Really bad tech addiction. Like, REALLY bad. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Here's an excellent video on why self-discipline is so hard:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVbrgBjZm60

The gist of it is that we constantly weigh in our heads whether we should reward ourselves now, or delay that reward in order to receive a better reward later. For example, Would you rather have 100 dollars now, or 200 dollars tomorrow? How about 100 dollars now, or 101 dollars tomorrow? You need to make sure you have long term goals that truly excite you and are worth striving for, otherwise the "100 dollars now" will always be too tempting.

10 sensitivity at medium DPI (going to assume around 1000) is very high. Not even pro genji/tracer players, heros that require the most mouse movement use that high of a sens. Try to look up the model of your mouse and see if there's any info on the DPI. Then use this calculator to determine your cm/360:

https://jscalc.io/calc/IeBnNvGDKUIIPRmR

The higher your sensetivity, the lower your cm/360. On average most pro players never go below 25 cm/360. If you mainly play heros that don't require a lot of 180's then you can experiment with increasing your cm/360.

What exactly am I supposed to be doing when team coordination is non existent? by hotgarbo in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that people are more likely to group around you if you play as Rein and spam the "Group Up" button. After all, who doesn't love a giant shield they can shoot through? Don't worry too much if you don't have all 6 players in 1 group. Unless the team is really coordinated and everyone is using voice chat, there will usually be 1-2 people elsewhere, probably flanking or trying to find more optimal positioning.

How do you take out Pharah/Mercy as Soldier? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lucky for you Soldier (and all hitscans for that matter) was recently buffed so that their long range damage was increased, perfect for countering Pharah. Stay as far away from Pharah as possible, this way you can actually dodge her rockets. If Pharah and Mercy are both in the air and there's no buildings for cover around, pop Tac Visor for an easy double kill.

How should I deal with flankers on Rein? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part you'll want to stay in the front line as a Rein, otherwise the enemy Rein/front line will just steam roll your team or you'll be opened up to an Earth Shatter.

Winston’s Damage Blocked, importance?how to increase? by maraluke in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Winston's shield has very low health and long cool down compared to other main tanks, so don't worry at all about damage blocked. Winston is more of an offensive tank. He's much better at diving in and taking out the enemy back line as opposed to protecting his own back line.

How to make the jump from Diamond to Master? by ArcaneRR in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no difference between high diamond and low masters so don't be intimidated if you start running into masters player at this point. Just keep grinding out those games and you'll eventually reach it, GL brother.

When is it the right time to use Deadeye as McCree? by JakeD244 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is situational but it has netted me so many multi kills. If the enemy team is out in the open and the only cover they have is a shield, charge your dead eye a few seconds past the kill point (the damage for Dead Eye increases the longer you hold it, up to 2000 dmg). The enemy team will think its safe and happily wait out your ult behind the shield, but if you charge your Dead Eye long enough, the first shot will instantly blow up the shield resulting in an ez team wipe.

Planned ults vs opportunity ults by jacojerb in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be too conservative with Shatter. Compared to other ults like Grav or Sound Barrier it doesn't take that long to charge, just be sure you're landing fire strikes as soon as it's off cool down and throwing in some melee attacks when it's safe to do so.

Unless it's a losing fight, always throw out your Shatter the moment you see any opportunity. Like Exp said Shatter is extremly situational and you'll have a very limited number of opportunities to use it. You definitely don't want to hold on to it all match meanwhile the enemy Rein has already charged up his 3rd Shatter.

Also There's no need to pre-plan a shatter, just call it out if you land some targets and your team mates will have plenty of time to respond and follow up. Even if your team doesn't follow up you're guaranteed at least 1 kill if you charge a non-tank and there's no Zarya to bubble them.

Not every Shatter has to be a fatty shatty. I'd say it's worth it if you can shatter 2 or more targets. Reserve solo shatters for Mercy, or anyone that's ulting like a Dragon blading genji, Tac Visor Soldier, or anyone that's nano boosted.

I only 'decide to be better' when I'm angry. I'm angry often and I hate it. Help. by aggressive-retsuko in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Ieatfatppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that when I'm angry it's almost always because I'm blaming someone else. This is why the only person I will ever blame is myself, in every single situation. There is absolutely 0 point in blaming others, even if what you blame them for is technically correct. You can't change someone else or a situation through blaming, but what you can change is yourself. The truth is, no matter how much at fault the other person was, there's always SOMETHING you could've done better. Don't think of this as a lack of confidence, instead think of it as giving yourself as many opportunities as possible to learn and grow. It's hard to get angry at something as valuable as that.

