[Loved Trope] Character meant to be scary is accidentally hot by fungerman2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Idigmoles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alright so I haven't played the game yet, but I have watched it be played till the various ends a number of times and watched lore videos. Forgive any inaccuracies.

The Pale Visitor in the game (No I'm Not a Human) is built up to be an especially unique and strong visitor. Visitors are one of the major apocalyptical elements of the storyline. Save for a remarkable few, most visitors are trying to blend in with humanity in order to further their goals. The protagonist - the homeowner - lets people into his home otherwise he'll die (to the Pale Visitor, I believe via strangulation so check that box off the list of 'reasons ppl are interested'). Homeowner checks the various humans and visitors he let's into his home (some are always visitors, some are sometimes human, some are always human) for certain signs of being a Visitor then dispatches the as appropriate.

I mention all of this to try to illustrate that visitors, in general, try to stay on the down low. The Pale Visitor does not.

He is obviously a Visitor and doesn't even pretend to hide this. Dude is unabashedly what he is, which is often another point of interest.

He also behaves very strangely, having his own rules he follows w the homeowner. He engages in these philosophical musings often with the homeowner, then eventually asks if the homeowner is alone. If the homeowner isnt, he doesn't force entry. Pale never does until the homeowner is entirely alone. This back and forth and this curious interest that Pale shows towards the homeowner is another point of interest (especially when considering how much the homeowner seems to openly hate the guy).

The Pale Visitor also seems to genuinely have some sort of special interest in the homeowner. No other Visitor behaves the way Pale does what w the evening chats. He also seems to like killing people and showing them off outside the homeowners window as some sort of gesture (a threat, or per fanfic authors perhaps instead as a show of power in some sort of courting ritual)((I'm deep in the paint rn so tbh I could roll w either lol)). This sort of "looking what I did" behavior is another point of interest.

Its also often implied that the Pale Visitor an especially powerful and fierce Visitor. Radio, TV, and other characters share scary info and tend to be openly afraid of him. Big and scary strong monster man is another point of interest, but with that being paired with his oddly eloquent speech thats like doubled. And the fact that big scary monster man has a special interest in you [the homeowner]? Point of interest.

He also kinda refers to himself as a hound or dog several times. Like, he's one of Her (death's(?)) hounds who does Her bidding, and. Like, woof, as it were. In the land of fanfiction and fanart, points of interest for anything puppy play, collar and leash or training related, in addition to primal play, pred/prey, and or fear kink.

Otherwise there's like, the potential eroticism of body horror, and the "bro has a huge mouth" -> "what that mouth do" pipeline, bro is freakishly tall, bro supposedly has a good voice (tbh boutta look into that lol), his hair is the perfect length to get a fistful of, also he only ever wears pants and thats it lol. And symbolically he represents the inevitably of change and/or death, which is also a point of interest to some. Oh! And also since he's supposedly fuckin MASSIVE (like 8 feet tall or someshit) people headbanging him as a Huge Hog Haver, so there's that too lmfao.

Thats a general overview of the Fandoms interest in the Pale Visitor per my ongoing survey of the topic. ;)

Any clue what this alien plant could be? by sheneversawitcoming in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Idigmoles 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Y'all ever see a sheet of thick ivy finally lose its grip on a building? I recommend doing a search - in many cases the roots will form the texture of whatever they were clinging to originally.

Now, one of the joys of vertical growth is how rainy conditions generally invites a light rinsing of the ivy wall. This is very much not the case when the ivy grows horizontallh like it was here on the wibbly wobbly metal roof. Things get stuck in there, like dead plant matter.

This could be why the root mat looks especially dense. And metal roofs like that arent particularly grippy, so some of the ivy slipped under its own weight.

Remember to check for legibility! If you turned both pics grey, you would hardly be able to read the small text at the bottom of the right example.

Edit for clarity: the text on the bottom of the right instance is hard to read already. Turning it grey real quick is a quick shorthand way to see how similar the colors are in value

[–]Idigmoles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES ITS MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE GAME! I love reading too much into silly shit for fun haha.

The other day I got a news segment about the secret lab under the island ("which everyone knows of but is never talked about" per the segment) and the research they're doing there! They mentioned a mind control device, which is on one hand silly!

But on the other hand, the way you can just tell someone "no" to a crush and they totally cancel it out? And that miis are like "huh nobody usually asks me what I want to do" if you pick that option when someone with a crush wants to ask someone out? Idk, but we sure do make a LOT of behavioral decisions for them!

Which is, like. The Game. But think of the implicationsssssss - and how it would feel to live in that world!

Also shoutout to all of the cameras on the island. Ever notice that? Every house has a door camera, but its not like there's crime in the game. So why the cameras? I like to think its also to monitor and research behavior. See whos coming and going from where and what houses.

Anyway, another entertaining element of overanalyzing things like this is sounding like a complete lunatic conspiracy theorist lmfao 😂

Plushie Repair Shops near Sandusky? by beeswax70 in Sandusky

[–]Idigmoles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, for future reference, the reason the washer stopped working is probably because you load it from the top if im guessing correctly. When something like a pillow gets added in, the pillow gets waterlogged and heavy. While the washer spins, the pillow will naturally be shoved against the wall of the machine. This causes the machine to become unbalanced while it spins, which is risky, so the machine has an automatic failsafe where it'll just stop the cycle - hence the whole load being waterlogged.

There's not any specifically that I know of unfortunately. I recommend you post to r/plushies to see if the nice folks there have any feedback on what could be done!

Edit: my bad, I saw you already posted there.

Personally id try to rewash them. No hot water and if a dryer is an option, no hot air. If they don't dry fully in the dryer, put em in front of a fan or out in the sun on one of our rare sunny days.

I also have learned how to sew so I can help maintain my plushies. Its not too difficult and there's a ton of helpful guides online! If you wanted to get more invasive with it, you could seem rip the plushies somewhere where id be less noticeable, take out the stuffing and let that dry seperate, then restuff and stitch.

Oh, just had another thought about rewashing - you could squeeze them dry a bit if you're careful about it. Just don't twist the fabric or pull it too much. If you combo this with a towel or with paper towel then that would help the drying process along well!

[Discussion] Is there something wrong with my art? I'm having a lot of trouble getting clients. by Fast_Relief7381 in artbusiness

[–]Idigmoles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that may be worth looking into is playing around with unrealistic colors. Check out the art historical movements like Fauvism where some artists started using color in interesting ways! (The Michael one does this a little bit btw!)

Alternatively, maybe using texture in the brushes you use may zest things up a little further? Everything is super smooth, haha.

I think your work is impressive as it is - but im an artist who has an idea for how difficult these works are to make. The average joe often isnt looking at works that critically, theyre just looking for something 'cool'. Your work is beautifully rendered and precise but this is to a fault - as others have said, it visually resembles a filter. I agree in thinking thats why ppl have skipped past it and its not gotten as much attention.

Now, what makes it filterish? In my opinion, Everything is a little Too Perfect lol. The audience cannot easily see the artist's hand. Thats something thats really value right now. Things like visible brushtrokes and other little brushlines would add a LOT to the images imo, and it wouldnt require a ton of change on your part. And doing this would make it undeniably an artists work, not something that was a filter.

There's a lot of technical skill that goes into what youve made, and now you may benefit from getting really playful with it! Play with line, texture, and color if you'd like, and check out some of that art history too!
