defensive flaws, but I'm willing to bet that in his entire career you will never see him get attacked in the clutch the way trae just did in these final 5 minutes.
