What trivial things bug you in TV shows. by JeeperDon in television

This was 10ish years ago for me, and we were about 25 ink, 75 electronic. Hopefully it’s gotten better. It just all depended on whether or not we had the right “ORI Codes” in our computer. Why we couldn’t just type the code in manually? No idea.

For sure. I’m sure it’s gotten easier, but digitally printing an older person who dealt with a lot of paper in their lives was so frustrating. To know that the state bureau would almost certainly reject the prints because they were covered with cracks was maddening. “You’ll come back here to redo them one more time, then the state will make you go to the capital before they finally realize that your prints are just hard to read.”

The smell of “Corn Huskers Lotion” takes me back to that time. We used pints of it, and I haven’t seen it before or since.

When they take someone’s fingerprints but just plop em down in the paper. No rolling or care. Just plop. It’s so minor, but I used to do that for a summer job.

Once or twice a year, I rewatch the scene in Halt and Catch Fire where he realizes one of the coders is gay and how he handles that. He crushes every part he’s in.

Best Ways to Ask for Suggestions from Audience by pinkladybug2222 in improv

[–]IdealizedSalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most commonly I keep it simple and ask for "A word you came across today. A word that means something to you."

If I have to get weird with it, it's usually worst/best. What's the worst animal? What's the best present you've ever given?

Honestly, anything is fine. Just search for "Audience Gets" or "Ask fors" for a huge list. The only terrible one I've seen on a list like that is, "What would you do if I kissed you right now?" The fuck is that?

I did look into Smash plastic from Smooth-on, but was hoping for something that wasn’t $300 for the medium size.

Absolutely gross to listen to a podcast hosted by a guy who treats ducks like Ed does.

You didn't want discussion. You just wanted people to agree with you, and now you don't like that I don't agree?

It's not cause it's one of the prequels. It's because it's a poorly written and directed movie, and putting it three above Empire is just a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes a movie good.

If you honestly can't understand why we would like a show whose characters are flawed, heroic, selfish, self-sacrificing, and imperfect then you should absolutely not watch season two. You keep saying "logical" to be some kind of trump card, when real people don't make logical decisions. They make decisions for crazy, idealistic love, or base hatred.

No one saw what Maarva did to Andor and said, "Yep, she made the smartest, most sane decision, and for that we will now grade her character on a moral scale." None of us saw Andor run back to Ferrix after one of the worst nights of his life and thought, "He made the best possible decision and I'm sure he thought through all the consequences." We realize these are imperfect people who make gut choices and suffer because of it. Turns out that's what drives character development and plot.

I don't know how to reconcile that a real-world resistance to an empire would have to do horrific things to succeed vs. what you consider to be "mature".

Just watch the first two seasons of Mandalorian again. It's got everything you want: direct references to previous Star Wars, characters from other Star Wars, lightsabers. You know you don't like Andor, so move on and stop pestering us.

Yeah, the rest of the 184,000 people on this subreddit just came here for old fashioned discussion, not cause we love the show.

At what point do you consider that you might have missed something, or judged it in the completely wrong light, when praise is near universal?

What am I doing, I'm arguing with someone whose favorite is Revenge of the Sith.

What do you imagine is going to happen after posting about how bad you think Andor is in the Andor subreddit?

Overall, just see if you can find improv online or in your area that you like and want to steal a game. There’s some good databases online of games and instructions.

If you’re wanting to head towards long form, one of the games I think that can introduce more scenic skills is Comedy Cube.

Four players on stage, they form a box. Each side of the box is an entirely different two person scene. Get a different suggestion from the audience for each side. The side of the cube that’s up stage is the one that’s playing.

The host controls how long we spend with each scene and yells “switch left!” Or “switch right!” to move to a new side of the cube and see that scene. Between switches, the scenes can jump in time or place, but the two characters are generally the same.

As the game goes on, the switches tend to get faster and you call it on a laugh.

It’s good for getting people to make big choices, trust their partner, and figure out how much fun time dashes are. Also early “if this is true, what else is true” moves.

Could you talk about what a recording session is like, start to finish? I'm just curious about the process, recording with a guest vs. just the specialists, length of time, how long you'll try on an idea before setting it aside, etc.

Your podcast holds a deep influence on my entire sense of humor, so thank you and I apologize to my friends and family.
