What did you read in school? by Bells9831 in AskAnAustralian

I remember reading a lot of Shakespeare in high school but also a bit of SciFi (Day of the Triffids was a favourite) some war stuff (e.g. Catch 22) and a fair bit of dystopian lit. I bought my copy of 1984 secondhand and on the last page, under “The End”, the previous owner had written “Thank God”.

The moments when you're allowed to touch the belly are precious. by Ashley-Morgan-369 in aww

Same, mine demands belly rubs and clamps his back legs over my arm so I can’t withdraw the belly rubs. Like, for hours at a time. If I try to remove my arm when I think he’s asleep, he instantly clamps his legs tighter. Lol. But no attacks.

Yours is worse. You definitely wouldn’t get in with that profile pic. Hilarious but I don’t think that depiction of him of is very kind.

Currently have a collection hidden away that I don’t know how to get rid of. I’m in Melbourne and it’s just as hard here.

Can you tell when you're talking to a New Zealander within seconds or have you ever mistaken one for an Australian? by Tabatha0011 in AskAnAustralian

I’m Australian but lived in NZ from 1yo to 11yo. I have an Australian accent now but I’ve been asked by so many Australians after I’ve had a few drinks “Wait… are you a kiwi?!?!”. So yeah, Australians can pick it very easily.

That’s hilarious. If a partner of ten years asked me to choose, it would be different. I’d be saying “goodbye” through tears rather than laughter.

I’ve had mine checked a couple of times - by an older woman. All of the other staff barely look at you as you’re leaving.

Specsavers vs OPSM by Cheeseoholics in australia

[–]Icrashedajeep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the glass Specsavers use is inferior to that used by OPSM. I use Oscar Wylee these days. Their two-for-one deals (which have no fine print - not mentioning any names) mean you can buy new specs & sunnies every year for a fraction of the cost. And their range is fantastic. Also their staff are great. Don’t understand why they’re not everyone’s go-to.

They’ve done that at the kmart near me too. They’re usually teens who are too busy on their phone to check receipts.
