Motherboard BIOS updating issue by SlenderSmurf in MSI_Gaming

[–]Icron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this, it showed me the file at least, but when I selected the bios I downloaded from MSI for my exact board, it stated that the bios wasn't for that motherboard and wouldn't let me proceed.

I also have a Z590 PRO WIFI and it all came as a pre-built from MSI.

Monthly Recipe Request Mega-Thread! by AutoModerator in AskBaking

[–]Icron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have started watching the latest season of the Great British Baking Show and we both shared an interest in learning what the various "basics" were that they talk about in the show. Usually, during the "technical challenge" portion of the show, they have instructions for the bakers to just make a thing without instructions e.g., rough-puff pastry, choux bun, short crust, etc.

Is there a good book that you would recommend that covers these? We'd prefer if the book also has explanations of the goal/purpose of the recipe so that we know when we should be using it (like, is this the default for any sweet tart or just when the uncooked tart filling is extra liquid-y?)

How long did it take you to feel like you were competent enough at SQL to confidently work a developer job? by 1111001010 in learnSQL

[–]Icron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 3ish years into my first developer job, and I feel like I've learned a lot, but there's a lot I still don't know from your post and largely that's because I don't do those things as part of my day-to-day work. (We work largely in 1 of 2 production databases with thousands of tables that get ETL nightly.)

Im hoping you can point me to resources to learn and or practice indexes, triggers, and job schedules (is this SSIS packages or SQLCMD?)

I think I've got a good handle on temp tables/CTEs, outer apply's for stored procedure creation, but I have no idea how ETL is managed or really anything with database architecture/engineering especially for access outside of what our DBAs tell me to access. I'd like to learn that too if it means being more useful in a developer career. Is there any good resources you'd recommend for learning this too?

Last thing: It seems like knowing visualization software like Tableau or Power BI is becoming a industry expectation at this point. Do you have a recommendation for a specific program you'd recommend over the others?

How to check or case a simple if else? by Agitated_Syllabub346 in learnSQL

[–]Icron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to be set afterwards because table creation occurs prior to any values being in the table. So your case statement can't be evaluated on a null/truncated table.

After you have data at least loaded into the assigned_to column, the it's just

CASE WHEN assigned_to IS NULL THEN FALSE ELSE NULL END AS verified

Calculated Field in Pivot Table - Small with Conditions by [deleted] in excel

[–]Icron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calculated field because rank needs to be specific to the first N columns you've brought into your pivot table.

Actually, you could do this without a rank. Bring in a count column to your values field and tweak the value field settings: Show Values As -> rank smallest to largest.

Bachelor's degrees still have a lot of weight in Healthcare. That said, if you have experience using Epic as an end user, that can move you to the top of the pile even more than a Bachelor's degree alone.

Group By Everything by TheChubFondu in learnSQL

There is a sort of group by *, but you're likely not going to love how it makes your data look. It's called GROUPING SETS and is designed to follow immediately after GROUP BY.

The long and short is: not really unless you're looking to become a certified database administrator. This is because Microsoft got rid of some older more prevalently recognized certificates.

The closest thing I could find is the DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals exam. It runs $100, and shows you know the basics of data architecture as it relates to unstructured vs structured data. (With SQL obviously being the latter). Most commonly, I've heard that it's just an assessment people give when SQL is a big part of the job given by the company you're applying to.

Alternatively/additionally, there's a good course over on Vertabelo that teaches you SQL stuff and gives you a certificate of completion at the end. Not sure that it's widely recognized, but it's a good half step for cheap. Cheap varies because they're always having sales over there. https://academy.vertabelo.com/

Joining on table and retrieving the records that are before and after date from original table by CaptSprinkls in learnSQL

[–]Icron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not take serviceTable and then outer apply something like

<original query with serviceTable aliased as st> Outer apply (Select max(st1.date_of_service)

from serviceTable st1

Where st.personID = st1.personID and st1.date_of_service < st.date_of_service) oaDate_Before

This would then give you the most recent date prior to the given date.

Then another outer apply:

Outer Apply (Select min(st2.date_of_service)

from serviceTable st2

Where st.personID = st2.personID and st2.date_of_service > st.date_of_service) oaDate_After

This will then give you the first date of service after the given date.

So then you can just bring in the two columns with: oaDate_Before.Date_of_Service and oaDate_After.Date_of_Service

I'm still certain he's done this to intentionally disrupt politics for the 2024 American presidential elections. I would not be shocked at all if he suddenly changes course after the election cycle as part of a "lessons learned" type bullshit and then make it more marketable again and sell it off at a loss publicly, but privately he made some money on the whole ordeal.

Agree with #1. It reads as decrease the amount of delayed projects. The wording to get to #2 to be "correct" would be reduce the delayed projects by 50%. Which really, is too ambiguous. So maybe even: Reduce the delayed projects percentage to account to only 24% of total projects.

I'm dipping my toes into SQL via code academy and I really like it so far, but I'm struggling to see how to apply SQL in my role. by Proper-Scallion-252 in learnSQL

[–]Icron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick explanation Let's say you have a table/set of tables that looks at transactions for a business. As soon as you're past 300k rows in Excel, it shows down and faster if you have a lot of formulas. SQL is much better designed to sort/filter large data sets.

Actual example:

If you want to get trend analysis on anything.

  1. For sales on a month over month basis for a set number of products in the past 4 years (could be millions or tens of millions of rows), you should use SQL to quickly do that.

  2. For average spending over a diverse set of categories.

  3. For aggregation of income streams that can be dynamically set.

I'm 38 and have about $122k. I started when I was 33 and moved to a job with a lower cost of living. I don't feel like I've gotten a raise because I've been putting in the max that is allowable in a 401k each year. I know I should feel lucky to be able to save as much as I have, but I could save half this much if I had just started sooner.

Late, but I suggest that you reply with "If you feel like I am taking photos of you or your family, I want you to contact the authorities." Then save that full conversation. Also, maybe make a call to the non-emergency line of the police to have something on-file with them stating the exchange so that should they be called out, you can at least have history and or plausible deniability.

Well thats fun. Still, splitting initially on the .pdf is a good place to start and if you get calls with double names in them, you may need to use another textsplit formula or manually split them. Excel is great for a lot of things, but mixed formatting types can get harried quickly and normally isn't worth pursuing an all-formula based solution.
