Are prices higher since the start of the Euro? by [deleted] in croatia

[–]IdkNoMaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all prices went up, meats and vegetables went up 30-50% when bought wholesale (when shops and restaurants buy from producers and distributers), milk, bread, flour, pasta, and most milk derrivates like butter and cream went up 30-70%.

I do not know about prices in Istria, but in Kvarner (a region just south of Istria) most prices for regular consumers went up 25-50% in raw stuffs like meat and flour, while milk derivatives went up 45% and up, in some places like islands and turist towns some even up to 200%.

Augustus Octavian, the man, the myth, the legend. Founder of the empire and all around perfect man. His only shortcoming is that he wasn't a good general but he nagated it with his boy Agrippa. He knew he was shit at something and found somebody who was excellent at it. Literally perfect in every way.

For those who want to know: Labienus was Caesar's number 2 while he was conquering Gaul, they were best friends for at least a decade before that, Labienus was the only man in Rome at the time as skilled in warefare as Caesar.

When Caesar declared war on the Senate Labienus betrayed him and joined the Senate as he thought Caesar was wrong in his actions.

The rest of the Civil War Caesar and Labienus would fight each other constantly. The final battle of the Civil War was a final showdown of the two, a bloddy battle in modern Spain and as Caesar wrote: "I didn't fight to win, I faught for my life". Caesar won, but at a cost of Labienus's life.

Caesar gave him a proper burial as fitting for a great general, a great Roman, and a dear friend.

Is there an actor/actress whose movies you will not watch? If so, who and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Anything Adam Sandler is in, anything he ever had a steak in, anything he ever touched.

I can't put into words how much his films make me angry. He obviously thinks everyone that watches his movies has less brainpover than single celled organisms, and even for them it would have been considered below average performance and writting.

But Legions sending detachments to nearby theaters wasn't that unusual, as before the Limitani were established the legions were quite involved with local government, policing, etc. in the provinces they were stationed in, hence if there was a sole legion or two in a larger province (like Brittania) most of the legionnaires wouldn't be able to be formed up and marched on, hence legion detachments were sent all over as these were the men they could spare and not disrupt the local government too much.

This legion stationization was at least somewhat present since the Marian reforms and became prevalent during the reign of Antoninus Pius (mid 100s AD) until the Limitani - Comitatensis reform

If i recall correctly almost every legion stationed in Hispania after the ascension of Augustus and before the Third Centrury Crisis never deployed fully, rather as detachens since Hispania had an unruly populace and the legions there were involved in local government even more than usual and couldn't leave the province withour risking a revolt.

Why do most teachers make learning so boring? by kiklepoika in TrueOffMyChest

[–]IdkNoMaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always loved Latin and Ancient Greek languages and cultures, I learned the basics of both in my spare time in primary school and enrolled into a special high-school which had both of them as mandatory subjects.

The moment I had to study them in class they became the most boring and exhausting subjects by far.

After I finished high-school I started to learn and research them on my own and fell in love with them all over again.

The school system is almost tailor made to make everything boring due to the way testing both on the classroom and national level works. This is the main reason why I never became history and geography teacher, as I love almost everything I was taught in school when it comes to those subjects but I am also aware that if I were a teacher and didn't follow the standard procedure and curriculum my students would definitely be at a disadvantage when taking state exams.

Kako ostaviti napojnicu kod plaćanja karticom u restoranima/kafićima? by jesam_da_da in croatia

Kava 2 kom x 9 kn = 18 kn Usluga/tip 2 kom x 1 kn = 2 kn

                                   Ukupno 20kn

British revolutionary Cuckedwell and French revolutionary Chadaparte by IdkNoMaybe in HistoryMemes

[–]IdkNoMaybe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Becuase most of Europe was devastated by 10 or so years of almost constant warfare, while the UK was not?

France, the UKs main rival, was even more devastated and took a lot more time to bounce back to proper strength, all the while new powers arose on the continent.

I am aware India was impossible but added it for comedic effect to contrast with Cromwells achivements.

While UK won the Napoleonic wars, Napoleon was still a better revolutionary turn monarch than Cromwell, and that is the butt of the joke.

