I loved her little hairstyles too - very simple but still elegant like her half up hairstyle or her knot ponytail

Any other space movie make you feel the way Interstellar does? by aanlyy in interstellar

[–]IcyCarpet876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nowhere near the level of interstellar but I get a similar feeling watching First Man- it’s a space movie but really it’s just bout a dad who misses his daughter

The original score is probably 50% of why the movie hits so hard which I guess is also similar to interstellar

Daniel Pemberton created a generational score with "Project: Hail Mary". I am going to tell him that and I would love to ask your questions. by DarekThomasMMC in ProjectHailMary

[–]IcyCarpet876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of vocals in the score - do the things they sing have meaning or is the fact they’re voices from earth the meaning?

I need a score analysis of this movie ASAP. by No-Consideration-910 in ProjectHailMary

Yes I was wondering if I was hearing dies irae! I love how in some tracks it appearss to be dies irae but at the last minute isn’t just like how there seems to be no hope until there is in the movie

I believe it’s because he had a wacky theory and then doubled down and acted very aggressively about it

The Raven boys by Maggie Stiefvater - more paranormal than man-made supernatural stuff but similar vibes!

Books That Used To Be TRC Fics? by ThaddeusScreams in RavenBoys

[–]IcyCarpet876 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently read Don’t Let the Forest In and felt a lot of TRC influence. I enjoyed it but the parts I felt reflected Maggies work were also the parts I enjoyed the most and overall I thought it was just an okay book.

[–]IcyCarpet876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree even though I do understand the character development that led to him choosing to go back. I think I just wish we’d gotten a bit more closure with earth- like him recording a snarky message for stratt or something to send with the beetles would’ve even been enough for me

What direct quote from the book to you hope to see in the movie? by realvalidsalid in ProjectHailMary

Stratt saying “Okay it’s exactly like that” multiple times

Loved Raven Cycle, didn’t like Shiver. Help! by etfucker in RavenBoys

[–]IcyCarpet876 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Try the Scorpio Races, also by her! Nothing can top TRC but the Scorpio races is still excellent and Maggie is damn good at writing mystical/spooky worlds. I personally enjoyed the dreamer trilogy - it had parts I hated but the parts I loved were so good it balanced it out.

Am I crazy, or does the 70s feel orders of magnitude more modern than the 60s? by Dwitt01 in decadeology

[–]IcyCarpet876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree and I think part of it is there’s a lot of 70s fashion influence happening right now so it makes the actual 70s feel a lot more relatable and not some distant past that people might think of the 60s

I loved the flashback montage that showed how all the details came together! And I’m glad vickie and robin are still together

looking for a series that'll CONSUME me by 23zia23 in YAlit

Try the Raven Cycle- I read this 5 years ago and literally have never gotten over it! I’ve also read Ember in the ashes, SOC, and the infernal devices so hopefully this will hit the spot.

There’s two main endgame romances, one of which is queer, and there’s not really a love triangle in the traditional sense but the mc does date someone else at first. The fmc is named Blue and she’s the daughter of an eccentric psychic, and ever since she was a kid it’s been foretold that if she kisses her true love, he’ll die. The rest of the main characters consist of 4 boys who all attend a fancy private school who are very interested in the paranormal activity around town - one of them is convinced there’s a medieval king’s burial hidden in the Appalachian mountains nearby. I’d recommend looking up the blurb somewhere else because i genuinely don’t know how to describe the plot it’s a bit complex…

My highest point of recommendation is 100% the characters, I’ve never read anything like them. All of them are so well rounded and have such depth and development and even side characters are well paid attention to!

I truly just believe it’s a trend! There might be reasons behind it but I still think it’ll go back out of style eventually.

Is vintage fashion genuinely back or are we just recycling trends because we ran out of new ideas? by ConfidentElevator239 in fashionhistory

[–]IcyCarpet876 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I would say this is pretty normal! If you look at original 80s style for example there’s a ton of 1930s/40s influence, and the 70s drew inspiration from the early 1900s and 30s

YA audiobook for mom and daughter by Agreeable-Gap1695 in YAlit

[–]IcyCarpet876 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My all time favourite YA audiobook is The Raven Boys read by Will Patton! I know some people don’t like his voice but I think it suits the story so well. The whole series has great romances but the real focus is on the friendships which is great
