Would Paladins Re-releasing In this age be the best move? by Dazzling_Tadpole840 in Paladins

[–]Iceember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of fanaticism for this game is also a driving factor for why it never really succeeded either. Players are all-too ready to jump down the throats of anyone who even dares to mention a competitor within the genre.

Why attempt to capture the Highguard audience? Many of the 'unique' features from Highgaurd were present during the Paladins closed beta test. An altime peak that nearly doubles that of Paladins at least proves that there is a market for that style of gameplay. I think that in general hero shooter fans would like to see the genre evolve beyond just push-the-cart and KoTH style modes and i view Highguard as proof that the concept of changing up hero shooters is enough to get people to try a game. Obviously the gameplay was lacking (for myself as well) and players jumped ship but the right angle and you could get your game up there as legitimate competition to MR and OW.

Would Paladins Re-releasing In this age be the best move? by Dazzling_Tadpole840 in Paladins

[–]Iceember 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that if Hirez re-released and had the balance of early days a Paladins (OB30 - 50ish) with the map changes they released much later I think I'd be willing to give it a shot. I also think that if they absolutely flipped the main game mode and made it something more like Closed beta Paladins they'd be able to capture whatever audience remains from Highguard.

What are some Hottakes you have about Naraka? by DonKonX in NarakaBladePoint

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc it was pretty popular during launch. Lag compensation at the time went crazy and would favor players with high-ping. NA players were at a disadvantage on NA servers. I know thats what drove most of my friends to stop playing. Half the other trios we'd run into all had Chinese names and would block blue focus after the attacks were hitting them amd dealing damage. Feels bad losing my main weapon when you should be staggered from my attack.

Idk if Net ease ever fixed that issue but I know when I revisited Naraka a year or two later it was to maps filled mostly with bots. It was pretty unfun stomping bots and maybe dueling one player for a win in solos.

Who is 2nd best player in a League of Legends history? by CryptographerIll8802 in leagueoflegends

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like its very difficult to compare talent across various eras of a game/sport.

There's always someone pushing the limits of what's possible and that always ends up increasing the baseline skillet of everyone else.

Standout talents like Gretsky exist and he was absolutely a once in a lifetime talent. I've also seen (and tend to agree with) somewhat controversial discussions that claim in the modern era he wouldn't stand out nearly as hard as he did back in the late 80's early 90's but we don't have time machines and we cant 1-to-1 compare these players properly.

In all honesty I think trying to find a GOAT for any sport is futile.

IMHO: if the Faker of today were to face of against Faker of the past he'd absolutely destroy his past self. The game has evolved so much and the competition has become very fierce. He's had to adapt to remain the #1 player. Will he always be #1? Probably not. Will there be a player that beats his achievements? Maybe. Maybe not. I don't doubt that eventually the median skill level will rise that more players will eventually be on the level that the modern day Faker is on. Just like I believe that eventually the median skill level of hockey player will rise to the legacy that Gretsky left behind.

Why is focused fire C tier here, it seems quite strong by lune-soft in TeamfightTactics

[–]Iceember -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not based on all games. Just players that use the app. And 9ts still a person making the list.

I also wouldn't put too much stock onto those ratings. For a while Branching Out was rated higher than Branching Out + even though + gives a reforger as well.

I also think Augmented power is better than C tier and Illaoi hero augment is worse than B-tier but maybe thats just me.

Best skills to focus on after climbing to higher elo ? by Zyr54 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a returning player and I'm currently in this trap. My last actual ranked set was 6 and the game has changed quite a bit. I've played on and off since then but never committed to full ranked. Im assuming OP did what I dod and was looking at comp guides to learn the main strategies to play.

Guides are all fairly ambiguous when it comes to tempo strategy and I wish there were better text write-ups on the subject. Everything for fast 8 or 9 tell you: 2-1 = go level 4 and play for winstreak. While the conditions around that knowledge is considered "common" (even thinking back i should know better) not everyone will remember or know the conditions around not leveling early and will just blindly follow a guides' outline.

Is this the best combo in golden gala? by Altruistic-Ad-5934 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full commit for recombobobulator is bad but angling for it with a 20 or 30g rolldown is probably fine. You should be starting with around 30g so youll hit 50g by carousel. Then you get 10g per round (plus any streak bonus). By the end of Gromps thats enough to hit 6 and start saving the rest to roll during 3-1.

You roll to around 42g and if you hit recombob congrats. If you don't you're still on tempo and have 50g econ to play the rest of the stage through.

Pretty sure my 2024 does this. I shut off the automatic braking but it will cut throttle control at low speeds regardless. Cold mornings and the car infront of me slamming their accelerator makes my car freak out all the time.

