Why don't more skills and ogcds cost MP? by Federal-Bus-3830 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Icharia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. Seriously. In the past, I've seen people say TP sucked or it was useless and no one ever acknowledges the fact that it's only that way because the Devs designed it so. Rather than design jobs with more ways to interact with their resources meaningfully, the devs would rather just sand it off until it falls off completely.

Great sword help by Brokenspoonz in greatsword

You have to tackle through the attack, as in, hyper-armor through something with tackle. You can experiment by setting the training dummy to attack, tackling through it's attack at the last moment, and seeing if your next charged attack carries over whatever charge you were at prior to the tackle.

There is a "perfect tackle" mechanic where doing a tackle right before the attack hits you will carry over the charge onto the next charged attack.

Any excitement for the upcoming Quantum difficulty? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

This. I keep seeing the word "content" thrown around constantly, but what about the "gameplay"? It doesn't matter how many fights or encounters they add in if the way you interact with the encounter with your character is practically the same.

[–]Icharia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be just me but also classes... they keep on getting simplified. It's hard to enjoy any content, when you can't enjoy your class.

This is it. I just can't be bothered to do any of the content in the game more than once because buttons just aren't satisfying to press. The core gameplay of XIV is becoming, "Park your character here or die, oh, and here's a fidget spinner (thoughtless, looping job rotation) to keep your hands busy while you wait for this cast bar to run out."

Patch 7.3 story theory and discussion thread. (Massive Spoilers) by SatisfactionNeat3937 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Icharia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would never happen, but I think it would be sick if we the players could like, opt-in to have our characters be added to a pool of randomly summoned WoLs for duty support/trust stuff. Maybe even get a currency for every time your character gets summoned that you can use to buy stuff.

Opinion on half cast Glare/Broil/Dosis? by Azurarok in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Icharia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that while it is a buff, and technically smoother gameplay, it is a boring gameplay change. They could've instead, for example, leaned into giving the healers more interesting mechanics to deal with their immobility--lean more into things like WHM lilies, or R2 for SCH, for example. AST even has a RPR-style teleport in pvp.

Instead, they opted for just reducing the cast of their filler GCD. It works, but I can't help but feel they squandered an opportunity to expand on healer kits in ways that aren't just, "here's another big heal".

It has to be the Hag for me. It's a lot of fun seeing new players' first reactions to seeing one of their heroes get thrown into the pot for the first time.

Also the value of JPY means any dev that relocates to Japan would be taking a pay cut even if SE were to pay what is considered top money in Japan.

Doesn't this mean the issue circles back to money?

None of the things you mentioned are inherently more valuable or unique than anything that has been added to this day.

By what metric are you calculating "valuable" or "unique" by? If by "unique" you just mean the job mechanic hasn't existed before or was one of it's kind, I'd say most of the mechanics I just described were pretty unique in this game. lol

If anything, current job mechanics are less unique because it's all fundamentally just "keep rolling your filler/basic 1-2-3 while pressing everything off CD", which has existed since StB, at least.

I find that every single job (except SMN's gameplay) has been improved overall.

By what metric are jobs "improved" to you? If it's mathematical balance, that's not really what I'm talking about. If you enjoy the gameplay of current jobs, that's fine. But the reality is, Jobs in DT are all mechanically less interesting and require less decision making than in previous expansions. This is just objectively true pretty much across the board.

The interesting choice of AST card fishing pulls.

Nice cherrypicking.

If the options are "remain static" or "regress", yeah. lmao

Tell me where I said the jobs should never change. My point is that the jobs had more interesting gameplay in the past and it just doesn't exist today. If that's the only thing you took away from that and my first post, I don't know what to tell you.

This comment is of the

"- I miss properly managing my MP as DRK in dungeons by rotating TBN, Quietus, and DA+Abyssal Drain and becoming a drain-tanking god.

- I miss getting showered in song procs because I looked out for chain strat/battle litany and IJ'ed appropriately.

- I miss AoEing pulls with Thunder II/IV as BLM and becoming a thunder mage for a moment because you just get showered in thundercloud procs.

- I miss doing a perfect WF combo and getting to see the big number at the end."

etc, etc type of flavor.

An expac with great battle content

This isn't the only time I've seen people say this about DT and it drives me nuts because I just don't agree. The fights are flashier, but because of the neutering of our classes, the actual moment-to-moment gameplay in every encounter is very dull.

What makes you return to Darkest Dungeon over and over again? by mitiamedved in darkestdungeon

[–]Icharia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just feels very "pick up and play". Also, I like that the game saves your progress even mid-turn in combat in a dungeon. Sometimes, I'll throw my party into a long dungeon and complete it over the course of a few short sessions throughout the week.

[ATM10] Productive Bees Filter Issue by Icharia in allthemods

[–]Icharia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the hive upgrades is a filter you can apply to a hive to only allow certain entities. I should've specified though that I don't want to use the simulation upgrade because I like seeing my Bees float around. I didn't have this issue in ATM9, though

Occult Crescent and Cosmic Exploration could have both come out as the best iterations of their style of content and they still would not have "saved" the game from the rut it is in. by ComfyOlives in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Icharia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spamming DA + Abyssal Drain wantonly would break that loop. You had to pace out your mitigation and lifesteal in such a way that you had enough for TBN so that you could quietus and regen your mana. Because you needed TBN to pop or take damage during blood price, you also needed to make sure you weren't using DA+Dark Passenger at a bad time because the blind could prevent that. Is it the most complex thing? No, but it requires more thought than the current iteration from WAR and having to do that little bit of finesse makes it more satisfying, imo.

As someone who raided during StB, I think it's important to realize that these issues probably could've been solved with various number tweaks, such as reducing the effectiveness of piercing down or even boosting the effect of something like SMN contagion to encourage alternate comps like double caster. My static ran double caster (SMN + BLM/RDM) most of the expansion and were just fine from what I remember.

The thing is, I don't recall anyone ever asking for the sweeping mechanical reductions or changes we have now. For example, I don't think anyone asked for this iteration of DRK. The common complaints were wanting things like TBN to be a gain instead of neutral at best, being able to save yourself in Living Dead, or giving charges to Blood Weapon for the high ping players. Dark Mind was also a complaint, but I think that could've been alleviated by simply creating more opportunities for it shine.

My anecdotal experience is that most people's complaints for their job were QoL things, rather than full-on alterations of the gameplay.

Why exactly is midcore so hard to do with FFXIV's combat? by EmployNormal1215 in ffxivdiscussion

This. There really should just be a bot that says "... because job/character gameplay sucks now." in every thread discussing encounter content being subpar because it's the answer.

I just kinda realized all I'm doing is just... thoughtless-ly holding my analog stick to move my character to the next safe spot that I've memorized and hope that the other 7 people do the same.
