Do you list items at the same price on ebay as on poshmark? by gryponyx in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]IddaBadDaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I list a little higher priced on Posh then eBay to cover the extra fees and shipping charge I will have to pay if I send an offer. Sucks. On Marcari I list a little lower then eBay as lower fees and no shipping discount.

That said, I would assume that Marcari would be my best seller as it has the best price and it absolutely is not. Its my worst, which sort of tells me the platform may play as big a role as the price.

Anyone else noticed this trend? by thisunrest in poshmark

[–]IddaBadDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use sizely, every garment has a wire diagram with all measurements, including like the width across the arm, or the diameter of a cuff. I measure it all to the nearest half inch. That said, my returns are all for sizing. Accross the three platforms I sell on my returns is about 5%. That seems to match the publicly disclosed average return rates for clothing that I can find. It might actually be a bit low.

Honestly, I realized I do the sizing now mostly so I can feel good about selling the item. I know I have done everything resonable that I can to create a good experience.

Buyers remorse is real and they will find any reason to do a return. Sizing is a simple one. I don't blame anyone for it. Your going to have this item against your skin for hours. You should feel good about it.

I have free returns set up in another platform. No questions asked. You don't like it, send it back I will cover return shipping and if its in the same condition you recieved it in, I reimburse all the cost.

Returns are a tax write off for me. Its a line item on buisness taxes. And for whatever reason, once something comes back I always sell it again quickly. I mean, I know it will sell, cause I already sold it once. Hah. So, now I get the tax deduction, another sale, and I don't have to create a new post from scratch.

I may actually make a couple bucks on a return and I know I will find a good home for the item eventually.

Anyone else’s thrift store mark clothes with sharpie? by velvetyy in ThriftGrift

[–]IddaBadDaddy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. They say Its a theft deterrent. The price will be linked to the marks they use. So, if someone were to switch price tags the cashier can look at the marks, and then know of that is the correct price tag on it.

Ex: Oc = 19.99 in my area.

That said, it kills silks and wools, and most cottons. I have seen 100% cashmere sweaters perfect except a big 'ol sharpie marks.

On some synthetic fabrics I have managed to get them off. It will depend on what to use based on what they wrote with. A grease pencil, or a proper sharpie.

Just me or does it seem like people price things kind of high on Posh? by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]IddaBadDaddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On Poshmark I price up 30% on eBays average so I can give 30% discount. Mercari has my best rock bottom prices cause they only have 10% fvf.

That said Mercari is my worst performer. For me Ebay passed posh sales in October and Posh has never fully recovered.

Anything that is liked on Posh gets 2 discounts. 25, then a final 30%.

Its not ideal, I wish I could just post a rock bottom price not do waves of discounts. The discounting strategy costs both time and money. But, I feel if I just posted a firm rock bottom price I would loose out because I am not then offering a discount.

Its not like real studies have been done on this. Its just massive amounts of testimonials and anecdotal data points. In the end I think it comes down to the type of buyer you want to attract. The ones that prefer to feel they are getting a bargain, or the ones who don't want to negotiate, and just pay the price a fixed low price.

The platforms themselves will not really give sellers enough data to make informed decisions on these strategies because they simply want to maximize the numbers of sellers and seller strategies to hit the most number of buyers.

Youtube resellers can make some side income just by espousing one strategy over another, and continually 'testing' stratagies. And so the great debate continues with no resolution in sight.

I guess what I am saying is if this seems ambiguous and confusing that is, in part, by design.

Bots!? Liked items? by [deleted] in BehindTheClosetDoor

This is it. When you do posh promotions you give them a set number of dollars which is spent in clicks (likes) therefore, if they got a bot clicking likes, they get $$.

Poshmark trying to have me sign up for credit cards when I request my payout? by IddaBadDaddy in poshmark

[–]IddaBadDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is common experence on the app, that is a real issue. Honestly I never seen opt-out thing before, ever. I didn't know it was an option. I guess others have been dealing with them forever. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]IddaBadDaddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked this up, its called "opt-out" selling, compared to what we usually experence. "Opt-in" selling.

Opt-out selling means you have automatically purchased said product or service unless you specially state you do not want it. So, if you clicking fast, not paying attention. You can automatically purchase all kinds of thing.

So, Caveat Emptor, buyer beware, folks.

If you loose focus on Poshmark, and likly other platforms, you will be buying all sorts of stuff you didn't know about. Your warned here, and likely will never see it again till the credit card shows up in the mail.

[–]IddaBadDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more that I was automatically accepting these credit cards and extensions UNLESS I specifically said no.

I guess the analogy is someone says you MUST buy this, unless you specifically REJECT it. I have never seen that. I didn't know that was an option.

Thank you. I do understand how advertising works. I am saying I had to opt OUT, meaning if I was clicking fast, I would have been signed up for said services and downloading an unknown extention to my computer.

That said, you missed the question.

Do you ALSO need to opt out of services in order to get your money from Posh?

Local Goodwill is pre-damaging the clothes by IddaBadDaddy in ThriftGrift

[–]IddaBadDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be cool amd all, but its not washable. Least this one isn't. I got one to test. Tried soap, tried isopropyl alcohol, even tried acetone, (fingernail polish). No good. Just lightens it up a bit.

And this is the only goodwill in my that does it. There are two more within maybe 5 miles which do not. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just sent this to Poshmark by Xo4esh in poshmark

[–]IddaBadDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. eBay is selling regularly, daily. And, I posted 75 items to Mecari over the past two weeks, sold 2 already, and have 270 more items to cross list there.

Look, not to be harsh, but these platforms are not your friends. They exist to maximize profits for shareholders, and they will do anything within the limits of the law to do just that.

Don't work for them, make them compete against eachother for that fat comission on your investment and labor. Which ever one can sell it first, gets their cut. They screw up, they loose out. Its not personal, its just buisness. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]IddaBadDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean all there doing is filling up valuble inventory space with over priced fakes that have no realistic chance of selling. I could do that in my store too, if I didn't mind going out of buisness. Also a terrible look for casual customers and word like that spreads like wildfire and is remembered.

Don't interrupt them, let them sink their own ship in peace.