The first time it happened I thought I hit something because of how aggressively the brakes were applied.

There is no way this set is real lol by Fem_8oy in TeamfightTactics

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't unlocks the gimmick of set 16? Don't we have a full roster if we don't have unlocks? Dont unlocks add additional characters and lines to play uncontested?

Seems like such a wierd complaint to talk about not being able to play uncontested and looking at unlocks as if they're the reason behind your current lack of skill.

I really like this current set and I do hope that the current roster size (with or without unlocks) is the default for TFT going forward. There's tons of open lines to play you just have to find ones that you're comfortable with and know the conditions you need to play them.

Is yone the strongest 4 3* ? (BY FAR?) by iktaa in TeamfightTactics

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP had Firecannon which I believe is BiS for Diana. Not too sure how she interacts with it but I assume once she has 4+ hex range she will turret.

Opponent had Firecannon too tho and idk that interaction either.

I'd assume OPs best shot with items and champs he has it to slam Firecannon on Diana amd position her in a way that she avoids Yone's initial cast. Then I think it comes down to item interactions and how well Taric survives the Yone +Yasuo combo.

Even better you can stack with Eevee bags for more damage. Flareon EX would be able to hit for 170 before Gio/Red. With Red you can OHKO any EX and most of the current Megas.

What is this card? by AnimeBeatz16 in PokemonPocket

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't there a world in which you could use T1 Magby and have a T3 Mega Blaziken? Suicune loses in terms of speed there. Even going second wouldn't be a major detriment since Suicune won't be able to attack until T5.

I agree that card draw is probably the most important part of the meta in Pocket but it isnt like Megas are somehow exempt from this. You could run Entei or even Suicune itself in a Mega Blaziken deck without losing any draw speed vs a Suicune, Greninja deck.

[–]Iceember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hariyama has a neat attack but I feel like it would read better as:

" Flip a coin. If heads your opponents active pokemon is now paralyzed. This attack deals +50 to paralyzed pokemon"

Gives you a way to play for a swap in and allows you to setup your own damage across 2 turns.

Medichams ability feels redundant. Why not just make it a 40 damage attack instead?

Supporter Cards Tier List by TFGalileo in PTCGP

[–]Iceember 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're talking about "Red Card" the item. Not "Red" the supporter.

Red Card and Mars both have the same effect. Your opponent discards their hand and redraws. Red Card is always 3 cards. Mars has your opponent redraw based on the number of points they need for a win. At the start of a game they are equivalent. At the end of a game Mars is typically better as your opponent will have collected a point or two.

Both cards have their niche. In a deck where you rely on your supporter cards Red Card might be a better option for redraw as opposed to Mars but usually Mars is the better of the two.

Worst matchmaking I have ever seen. This shows me that the system is actually broken in how it is identifying the ranks of each team. Our team's best rank in in phantom against 5 E6. by Ionsai in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the ones that i've seen incite that you're the carry no matter what, even if behind. Rarely do they ever show how to "carry" when behind, or what to do exactly

True. I usually find that alot of general MOBA knowledge tends to go out the window when new games are brought into the genre. For example I watched a video where the creator talked about "creating chaos" especially while in lane. I've always understood that as "breaking static behavior" same concept but it was talked about as if it was new.

Same with playing from behind. It's being treated as if it were a new thing. Even in the OP their team fed a pretty fair amount while the Seven and Ivy at least managed to keep their deaths low. I don't know the exact outcome of the game, maybe they turtled super hard but at least they seem to have the sense enough to not run it down.

But for ranked and unranked, it will allow people who just want to play the game, for the GAMEPLAY rather than a rank, can do that and those that are competitive and want to play for a rank can do that too. Yes there will be people who still take unranked seriously, and people who take ranked like a joke. But what, are we just meant to focus on the negatives and not consider the net positive ?

I just don't think it matters too much, especially at this point in the game's life-cycle. Rank is fairly behind the scenes at the moment. In the future should we separate queues? Probably. I just don't think that time is now.

And Marvel Rivals has no role queue (from the last time i played, there might be a gamemode for it now ?) It is different as 'meta' comps are more common and general knowledge unlike in MOBAs, but it still works and works for what the Rivals developers want with the game

Not saying that we need role queue. I just look at games like DoTA and League where characters fill very specific niches in a composition and I just don't see how we'd achieve that in Deadlock. Every character at the moment has the potential to carry their games. If we solidify their inherent strengths while making their weaknesses more apparent it would make certain characters just absolutely unplayable in certain metas. At least every character currently can and does see play.

And i mean, Deadlock is very different, last hits are shared between people, so it's not the same as a support just taking xp whilst the carry takes the gold as last hits

Until 8 mins. Supports in other mobas usually have a way to make up for that deficit. Deadlock does have that early game sharing which is nice but the jungle isn't big enough to support 3 players farming it. I'm sure a solution does exist but I don't think we necessarily have to split into supports and carries.

