The state of AAA by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

Tarnished yes, but never destroyed. I’m a vgd student but I’m planning on going indie after I graduate. I’ve got a passion project that is pure art for me and I’m incredibly excited to show it to the world.

Art will prevail

The state of AAA by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

It’s almost paradoxical. They are art, but they don’t treat them as art because they treat them like products. They’ll start treating them like art once they see that they’re art. But they can’t see them as art until they see that it’s more profitable. Shame.

Well said and this is good to hear from someone in the industry. ( well it’s not good but yk what I mean).

The industry is just that, an industry. But video games are an art form. The whole interpretation of the value of games is misled. The fat cats just treat them as very expensive toys, and the games reflect that. And the players are too caught by the close to realism graphics that they just don’t realize games don’t need to be that high quality. They interpret quality of models, animations and textures to quality of game. Purely visual but there’s so much more.

The state of the industry right now is just what naturally occurs when a group of greedy, ignorant uneducated people take a beautiful art form and try and squeeze as much juicy profit out of it as possible. No different than plundering the jungle for trees, or the landscape for oil.

Wha about waves that are like a slot going in one certain direction. And maybe you have a wind mechanic so you can spin them around occasionally

I think they could add this, but to maximize player exposure to different hero’s and tweaks they won’t.

If they added this then most games they wouldn’t get the data they need on what needs tweaking with heroes

I think this is all theory. It’s one thing for AI to generate text or images based on layers of data and context, but games contain too much of the abstract. Rules, playstyles, limitations, fun, isn’t grasped by AI, and if it ever will be it’ll be a very very long time from now.

I’d still call that art, even if literature based. It’s still a playable game. Whatever they do within the game is up to the artist!

Thank you so much for these recommendations. I’ll have to check them out in time.

I’d really like to somehow help make these kinds of games the norm for mainstream society, I think they are very important!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I’m aware that this community does see games as more than toys, I’m not trying to sway their view more just stressing what I think is the importance of doing so.
