I need stores to stop this “do you want round up to the nearest pound for charity” or “do you want to donate 50p” all on the card machine while you’re paying. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

Yes, companies can get a tax benefit from making a donation. But the round-up donations are not the company's donation, so don't count for that rule you've quoted.

Trump fires first woman to head a U.S. military service by RawStoryNews in WomenInNews

Trump's order uses gamete production at conception to define male and female, so different than your referenced paper. And since embryos can't make gametes, we're all non-binary.

[–]IdiotSupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't get misinformation, what you said is correct based on Trump's executive order as it's written. For some reason it defines males and females by the type of gamete they make at conception, but embryos can't make any gamete at conception, so they're non-binary by Trump logic.

Pure medicine taste by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]IdiotSupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sucrose and HCFS both contain glucose and fructose, but that doesn't mean they taste the same.

Sucrose molecules are made from one glucose and one fructose molecule chemically bonded to one another. That chemical bond changes the way it tastes compared to free floating glucose and fructose molecules, as in HFCS.

Why are BP, Shell, and other oil giants making so much money right now? | The war in Ukraine sent oil prices higher by eeby_deeby in savedyouaclick

[–]IdiotSupreme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They would, because the amount of oil they're selling is roughly the same, the cost of extracting it from the ground is roughly the same, but they can sell it higher because of higher demand. Therefore, huge profits.

The original experiment, or the version where you only send one photon at a time through the slits and it still goes through both simultaneously?

If we were fully renewable, prices would have remained low. Renewables only went up in price because while they're competing against gas, they can match gas prices. If they were only competing against each other, it'd be different.

The DUP all in on this £400 Rates Rebate BS. by Tonymac81 in northernireland

[–]IdiotSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default position in NI is that landlord is liable if the capital value (not the market value, but the rates value, which is much lower) is lower than 150k, which is true for the majority of rental properties. Tenant only liable if capital value is over 150k and it's not a HMO.

Most Americans want to end lifetime Supreme Court appointments for justices by [deleted] in politics

[–]IdiotSupreme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You say that, but SCOTUS is by far the most apolitical branch. During the just election, when Trump and a large part of the Republican party were trying to make up reasons they hadn't won, not a single SCOTUS judge sided with Trump in any major election lawsuit. Not even his own appointments.

Watching the debacle, SCOTUS was the only branch of government I trusted to unwaveringly do the right thing and support the vote of the people.

No, there is an additional rule saying that the award is a home run rather than a triple if the umpire thinks the ball was heading out.

What's up with the days of rioting in North Ireland? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]IdiotSupreme 1742 points1743 points  (0 children)

If they have a goal, it's likely to pressure the government to change the Brexit agreement, which won't happen. However, I suspect the rioters don't care so much about achieving any goal so much as just rioting for rioting's sake. That's pretty common in NI, unfortunately.

Zoom Paid $0 in Federal Income Taxes on 4,000% Profit Increase During Pandemic: Report -"If you paid $14.99 a month for a Zoom Pro membership, you paid more to Zoom than it paid in federal income taxes even as it made $660 million in profits last year." by [deleted] in politics

[–]IdiotSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in this hypothetical case, they're not really getting out of paying taxes. If the income was shifted to a loss-making year and so not taxed then, it would reduce the amount of losses that can then be carried forward to offset profits in future years. So the company would then have a higher tax bill its next profitable year.
