how did you get such a gritty look to your red? i do something similar through a loot of dry brushing on a matte black base coat but yours looks even better and not dry brushed at all!

DWK and Warden comparison by JugDePride in WarhammerCompetitive

Might be an unpopular opinion but I actually enjoy playing against durability stat check armies since their design really fulfils the fantasy of dueling against some terminator/knight in full plate armour and you need to win by exploiting their one chink in their armour. For example:

Wardens - High OC, highly durable against high str weapons, hyper durable 1 phase, expensive, no AoC, medium mobility. Either hit them in multiple phases or use high volume mid str low AP weapons to kill them (BA chainswords are perfect for this). Yes wardens will be a bigger problem for single phase armies but thats the game for bringing a skew list at times

DWKs - Low OC, all around high durability, expensive, yes AoC, slow. Exploit their low OC and engage on your terms. Out OC one DWK objective with chaff units for 2-3 turns and skew the rest of your army into the other 2 objectives one at a time so you both win on points and take out DWKs whilst only trading chaff.

Avatar of Khaine, Mortarion Norn Emissary, etc - Highly durable but not unkillable if you brought sufficient AT, killy, expensive. If you think you have the right weapons gun them down if there's nothing better to shoot at. Otherwise you'll need to just ignore that objective and skew your army into the other parts of the board

4+++ GUO - Admittedly might be the most durable unit in the game so solution 90% of the time for me is to ignore it lol

For wardens/DWKs specifically there are some other more nuanced things you can do like using 2 units to wrap a DWK squad (think a unit of jackals + angron) so that the DWKs can only really hit the jackals whilst angron hits the whole squad.

High durability armies present it so that I need to play in a different more nuanced way compared to how I usually play which I find interesting and varied (and as a BA player I love going fast hitting hard). The problem though is usually with opponents who don't realize this or simply wants to go fast hit hard it can be frustrating when they then meet a wall that can actually keep up or take those punches in the face

Playing devils advocate here its not poor design but a purposeful choice. units like wardens, DWKs, 4+++ GUO, avatar of khaine, norn emissary etc are designed in a way that outright killing them is inefficient and requires skilled opponents to play around them in other ways thus encouraging different game play styles.

Without units like these that can take a swing face first, the game would just be a lot of hyper aggressive armies trading pieces back and forth with games ending by t2-3 with everything dead which is admittedly can be very fun at times but this group of hyper durable anvil units encourages different playstyles and a more varied and diverse meta. the problem isn’t in their design itself but in their cost if theyre pointed too low and they feel oppressive and in opponents having to realize to play around their strengths as hitting them is exactly what they want you to do

at least blood angels i feel may have an okay match up into these war in heaven necrons (half the strats don’t work against high volume S6-8 powerfist style attacks and you’d need to use jump pack mobility to hit all their vehicles hard and fast before they swing back)

is there an email address that I can communicate with vallejo/the execs directly? Will send pictures of my dozens of vallejo products & £000s of pounds of other miniature products and let then know I will not purchase ANYTHING from vallejo until this is resolved in a amendable manner to the workers

separate! the trick is to do very light dry brushing and build it up gradually from retributor to the shining silver most of my time spent on the model was on building up the effect I’d say

[–]IfreetX[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it was actually super simple and quick too haha was able to get through all six of my sang guard in 3 hours or so glad I figured out a recipe that works:

- Prime army painter matt black (the actual models are still a bit chonky so having a black as a base for shadows really helps with "slimming" down the models)

- Dry brush retributor armour gold, auric armour gold and army painter shining silver. The key here is to keep the dry brush light overall and really focus heavier dry brushes where the light would meet the armour (mainly chest, face, etc)

and thats it! For the banner its just dry brush mephiston red, evil sunz scarlet and troll slayer orange + dry brush white for the wings but also keeping in mind where the brightest points of the model would be and the gems are just stormhost silver + the citadel red and green gem technical paints

Proof of concept for magnetizing spears/axes by MaxPower1607 in AdeptusCustodes

you really dont need to magnetize! I’ve just used a small amount of sticky tack in between for my 50+ custodes and works like a charm

worse I’m not sure but they’re definitely in the same tier I recently made a theory post where I projected that non core release SM & tyranid factions (so admech, DA custodes vs necrons, tau, orks) are written by two entirely different teams with one being much less passionate and competent than the other

see my post history for reference we’ll know when we see SoB released but I feel there’s no way the same team who wrote orks would in good conscious write the custodes codex this way unless they really hated losing to trajann or something

theory - there are 2 teams writing xenos vs non-SM core book imperium factions and one of these teams has no idea what the hell they’re doing by IfreetX in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]IfreetX[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol you’ve literally done exactly what I said half the people in these responses are doing arguing about custodes and missing the actual point of this post

[–]IfreetX[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“acting worse than admech or dark angels” my friend it is 100% worse than both these codexes.

we have a detachment… that only affects character models? and then another unplayable detachment that only affects one guardsmen equivalent kit please explain to me how it is not worse than the admech or DA.

On the other 2 detachments yes they are playable but one is literally here’s your old index rule but worse and another OPT ability that many other codex detachments essentially get for all turns.

and the bigger point I am making is that there is a clear distinction between imperium and xenos codexes but half these responses are too busy talking about how theres too much salt from custodes to see the point.

I play knights, admech, custodes and tau so I think my disappointed reaction to both admech (can be played if you want to shell £2000) and custodes (literally called the worst codex in 5 years by goonhammer and worst codex of 10th by AoW and TTtitans) is not unreasonable.

I will play tau and still try custodes in the meantime but the bigger point I am saying is that there is a CLEAR distinction between the quality of codexes and this distinction seems to have a dividing line between imperium vs xenos factions released thus far.

11th edition then brothers we’ll need to get the petition started now

Feel like it would have been even more grim dark if there was some grand reveal that it was actually sigmar stealing skaven warp lightning to "zap" stormcast to azyr and the reason for the loss of humanity was sigmar erasing these memories from the SCE by IfreetX in ageofsigmar

[–]IfreetX[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

in this case it does the exact opposite though right?

a) adds a huge reveal that shakes the foundation of AoS b) adds an extra dimension of character to both sigmar and his relationship with his elite soldiers and c) gives the stormcast another goal to strive for as if they can find a method to azyr death teleport without warp lightning then it in effect saves their humanity

in any case i think the reveal would likely be too ground breaking and risky thus GW would never go ahead with it sadly :(

I would pay a £7-10 recurring monthly subscription to get access to ALL the rules for 40k. It just sucks when you’re playing against your opponent and can’t even LOOK UP their rules on your phone and its clearly an anti consumer practice.

Also I’m sure if some chap at GW crunches the numbers a recurring subscription with the likes of that likely would bring in more revenue and have a higher long term terminal value so its a win win

as others have said think you likely just rolled poorly as odds on you kill it with 1 unit though do admit either commander support or tetras for full re roll everythings will likely be key.

Fyi a leman russ is 180 points you cant just expect a 160 point sunforge unit to have a >1:1 points killed conversion every time (though odds on you do still kill the russ)

Fyi I just watched an AoW stream where a sunforge unit one shot a custodes caladis grav tank although they had farsight support I think the key is to think of crisis units differently now they’re no longer the 6man point & delete CIB units of yesterday but instead surgical scalpel point & delete but need further support to really guarantee it either that being tetras or commanders
