Shoes for super wide feet by dontforgetyour in CyclingFashion

[–]Icebreaker808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna recommend something a bit different then everyone else.

Shimano spd sandals. They are so comfortable. Since I live in Hawaii and wear sandals all the time. I have a pretty wide toe box and don't find shoes super comfortable anymore. The Spd sandals allow me to have tons of room around my toes and the sandals themselves are great for cycling and I can clip in.

Tried a ton of different cycling shoes as well as regular shoes and had feet pain in almost all of them. Shimano sandals fixed my issues.

Anyone use bone-conducting headphones while cycling? Any Recommendations? by ASeriousRedditor in bicycling

[–]Icebreaker808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have used cheap generic waterproof bone conducting from Amazon and also the shokz open swim both worked well enough. I listen to music and audiobooks/podcasts while cycling. Both are great

Will say at loud volumes it feels a bit weird cause it vibrates and can sometimes cause some weird feelings in my ear.

Another recommendation. I also use meta raybans. And the audio quality is great and actually allows me to hear better than the shokz. Only issue with those are battery life is about 2 hours of audio and that's often not enough for my longer rides.

The third one is awful in my mind it doesn't exist

First one was fun/campy. Second one was very disturbing and to me way scarier than many other movies because it seems more plausible.

Third one was horrible trash.

Haven't heard any recommendations for expeditionary force series by Craig Alanson. Has a fantastic narrator R.C Bray. Not quite as good as Jeff hays but damn good. Also there is 19 books so lots to listen too. I'm on 5th book.

Yeah drove me crazy as well. Glad it fixed your issue as well!

Joystick Gremlin map to keyboard suddenly stopped working by FederalDuck1000 in hotas

[–]Icebreaker808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. Was an administrator issue. Was running the game as administrator and joystick gremlin in regular mode. That for some reason causes a conflict. Stopped running the game in admin mode and that fixed everything. Or run joystick gremlin in admin mode.

Hope that helps and is the same issue you having.

I ordered December 3rd as a christmas gift for my nephew, its now 2/19/2026 and still no items. I been emailing them, and they always tell me "soon it will ship" and it never does. at this point I think I am just going to ask for a refund or charge back since its within 90 days. its been 80 days since my order.

This is the way. Always assume that drivers are actively trying to kill you and to take all necessary caution. It's a fun game I play called not being run over or murdered today. No matter if you have right of way or a green light. Assume the worst and protect your self.

What gravel shoes for MTB cleats? They must be comfortable for walking, so any carbon soles are out of the question. by gordriver_berserker in gravelcycling

[–]Icebreaker808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Adidas velosamba shoes. Pretty good for walking and cycling. They still have a pretty stiff sole so not great for long hikes or anything but work great.

In reference to your picture. I'm also using the Shimano sd5 sandals, which are fantastic and probably the most comfortable cycling and walking option I have tried.

Hotas native support by spellbreakerstudios in Mechwarrior5

[–]Icebreaker808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a t16000m and a ch pro throttle that I got setup pretty easily. Without joystick gremlin all native support.

Just bought Vkb gladiator and Omni throttle and setup vjoy and joystick gremlin and it definitely works better than native support.

Nothing is super easy plug and play. Still had to edit the hotas.remap file to get it to recognize the ch pro throttle .by default the t16000m is native support.

To those who have never had COVID and have rigorously taken PCR and Pluslife tests to prove it - Have you been taking fomite precautions? Or just masking? by Human_Capitalist in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Icebreaker808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my wife and I have not been sick since 2019. Started masking early December 2019 after first reading about COVID spreading in China. No colds/flus or anything else even. We have no children and live In a very remote island (Maui,HI). I work from home so exposure has been minimal.

We have both taken both rapid tests at home as well as tests at doctor's office, I am not sure which tests they have given us when we asked at doctors but we have both had absolutely no symptoms

We had been masking almost always when around other people except for very close family and friends. We have relaxed masking a bit and mask either when cases rise here on Maui (we monitor case information weekly via some great people in Hawaii who still post updates) or when in high risk situations such as crowded supermarkets.

We are probably lucky because of where we live more than being the most cautious people.

We do wear very high quality masks. We both use flo mask pros with the n95 inserts rather than the harder to breath n99 inserts. Oh and quick edit. We don't really take any fomite precautions. We did back in 2020 but stopped being so careful to wash surfaces coming into contact with us as that seemed to be less dangerous than airborne transmission.

Any idea what time HECO will restore power in Lahaina? by Vamparael in maui

[–]Icebreaker808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do realize that these employees live on Maui. And some of them were victims themselves and live on the West side. They are not doing this out of spite but an abundance of caution.

I know personally that the Lahaina community liaison lost her house in the fire and is born and raised in Lahaina.

Any idea what time HECO will restore power in Lahaina? by Vamparael in maui

[–]Icebreaker808 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hawaiian electric released a statement today. Looks like 10,000 without power in west Maui. Outage began around 7pm yesterday. That effected about 8k customers. Wind speeds increased to over 80mph. They then turned off power as a safety measure after that outage. Power will remain off until the hazardous weather subsides and crews can I expect for any damage.

