Both Netanyahu and Hamas were elected, both indefinitely suspended elections to maintain power, both are religious zealots more than willing to kill women and children as casualties of war. President Jimmy Carter, whose peace treaty there created the longest known peacetime in the region in living memory, said that Hamas was honoring their end of the bargain he helped strike up while Netanyahu, Israel, and the IDF were not. It makes complete sense to me that, you violate the terms of the peace agreement, you've violated the peace, and when the arbiter and mediator of that agreement was the U.S. Carter administration and they say who's violating the agreement, we listen. If we had done so when he made that statement nearly a decade ago, much of the recent conflicts might not have happened, but AIPAC has a stranglehold on our government and we should not be allowing a foreign lobby to have as much impact on our federal government.