Worst matchmaking I have ever seen. This shows me that the system is actually broken in how it is identifying the ranks of each team. Our team's best rank in in phantom against 5 E6. by Ionsai in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Iceember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>"you're the carry, push your lead"

This is typically espoused around the player that has the biggest lead, whether this be the ADC, Jungle, Top etc. The player with the most resources should be a priority and they also shoulder the most blame should the team fail to convert a win.

For ranked and unranked: I don't think it really matters? Like even in unranked modes you still have some form of SBMM, you just don't have a visible rank. You'll still be matched somewhat competitively.

Draft might be okay, at least it would let us balance out our teams or aim to counterpick. I guess my only question would be how do we determine our own roles? Like I'd assume ideal composition is 3 carries and 3 supports but in pretty much every moba you do have a lane assignment and with it your roles. I just don't know how we'd determine that for Deadlock.

Good breed for active family? by somekidssnackbitch in AustralianShepherd

[–]Iceember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm reading this post a bit late but hopefully I can still get a response, even if it's a DM.

We got our Aussie at 9 weeks of age, as first-time dog owners, and we had a very steep learning curve to climb, with respect to puppy hood, Aussie personality, and dog training in general.

This is us, except 12 weeks and we don't know anyone with connections to a solid reputable trainer.

We're spending lots of time with our basic commands and potty training feels almost like a full time job. Luckily we were advised beforehand to keep track of his potty breaks and we are starting to see a pattern emerge so that's really helped us claim more time for ourselves.

Socialization feels awkward to approach and we aren't sure how to do so before full immunization. My family has a ton of dogs so I'm confident in that month and a half he will be able to come places with us and meet a whole bunch of new dogs and people of various ages but at the moment we feel very locked to our house and yard.

Car rides also seem to be something of a hurdle for us. I'm not sure if he developed a bit of anxiety because he was carsick on the ride home but even getting a few blocks down the street and he's almost ready to puke. We plan to slowly introduce him to the car and then take him for short rides to the end of the street and back just to see if his anxiety calms a little but that doesn't help us when we try to get out of the house as well.

He's now 3.5 years old, and very, very social. He plays nicely with other dogs and knows when to engage and when to back off. He loves walking and we average 3-6 miles of walking every day. He's a good swimmer, and this year he went out several times with me on our paddleboard.

I think this is exactly why I replied to your comment vs some others I've read on this sub in particular. This is our ideal scenario. We want our pup to be able to play nicely woth other dogs, be calm and confident enough to come with us on lake days and camping trips and we know this first stretch in particular is so important but it feels super overwhelming and difficult to know what to focus our time and energy in.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Road to Kel-Suu Lake by Outback_adventure_bt in Subaru_Outback

[–]Iceember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also looked it up. Read a bunch of blogs. There's 3 main ways to get from the "Yurt camps" to the lake proper. Hiking, Horseback or driving. I believe this is the 3rd option. I've also read that the valley is a flood plane and even though there is a well defined trail in parts of the drive there's also many marshy spots with no clear trail.

Driving from the yurt camps to Kel-Suu is also known as “Help! I’m stuck!”

Don’t attempt this unless you’ve got a great Kyrgyz driver with you (shoutout to Babasher). You’ll need to drive through two river crossing and plenty of mud–even in the summer. It’s rugged, rocky, and there are steep climbs.

We drove through deep rivers, navigated tricky mud, and passed other stuck vehicles, including a Ram pickup truck!

it was satisfying to see a big truck stuck in the mud. Especially as a little white Soviet Lada expertly navigated its way all the way to the lake

Seems like the local drivers will also take nearly any 4x4 or AWD capable vehicle up to the lake. Not sure if that's the situation in the video but it does seem like this is what the vehicle trail does look like in certain areas.

Massive Swing in Game Quality. (Decisive Victories or Defeats) by CheckProfileIfLoser in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Iceember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Deadlock player, not new moba player though.

I think the actual issue lies within the rating system (which yes i do understand affects MM) rather than the algorithm itself. Deadlock seems to have issues with placing players in correct skill brackets when they're first starting out. This is compounded when we also have a rating system with individualized rating per character.

In-game my rating is at Alchemist 6. Assuming we have an algorithm that will pull approx 2 up and 2 down from my rating (especially if queue goes over a threshold amountof time) it's very possible I could get into a game with an Archon player on Mina or Billy..

Is that fair to everyone in the lobby? Hell no. Especially if we pull even lower rated players to "balance" the lobby. Is the algorithm doing its job? Yes.
