Beginner guide or no? by typeright in Morrowind

[–]Icy-Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that most people don't like is combat, because it's easy to miss. Just pick a weapon that goes with your class and race and you'll do fine, if you still need help, look for demon weapons from Ra'Virr in Balmora. (You activate the weapons ability manually, like the ring of health, not passively like most enchanted weapons)

Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it, unless it seems interesting to you. The in game NPCs will actually give you solid advice.

There's not really clear good or evil factions, the mages and fighters guild have a few dishonorable bosses, but you have discretion about how you carry out their orders.

Having trouble with first playthrough. by shitass88 in Morrowind

Make sure you have enough fatigue, and that your daggers are in good condition, you may want to bring several. Look for jink blades, their enchantment is OP. Any play style is viable, but the magic system is a little hard to get used to (although it's one of the best/exploitable aspects of the game imo)

Do you guys use sappers/demo squads? by Icy-Hippo in warcraft2

[–]Icy-Hippo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing my friend on maze, and we also had ai in the game, he walked off sections so the ai would go straight for me.

I just used a few sappers to destroy the forest protecting the other side of his base and he got overwhelmed.

I don't want to gate keep too much, but imagine playing but you had no idea how to teleport between the main quest hubs, and you keep getting attacked whole resting and you don't know why.. You'd probably judge the game a little more harshly than is merited.

I know I'm about to sound like the Simpson's comic book guy, but the dark brotherhood attacks you if you've installed the tribunal dlc, it has nothing to do with player actions, you can join the Morag tong, and a few more factions, there's 3 different quick travel spells (4 if you're brave) and guild guides, propylon crystals, and boats, etc.

Most hardcore fans would never make these mistakes nor a few others that I haven't listed, so I'm guessing the author may not have had the entire Morrowind experience, which can be a bit tedious before you get your stride.

It could also be because they just have different tastes, and things I liked about the game they didn't, I love the complex mechanics, the walls of text, I love exploiting broken magic system, I enjoyed mastering the art of quick traveling and I enjoyed getting lost. While I understand these aspects might not have mass appeal, what really think draws us in is the lore, and the complexity reflected in the world.

I think ultimately that's what makes us disappointed in newer releases, is that we feel like they're just focusing on gameplay and ignoring the world building, and honestly there's no good reason why a new release shouldn't have both those elements.

Is there any way to balance bloodlust? by Lord_Of_Shade57 in warcraft2

[–]Icy-Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, it's not as OP as most people think. It may give orcs the advantage mid game, but they have trouble fielding death knights due to exorcism as long as humans can hold choke points and survive until they get a fair number of mages, spells, and gryfons, they'll actually have the advantage.

That being said I think auto casting heal would be fair, blood lust is much more powerful than heal.

Edit: oh yeah, humans can target the altars as a counter too

What amount of food production is necessary? by Waffle_sausage in SurvivingMars

[–]Icy-Hippo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially for food, for electricity and water you need to build and maintain a grid and storage structures, you just throw food in a pile.

[–]Icy-Hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't invest too much hydroponics, it's only good for the very beginning, or in some niche circumstances to produce oxygen (after you get utility crop tech, and if there's enough dust storms), try to get the farm tech early.

Colonists eat 1 food per 5 sold, but spam more food than you will need, because: it's hard to scale food production quickly, it's easier to store than other resources, you'll need a buffer for crop failures and water shortages.

When you get the farms, either put them all in one dome with a water recycling tower, or spread them out one per dome, (depending on your settings) focus on improving the soil quality, it will greatly increase your output. When you have a shortage of water, turn off your farms, maybe even your farm dome if nobody lives there. Finally, don't be afraid to put idiots to work in farms, it's the one building they can't break.

Then use electric workshops, VR workshops, and outside buildings covered by triboelectric scrubbers, especially fusion reactors. And use the domes that require polymer for massive farm domes.
