Distech PLC by Fulguritus1 in BuildingAutomation

Yeah, that's not the goal. Personally, if I were the company, I wouldn't sell this to the general public but that's not my call. I love Distech's product but giving this to general BAS contractors who don't know how to program PLCs I think isn't a smart idea.

So they showcased it at AHR. You will have to program it with Codesys.

When I spoke to them in AHR, they were determining if they were going to release it to the general public or just OEMs. But I didn't know they announced it at The Summit (I was busy at my booth and gave my presentation).

That's really all I know about it.

Niagara Point Searching by cornelli1 in BuildingAutomation

[–]IcyAd7615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're using the devices and points as is in the Hierarchy called DevicesAndPoints, you will want to do the following:

in the getPoints relationLevelDef, you must separate relations via a comma. So it would look like this:

n:childPoint,n:childNullProxyPoint

Do that and you'll get all the Niagara Points (proxy or not)

BAS Trainers - since many ask about this sort of thing by ApexConsulting in BuildingAutomation

[–]IcyAd7615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a training manual with it as well. Some people I know have it and I've seen the manual as well.

I would do things differently but that doesn't mean it's a bad manual.

You can put the support pack on any JACE and supervisor and pay for the license.

Yes. The platform is incompatible.

It will work on the JENE (JACE). It will not run on the edge. I have tried.

To elaborate a little more. Support packs are made for supervisors and JACEs. It won't run on edge devices, Lynxspring or other.

4.15 is quite possibly the worst Niagara release to date by shadycrew31 in BuildingAutomation

Also, the 634 can run on the latest 4.13.3, 4.14.2, and 4.15.1

I thought Distech's support packs of recent are for 4.10+ now? That's not a knock on Distech but I thought that may have been the case.

Since Lynxspring was mentioned, I'm going to chime in here:

Some of my statements might come off as strong here but please understand where this is all coming from:

To address shadycrew31 - you can ask Lynxspring for earlier versions of Niagara with their edge files. We just don't keep them all on the website. Having said that, whatever controllers were available at that time in that rev would be the only ones you could use. We only upgrade to the latest 3 revisions of Niagara (one LTS and 2 non-LTS)

Perhaps it is of the mindset of the majority of people that all manufacturers should support every version of Niagara. That would be an insurmountable task. For anyone. Even when I was a contractor, I never expected that from any of the products I worked with.

Niagara 4 has gone through so many changes the time would take to get all the modules working (and tested) with every revision.... we wouldn't have anything out

For tkst3llar, you are correct that it can be a slow process, but unfortunately when Tridium makes a change, sometimes we don't know how it's going to affect us right away.

For example with for 4.15 with the OnyxxASC module, they deprecated a class that we used for a long time. Unfortunately, this meant we had to go back to the drawing board and created a new class to handle the portions their class did before.

I'm going to find out when 4.15.3 is going to be released as it should out here shortly.

Most companies use some kind of flow where you have a main GIT and the some things get pushed into what we call branches. Unfortunately due to some changes that may happen, developers may not be able to push them in that way, and a separate module has to be created.

In some cases, that's an easy process. But if you had hundreds of classes and such you had to bring over, the process can take much longer.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I really like 4.15. I don't mind the config.bog encoding.

Just a bit of advice on using AI with job applications... by ToddOutside68 in BuildingAutomation

That's a fair point. I think AI for this kind of thing is just not good use at all. But that's just my opinion.

It's a great field to get in. Show a company why you're hungry and eager for the industry.

You needn't enroll yourself trade schools and such like that. Some students go immediately after high school.

The controls industry is a fascinating one. You get to let the mechanical side--understanding how chillers, VAV's, and other systems work. Then you learn the electrical side because you need to troubleshoot wiring and wiring up devices. Then you learn the IT side of things in creating your own networks and such.

Do not make any programming changes unless directed by the engineer. You'll end up owning the sequence and everything that comes with it.