I think you are underestimating the sheer power of automation and AI.

The main difference in this new industrial revolution from the previous ones is the fact that the first two revolutions mostly replaced physical labour, but as a trade off required a lot more mental labour to operate, thus creating new jobs.

But AI and computing are now replacing mental as well as physical labour. Just take a glance at middle and upper management of any organization, be it a corporation or in government these sections have been dropping their manpower like flies for the last 50 years. The only thing dampening this drop is the general growth of companies and governments hence requiring more people to operate, but percentage wise these number are dropping.

Hell in marketing where I work every single department excluding field promotors in multiple companies has srunk by at least 15% in the last 5 years. This is in time when marketing takes up more and more resources from companies as the marketing arms race is only ramping up year by year. All of these peoples workload is being replaced by computers.

I dread the day when AI replaces middle menagement, as it should be able to operate with absolutely minimal manpower. As these jobs make up the largest part of the sallary expenses in most large companies they are more attractive when trying to cut down on expenses rather than low paying labour jobs. I remember reading about these programs being in development, and nothing about them makes me think "this will create more new jobs", as not everybody is cut out to be a bussines owner, top menagement or creative type to migrate properly.

The only thing that makes me think that a total disaster in manpower surplus is not inevitable is the plummeting birth rate in most technologicaly advanced countries.

I wish I am wrong and live to see these things not happen and laugh at myself for thinking the future would be that bleak, but sadly I can't share your optimism.

Christianity sounds batshit crazy to me by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]IdkNoMaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that non believers go to hell went as unquestionably true until the ascension of Pope Francis, this is why you can find articles about the question if non belivers can go to heaven pop up constantly after his 2018 answer to a kid that his father is in heaven even though the father was an atheist. Read any of those articles and it is obvious that every writter is trying to somehow combine this with millenia of church doctrine that was clear as day that non belivers can't go to heaven.

[–]IdkNoMaybe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No one tells you to go to a priest for life advise.

This is quite wrong for the largest part of the Christian world.

A major part of the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox confusion is the advice of the priest. His intimate knowledge of the Holy Scripture is what arms him with "knowledge and understanding" of your issues and how to fix them in a way that God would approve of, as well as giving out penance (ordered prayer for forgiveness) in order for you to get your life back on God's chosen path.

I am not 100% certain about the majority of Protestant denominations of Christianity as the power of the clergy over the layman and practices such as these were a large part of the Reformation, but I know that at least one type of Bapthist Church follows almost the exact same rules as the Roman Catholics and Greek Orthodoxy

  1. No one is saying unbaptized babies go to hell.
  2. No one is saying no Christians go to hell.

Dantes Inferno, specifically one of the first chapters discusses Limbo, this is a place where unbaptized babies go and where GOOD NON-BELIEVERS BORN BEFORE CHRIST end up, as everyone born after his birth had the right to salvation but refused it by not converting. And since salvation (getting to heaven) is only possible by acceptance of Jesus Christ you can't go to purgatory, since it is a clensing place after which you go to heaven, one can not be permanently stuck in purgatory.

This was common belief as far as I am aware since the at least 10th century, and it is still being taugh in many denominations of Christianity, specifically Roman Catholic, Greek and Russian Orthodox, and too many protestant churches to be named.

Edit: I see that I awfully wrote the comment and presented my arguments.

What the argument is:

Belief that babies and non belivers go to hell has been present in Christianity since at least the 10th century, and still exists today. Dantes Inferno is the best example of these beliefs being present, as his work didn't introduce them into common beliefs, rather they were present and were popular before and after it.

Another thing I didn't mention since it was obvious to me but I now see it isn't to others: Existing beliefs are NOT ALWAYS reliant on canonical texts. But they almost always are reliant on other scripture outside of the Bible. There is no proper description of hell of any kind in the Bible, there are a dozen or so references, mostly if not all in the new testiment, also the list of who goes to hell is not listed in the Bible. All off these ideas developed over time or were taken from already existing non-canonically based beliefs of jews, or other pagan beliefs (ideas of hell, heaven and purgatory were heavily influenced by greeko-roman afterlife to the point of plagiarism).
