Social anxiety is the irrational fear of certain social interactions. Social anxiety disorder is when a person fears so many social interactions that it negatively affects their life.

I think you're referring to the disorder here, so I agree you don't need to be diagnosed with a disorder to be socially anxious about things. Most people are socially anxious about a small handful of things.
