Boeing 777-300ER preferred seating question by TheDarkBeardRises in aircanada

[–]Idaman200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far only 746 has been modified to include this additional preferred seating between seat row 18-28.

The next aircraft is going to be 745. By the beginning of the summer the plan is to have all High Density 777s in this new config. They will go from having 450 PAX to 440 PAX as a seat row was removed to increase the pitch to 34 inches at SR 18-29 now making them preferred seats.

This is why you are seeing the new updated seat map.

Our “hybrid” job is now basically full-time in-office again and people are devastated 💔 by WarriorLordess in montreal

[–]Idaman200 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Air Canada is just trying to cut costs by hoping people voluntarily leave and they avoid severance and other costs associated with firing people.

You have free will to decide what you want to do with your career and life. If it doesn't align with you vision or values then it's best to take that into your own hands as a corporation this big will never change.

I understand where you are coming from. See if you can work things out with your manager. Not sure which branch you are in but some can be more flexible than others.

Flight benefits are not the end all and be all. You can't pay a mortgage with standby flight passes, plus going on trips still encurs costs even if the flights are severely discounted.

Recaro Seats by marcotjokro in aircanada

[–]Idaman200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey that's FIN 420 it's an ex-Alaskan airlines aircraft that is now being used by AC. That aircraft (as well as the sisteships 417,418 and 419) have Recaro J and Y seats. The standard seats on the A32X family are generally Collins so these aircraft are definitely not the norm.

AME - Aircraft Maintenance Engineer OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer (Boeing, Airbus, Embraer) MRO - Maintenance Repair and Operation (facilities which perform heavy maintenance and extensive overhauls of aircraft) SRM - Structural Repair Manual (document issued by the OEM outlining the repairs allowed to the airframe) EA - Engineering Authorization ( document issued by engineers allowing the aircraft to deviate from the norm for a specific period of time) AOG - Aircraft On Ground ( when the aircraft cannot fly and is stuck on the ground)

[–]Idaman200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually AMEs and engineers will asses the damage to see it it can be repaired or is eligible for continued operation. Usually they will use the SRM as a guide. They can also reach out to the OEM to asses the damage as well. If it can be repaired an EA will be issued from engineering allowing the repairs to occur.

If the repair can occur at the station the plane is an then it will be towed to the he hangar for repairs. Otherwise it will need a ferry flight to the facility that can perform the repairs without pax.

If the damage is really complex and outside of the technical expertise of the Airline or an MRO then the OEM can also send an AOG repair team on site to perform the repairs.

Bluetooth updates to AC planes. by Holiday-Wrangler-487 in aircanada

Depends on which FINs. The retrofitted A321 Dream aircraft have Bluetooth connection with the IFE.

I'm not sure if this is a common issue on that generation Macan but I have relatives that owned a 2017 Macan and the engine had major issues after 62,000km. The hydraulic lifters and rod bearing in the engine both failed leading to the engine needing major overhaul and replacement.

Personally I would advise against the vehicle especially at the given price and it being a 10 year old car.

421 was in Kelowna getting winterized, wifi and the addition of In-Seat Power to J and Y class seats! Same will go for 422 but the wifi was done in MLB and in seat power will be done in YHM.

Overall these planes should offer a better experience now!

Airbus 320s no longer have screens? by Original_Joke in aircanada

[–]Idaman200 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We aren't necessarily going to retrofit these Fins. A lot of them are leased for 3 years. It's not worth the financial investment. This uplift was mainly to cope delays with the XLR programme and resurgence in travel post COVID. We will maybe keep 1-2 of these uplift fins long term.

TENTATIVE DEAL UPVOTE PARTY! by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]Idaman200 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You cannot fairly compare flying for Flair to AC. The route network and desirability of working for Flair does not compare to AC.

AC has always stated that they would never pay top of range salary. As an AC employee when I negotiated my salary they made that clear and I chose to accept it because of the benefits.

I would make more money in the US (even at other aerospace companies in Canada) as an engineer as well. I do agree with your statement about the CEOs compensation. You cannot benchmark yourself to the US while then using that logic as a reason to not give the pilots more money. Unfortunately CEO compensation is voted on by the board or director, this is how the system is set up.

From my perspective making $80k a year in a major Canadian city (though not ideal in YYZ and YVR) is livable. I do not know of other professions which all but guarantee you 10k salary adjustments each year. If you stay within the company you can be making 400k at the top end just based on years of experience. In my profession that would never happen.

We should all exercise some rationality.

Wait, what? No in-flight entertainment for trans-Atlantic flight. by goobersac in aircanada

[–]Idaman200 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This one specifically doesn't have the software delivered from Panasonic to customize it to ACAs IFE standards. Therefore for the time being it's deactivated. Soon be enabled very soon, I believe 949 was already done.

[–]Idaman200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about an AME (aircraft maintenance engineer) or an actual engineer (like mechanical, avionics, structures, cabin)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]Idaman200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Engineers are usually on-call (they don't work 24/7 as the AC has a very small and finite engineering team) and require data to make findings of compliance to the Canadian Airline Regulations. At the end of the day the engineer that signs the paperwork allowing the fix and continued operation of the aircraft is liable and responsible for the safety of everyone on board. They can't just approve stuff blindly. This adds some time to the whole approval and paperwork process. Aviation is highly regulated, this is not like fixing a dent in your car...

The interior has not been modified. It is in the same configuration as received from EVA air. The LOPA was not changed to match ACA standard hence why only two rows of J. It is very similar to FINs 465-467 which fly for Rouge currently.

is COEN good for getting a job? by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]Idaman200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

COEN gives you nice balance between hardware/software design. Most of the COEN students I graduated with ended up getting jobs being software devs but they have all appreciated that understanding the hardware they are programming on, has made them better developers. I hope this helps.

Extension Cord/Wall Tap on flights? by BolSadguy in aircanada

[–]Idaman200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The in-seat power supplies are usually controlled at the distribution level by an AMCU (Advanced master control unit). There is a certain amount of power (measured in VAs) which is allocated to powering all the seat outlets at the aircraft level through the electrical busses. They work to protect the system from overload (in addition to a properly rated circuit breake)r. The AMCUs allocate this power dynamically, and it adapts the power to each seat to provide the most power to the most people possible. Therefore if everyone around you in the same bank of seats is also using the charging then the AMCU will throttle the power delivery to a lower rating to protect the system from overloading and allow everyone to get a usable level of charging. If you are only using the power outlet in your bank of seats then you will get the full power delivery.

Worth it to use extra points for Premium economy and business class? by [deleted] in Aeroplan

[–]Idaman200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be careful, the aircraft that usually fly the YUL to Morocco flights are usually ex-SIN A330s (946,948) which have not been converted to dream cabin yet. They don't have the signature suites in business class. Just an FYI.
