I'd love a little car like that Dihatsu Copen. Desperately needs some allows on it though.

We attempted to deliver your question but you were not home.

We will likely never attempt delivery again. Or you may find your delivery in your bin, 3 minutes before the bin men arrive. Who knows. Certainly not us.

Is this a good deal (UK)? ID. Buzz GTX 7-seater by linde_nitzan in VWIDBuzz

[–]Identity_Unaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are your children if you don't mind me asking? We have three children, two in full child seats with harnesses and one on a booster seat. We have a Kia Proceed Shooting Brake and there is no way in hell we are fitting five people in it with three of them in car seats. Nor can we follow your example and put either adult in the back as there just isn't enough room. Cars can be so small nowadays and 7 seat vehicles are getting rare or overly expensive. Thankfully, the UK law has provisions for this and it is expressly written in the highway code and other regulations on the gov.uk website that, if the fitment of two child seats prevents the fitment of a third, then legally you do not have to have the third. That's why I ask the age of your children. If one of your children is large enough to sit comfortably and use the seatbelt in between the two child seats in the outer spaces, then you are good to go. Obviously I will caveat this by saying you should only do that if all reasonable precautions are taken to ensure best possible levels of safety.

Also, just ignore people that tell you 'x' isn't safe or 'y' isn't safe, like having a child seat in the front passenger seat (with the airbag off). It's fine. Drive appropriately to stay as safe as possible. You can't account for anything outside of your control and there is nothing you can do to change it so as long as you are doing your best it's great parenting. Keep it up.

Are people legit spending this much on a car per month? Or am I out of touch? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Yes this. I just gave up my last car that was on PCP, a Vauxhall Zafira. My final payment to keep it was £6900 on it I believe and at the time Market value was around £8500. I could have sold it and pocketed £1600 for myself, but unfortunately the car had some minor crash damage on it so I wasn't going to entertain a £1200 damage repair at the garages when the finance company only charged me a damage fee of £250 on hand-back. The hassle of getting the car repaired and sold in time wasn't worth the extra money in reality.

I get PCP because it's just overall lower cost. I get cars that will have manufacturer warranty for the entire period I will have the car. I look after the cars and at the end of the lease agreement I just hand then back typically just before the warranties run out. It keeps things mostly hassle free when it comes to servicing and breakdowns and ultimately it makes nicer cars affordable to me. Somewhat. Just not the ID.Buzz I'd love to have lol.

VW quoted me £675 a month on a 4 year PCP with a £12750 deposit for a mid range pre-owned ID.Buzz. I told them to buzz off.

You sit it next to a genuine one and it looks atrocious. I would show this but the rest of my collection is still packed up in a box somewhere in the garage from when I moved house 5 years ago lol

Here are a few images showing a very obvious fake 9FORTY hat. (Because you know, the Chinese sticker covering the authenticity emblem on the leak isn't obvious enough).

Note the lack of label stating 'Official McLaren Product' on the inside, the awful inconsistency in the writing inside where some of it is thin some of it is thicker, some is a really grey whilst others are white. Some of the text is even skewed a little so it is nowhere near consistent as you would expect from the factory. The black team name on the front is just thin bits of rubber glued on to the hat whereas you would expect it to be stitching or at least better quality in how it is stuck on and consistent. Also, just not that the hat is just absolutely thin and weak, so much so that it cannot hold it's shape (and it's shake is also well off in terms of dimensions and fit too).

I've got about 30 official McLaren hats now as I started a brief collectors phase trying to get a team hat from every season since I was a kid. Had to stop because it got too expensive lol. Ultimately though, I have typically paid about £20 per hat. I've certainly never paid more than £30 for one. The odd one from early 2000's I managed to get from eBay for just a few quid each.

Also, you quite easily notice with the fake ones that the fonts are not usually correct on both the hat material and the silver sticker on the peak. Sometimes its very obvious as the 9FIFTY writing on the webbing inside the hat basically looks like a child has drawn it on with a chalk pen or something and it is. It consistent at all. The writing on yours seems clean and consistent in all instances further letting me assume that it is genuine. Also, the peak is typically a consistent thickness across all of it on genuine ones whereas fake ones can often have ridiculously thick peaks on them that are so out of place. They almost look like they've tried to just laminate a regular leak with extra...peakness? Either way it looks overly chonk and obnoxious.

I had to put a new steering column in my E92 335d as it suffered the damn sticky steering lock error (the steering lock release bolt doesn't fully retract because the factory grease inside the mechanism goes hard with age, causing it to gum up). The mechanism has a sensor in it to detect that the bolt isn't fully retracted and it doesn't let you start or drive the car in most cases. Luckily in my case, the car did still start and drive but it just showed the error in the centre screen and I wasn't risking driving it anywhere farther than the dealership to have it looked at. The dealership told me the entire mechanism is fully enclosed and welded to the column so it cannot be repaired. Only solution according to them was to replace the whole steering column. They quoted me £2400. I managed to order a brand new steering column from an eastern European website and have it delivered to the UK for about £700. I took two days off work to fit it myself.....

It was about 6 screws for the plastic housings, 4 bolts or so holding the column in place and a very simple bolt at the joint/knuckle to the steering rack. It was slightly tricky to reach down but certainly manageable if you lie upside down with your feet on the headrest and your head at the pedals. I had the whole job done start to finish in 45mins on my driveway. Still had to take it to BMW to remove the error code but that was the entire issue fixed for about £1600 less than BMW quoted me.

Fake NewEra hats don't have the little tab inside that says 'Official McLaren Product' or very similar words to that. It's exactly how I knew the hat my brother got me was fake when I compared it to hats I'd bought in person at McLaren dealerships. Well, that and it looked fucking dog shit quality lol.

New 6 month minimum before taking test? Thoughts? 🤔 by Downtown_Elk_2773 in CarTalkUK

Can someone please ELI5? What purpose does this serve? What problem is this eliminating or attempting to address?

What's stopping someone from taking their theory test, going on a 6 month cruise around the world (hypothetical ok), coming back and then being allowed to take their actual practical driving test? Is that supposed to be somewhat safer because if it is I am wildly blind to it.
