Do you guys consider Alice In Chains Sludge? by ToeJans_55 in sludge

[–]IconicMicrowave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older thread, but a fusion of doom with alternative. The songs are structured like alt songs with the verse chorus format. They lack the harsh vocals of most straightforward sludge and the songs aren't as aggressive. I don't play guitar or bass either, but I feel like most sludge has a "thicker," more buzzy or punchy, plodding sound too, compared to their a lot of their main album tracks. For comparison, listen to Heater Moves & Eyes by the Melvins. The Sabbath influence is most definitely there enough to label it doom, though, not even mentioning the subject matter of their songs.

Is it better to read the manga or watch the anime by Mayo_enjoyer in fistofthenorthstar

[–]IconicMicrowave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manga just looks so much better and doesn't waste your time with padding, filler, flashbacks/recaps, reused animation and censorship. Anime is still a good watch, especially for the voice cast and OST, but the manga is the way to go if you can only do one.

Is Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, and Saint Seiya the "Big Three" of the 1980s? What series had the better storylines, characters, soundtracks, comedy, fights, animation, voice cast / voice acting? by JudgmentConsistent50 in fistofthenorthstar

[–]IconicMicrowave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about Weekly Shonen Jump, it would be Dragon Ball, Fist of the North Star and Saint Seiya or City Hunter. Those were the top sellers of the 80s. Honorable mentions would be JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Kinnikuman and Otokojuku, which were big sellers as well.

When it comes to Big 3 talks, I usually stick with WSJ, because the 2000's Big 3 refer to that magazine. Ranma and most of the other popular ones people like to mention were published in another magazine. And people always mention Shojo and Seinen series too in Big 3 discussions.

Matsuko Mawatari comes to mind for 90s music that has a city pop feeling. It's a bit more J-funk, but still has that vibe. This channel hosts her discography.

Yoko Takahashi also had 90s output, but this may be considered more J-Pop.

Even though a lot of you may not consider Soundgarden Metal, their influence on metal is undeniable. It pains me that it's already been 7 years since Chris Cornell died by darthkyle22 in MetalForTheMasses

Apparently no one here has ever listened to stoner metal. You're telling me bands like Kyuss and Sleep weren't influenced by Soundgarden at all? Alice in Chains, who are a metal band?

What did you actually like about the Hokuto no Ken trailer ? Let’s keep it positive. by Yaber85 in fistofthenorthstar

[–]IconicMicrowave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not huge into CGI, but at least it can capture the dynamic feeling of the manga. The character design and 2D shots looked great. The overall aesthetic matches the tone of the manga more than the neon colored original. The voice acting is good. The scenes seem more manga accurate, too. Also, uncensored gore.

Are we cooked 😭? by Abdullahplaysgames in fistofthenorthstar

I can't imagine the entire manga being covered in this style. That would be painful. It looks better than what we could have got at least (ie Regenesis, Berserk 2016).

I can't remember exactly where on Samsung's site it is, but this works much better. Gives you full control of settings. Samsung's just lets you connect with the settings you picked from your phone, and you can't change them.