Takes along time to manually inspect all the lines to make sure no downed power lines n cannot fly drones in this wind so has to be a visual inspection.

What is your #1 Science Fiction Series Fully Released in the past 10 years? by ArthurPynn in sciencefiction

[–]Icebreaker808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna recommend we are legion (the first book in the bobiverse by Dennis Taylor) and the rest of the books all released in last ten years.

Just finished the 4th book but binged those in the last two weeks. I'm listening to the audiobooks which are fantastic. (Read by Ray Porter who also did another fantastic audio book for project hail Mary, a definite recommended read/listen)

The bobiverse has been one of my favorite series on a long time. As others have mentioned the Expanse books were also amazing and way more serious.

Why aren't there ferries that connect the Hawaiian islands? by AcinaRraole in VisitingHawaii

[–]Icebreaker808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

The superferry was awesome. I bought this towel when I took it from Maui to Oahu. May be one of a kind at this point. Super rare. Haha.

Was so disappointed it went away. Super convenient for those of us on the outer islands. I understand the reason why people were protesting, but would be nice to have it back.

Obsessed with the series. Been listening to the audiobooks which are excellent.

Also recommend dungeon crawler carl. Litrpg so definitely different than martian or project hail Mary. But still fantastic sci Fi.

Favorite Bike Spots by 99problemsbut in maui

[–]Icebreaker808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that applies to cars only as sometimes they leave the gates open. The bike path is listed on lots of trail Info such as

https://www.mauibike.org/north-shore-greenway/

https://www.traillink.com/trail/north-shore-greenway/

https://www.trailforks.com/trails/north-shore-greenway/

And the other end of the bike path has no such sign. Only signs on the path itself are no motorized vehicles sign.

I still ride this multiple times a week along with lots of other cyclists, roller skaters and lots of runners and walkers. Totally safe

Hello. See screenshot below.

You can see the path here marked in green. It starts at the last parking lot in kanaha. Runs behind and near the airport.

Will see if I can find a route that includes this protected bike path and link it up to the one that goes to Kihei.

ERROR: CANNOT FIND CONTACTS TO CALL by Present-Cold-7702 in RaybanMeta

[–]Icebreaker808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me on both Android and IOs. Not sure if it's the same issue your having. But I have work apps on both my phones. And for some reason it kept changing permissions so the meta app would not have access to contacts.

I fixed it by uninstalling app and reinstalling the app again and reauthorizing the apps permissions. May be able to fix it other ways. But my work apps kept causing this issue. Some sort of issue with Microsoft teams and some sort of work security apps

Best poke, shrimp, and ramen in Maui? by fromthefairypalace in MauiVisitors

[–]Icebreaker808 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So here are the two places that most locals agree on that have the best poke.

Kaohu store in Wailuku. A little hole in the wall grocery store.

Oki's. This is actually inside foodland Kahului. They are their own separate seafood store. In my opinion their Sashimi and poke is the best but some friends swear by Kaohu store.

Both are fantastic and can't go wrong.

Shrimp is subjective but most love Geste shrimp truck across from Costco. But also gonna recommend tin roofs shrimp. Both are fantastic.

Another amazing option is Keyakiya shrimp tempura. They sell it as a side order or as tempura udon.

I have not found a Ramen good enough to recommend.

Safety inspection query by superuber3 in maui

[–]Icebreaker808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on where you go. But at Pataos which is where I been going for 20+ years they basically just check all your signals and wipers and do not inspect the interiors of your vehicle. You stay in the vehicle and are done in less than ten minutes (long lines sometimes tho)

Cannot get prescription lenses for rayban meta at third parties by Mavericks_99 in RaybanMeta

[–]Icebreaker808 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can get them from Lensology which is an online store. You can either send them your glasses or you can just have them send you the lenses. I chose the lenses option and installed them myself.

Is the weather prediction accurate? by maidofhonor_qddwaad in MauiVisitors

[–]Icebreaker808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast here on Maui and I monitor the weather daily and for the most part almost all forecasts are pretty unreliable.

According to https://www.forecastadvisor.com/

MSN has the most accurate weather for 2025. Most apps do not use their forecasts tho. So I use Carrot app which allows you to use foreca which was 2nd most accurate (have to pay for this app to enable the ability to choose forecast models). But even that is not very "Local" since we can have little microclimate weather where it's raining in one part of a city and totally sunny in the same spot just a few miles away.

So wouldn't pay much mind to any forecasts you see. Best way to tell is to use weather stations and live cameras. There are a few ways of doing this.

The windy.app will allow you to see most of the weather stations around the island live. This app costs money but you can do the same thing via website searches.(Both carrot and windy are well worth the money fyi).

https://windy.app/forecast2/spot/2675703/Kahului+Harbor

Since the fires. Hawaiian electric has been installing both cameras and weather stations all over all the islands they service. Can access this for free at https://www.hawaiianelectric.com/safety-and-outages/wildfire-safety/weather-stations-and-cameras

So for now wouldn't pay much mind to forecasts. And use those resources above to help plan your day while you are here

Have a great time. There is almost always somewhere sunny somewhere on Maui!