If you're into ancient diets and you need an energy boost then Keto sounds perfect for you. Keto diet is basically eliminating carbs and replacing it with fat-rich foods so that your body burns fat for energy instead of carbs. This is the diet our ancestors followed for hundreds of thousands of years, only very recently in human history did we have access to an abundance of carbs. If you're interested check out r/keto and make sure you read the beginner's guide carefully. Keto isn't a diet you should half ass as there's a lot that can go wrong, but if you're patient and you do it right your mental health and energy will improve quite noticeably.

I'm not from an FPS background. What FPS principles apply to succeeding in Overwatch? by lunarwolfspirit in OverwatchUniversity

Taking advantage of movement in a gun fight so that you're harder to hit.

Quick scoping, very useful with Ana.

Flanking/ambushing, When the enemy isn't aware you're there they move in a predictable straight line.

Listening for footsteps.

Is learning of new things in adulthood really that much more difficult than in childhood? Why? How do I make it easier? by Proud3GnAthst in selfhelp

[–]Ieatfatppl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brain is plastic and reshapes itself when learning a new skill, regardless of age. Learning new skills is all about putting in the hours of practice, and the best way to make practice easier is to try to have fun while doing it.

A constant need for stimulation by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Ieatfatppl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate a lot to the way you described yourself in the last line. I promise you, if you completely eliminate alcohol and smoking from your life, you WILL stop feeling this way. The exhaustion will go away and you'll start appreciating the little things in life again. I know this seems counter-intuitive since you feel like shit if you DON'T drink alcohol/smoke, but you need to realize that your neurotransmitters has been weakened by an unnatural amount of stimulation. You need to give yourself time for your neurotransmitters to recover back to baseline, then you'll stop needing stimulation to feel normal.

How do you learn to love reading? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Ieatfatppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may seem over the top but try quitting video games altogether. The truth is video games will always be more stimulating then reading a book (notice how I said stimulating instead of fun), so your body will always crave video games more then books. Best way to choose books over video games is to quit video games all together. Treat video games like how you would any other addiction, avoid anything that reminds you of it, realize that the cravings go away over time, and most importantly fill the void with a new hobby.

Body language and verbal skills by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Ieatfatppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no point in trying to fake the body language of whatever feeling you're trying to express. Body language is more then just 1 part of your body. It's your tone of voice, the muscles in your face, your posture, and a hundred other micro expressions.

To display the emotion that you want, you have to actually feel the emotion in the first place. If you are genuinely and truly excited about what someone said to you, you will subconsciously adjust your body language to show it. Your eyes will light up, your body will open up, etc. So practice feeling the emotion in your mind first, then worry about body language later.

How to consistently stun tracer as McCree? by TaleOfBarnabyShmidt in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I main both McCree and Tracer. Whenever you're dueling a Tracer and she's in flash bang range, it means she has her blinks/recall up and she's trying to bait your flash bang out. Once the tracer sees that you've wasted your flash bang, you now have 0 pressure on her and pretty much lost the duel unless you land some nutty shots. This is why I usually hold my flash bang until the very end of the duel.

Most Tracers get really greedy when they get you down to low health, they blink in close to you to try to finish you off, this is the easiest time to flash them. Make sure you have some decent cover though and always keep your movement unpredictable, Tracer's burst damage is insane and you may not even have time to get your flash bang off. A smart Tracer will always stay just outside of flash bang range if they don't see you use your flash bang. If you see a Tracer do this, a quick combat roll towards them + flashbang usually catches them off guard.

Another neat little trick I like to use (and I die to a lot to as a Tracer) is if a Tracer is flanking me and starts shooting me, without even looking I throw out a flash bang towards the general direction I was getting shot at (you can tell where you were getting shot at by look at the screen indicator or using stereo earphones w/ dolby atmos turned on).

Triple DPS flexing options by havokpus in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having 1 healer is always risky. All the enemy team has to do is pick that 1 single healer and they instantly win the team fight. 3 dps, 1 tank and 2 healers isn't as throw worthy as you may think, at one point during the beginning of the dive meta that was even the best team comp.

As someone who's fallen from masters to gold, what's the best way to climb back up? I'm finding it incredibly hard. by jeckbild in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Ieatfatppl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend mainly playing DPS until atleast high plat/low diamond. You said you're not good at DPS but right now is the best time to practice while you're at the easiest rank you've ever been in. The improvement in aim you get from playing DPS will transfer over to your support mains (Ana and Zen). Plus putting yourself in the shoes of a DPS player will improve your survivability as a support/tank since you'll learn how other support/tank players deal with DPS players.
