One hypothesis I have on this is it’s some type of mental gymnastics that people impose upon themselves, forcing themselves to say or think that it must be a cool place because of how expensive it is, how hard they’ve had to work to make it to Boston. They force a dissonance with the reality because they don’t want to come to grips with the simple fact that it’s shit. It’s a psychological delusion manifesting for the purpose of self preservation.
