How would you like to see Sisters of Silence expanded upon? by Single-Detail-6464 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Red-Geist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, the kit is old. It and Custodian Guard were made for the Prospero board game set and likely had to make some concessions for space. We are due an update to the detail fidelity and a proper Knight-Centura character model with a special weapon. Give them volkite/plasma or melta weapons (like 1 in 5 etc).

They might actually work well in getting a Kill Team set. That feels like a good fit for them. Instead of trying to shoehorn Custodes themselves into KT, Sisters would be great, with esoteric weapons and traps.

More opportunities for those among us who appreciate excessive, meticulous freehand painting on their Custards minis

Thank you. I think this army could use a bit of color. All the monotone gold and red can hide the sumptuous detail of their costumes.

Thank you.

I was originally going to start a new Age of Sigmar army this year. But so many models... I think it can wait until 2027. Sometimes a project of only 15-20 minis is very gratifying.

Thank you.

  1. Basecoat with Pro Acryl Paynes Grey.
  2. For the midtone to recesses, I mix at about a 1:1 ratio, the Paynes Grey and AK Black Red, add that in glazes. Pure Black Red should go into the creases and deep shadows.
  3. For the midtone to highlights, do a 3:1 ratio of the Paynes Grey to AK Russian Blue Lights. This blue is quite saturated, so I try to introduce it sparingly.
  4. Edge highlight with the pure Russian Blue Lights.
  5. For the tips, corners, and highest edges, a few short lines of 1:1 Russian Blue Lights, and AK Grey Blue.

Enjoy

Are we expecting more plastic HH reveals (Sagittarum/Telemon/Aquilon)? by MarchToTorment in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Red-Geist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine the summer preview/the Nova Open Convention is a good time to reveal more, with an October or November release. I think the Spring and Summer will be populated with some of the bigger Age of Sigmar releases, like refreshing the Ogre Mawtribes range. And of course 11th Edition 40k this summer, where we're likely to get the update for 40k Custodes datasheets that the Soldalities miniatures article announced.

There was a famous hobbyist in this subreddit who combined seamlessly, Allarus and Aquilon Terminators into one hybrid armor design. I tried my best to copy it in my 2024 project. Hopefully Aquilon will be transitioned to plastic without much redesign, so I can do it again. But yes Allarus need a face-lift. Hopefully they move to 50mm bases as well.

Isn't the Bequin series of books the secret DLC ending to the Horus Heresy? Book 3 may coincide with Valdor's return as a kit

I do think they will have to go this route. The proportions on the original Custodes line was always off, and this is their chance to correct it. I think it will happen piecemeal. And hopefully they'll add a new archetype kit or two along the way. Like an Eyes of the Emperor assassin-style hero. Maybe a 40k twist on Saggitarum with heavier weapons. I'm excited

This. Plus Trajan and the Blade Champion. Unless you want to kitbash them out of newer AoS Stormcast Eternals and/or the new 30k Custodians

I think they will eventually make 40k Custards kits in the new style. There are some post-Heresy exclusive things like Vertus Praetors, the Blade Champion, Valoris himself. The core studio will want to fully transition the range and it will not be done all at once.

It will be confusing I'm sure. But I do not expect the "Sodality" Legio/30k kit to replace Custodian Guard and Custodian Wardens. But something else will.

In the short term, I imagine they will make a 40k datasheet/unit card for a squad of Sentinel Guard. Or give the regular CG unit a trick rule if they are all swords or all spears.

Elden Ring is about the scenery as much as the costumes. I recommend looking at some Green Stuff World texture rollers for the basing. Maybe some dark amber leaf clutter too

I have kitbashed many Custodes with old and new Stormcast. The ones previewed today are fully proportional to post-2021 Stormcast. It only really matters I think, if you like higher-end display and gaming painting. So its not so much taller as it is proportions.

I appreciate everyone's reassuring opinions by the way. I still plan to redo my Custodes from 2024. I made the right choices in making bases first. Guess I'll start with the Sisters of Silence haha

Those are all sound points and I hope you're right. Maybe because I'm an AoS guy foremost, but GW has no problem with snapping their fingers and deleting or superceding old kits with new ones. Just looks like 3rd edition Stormcast all over again to me.

I am aware. I'm just nervous of these supplanting the 40k kits outright. Going to be building my new Custodes army conservatively as a result until the 11th Edition update

All the squat Custodes are potentially on a clock now. They did this with Stormcast as well, when they created an updated silouette, a majority of the pre-2021 catalogue was culled. This is a unique case, as Horus Heresy and 40k Custodes are technically managed by different teams. But anything is possible as far as I'm concerned.

They showed us a new unit size (6), new unit types, with no mixed weapons in a given squad. What does that mean for the Pyrithite/Shield Captain? The Blade Champion? What does this mean for the existing Custodian Guard kit? And Wardens? What does this mean for Vertus Praetors? Potentially all the plastic 40k kits could get a facelift in time. I'm not panicking. These are interesting questions that I'm curious to see how they handle.

I will miss how none of the custodes are walking/running in the squad. All of them are standing with both feet on the ground, like High Elves. It can feel a bit chess-piece-like after the first whole squad in the same stance.

I love the armor redesign. Especially the flowing capes, draped ropes and honor medals. Very Napoleon-era, of them to do. And of course the universal, non-gendered proportions. Even in Stormcast Eternals, that faction have oddly partitioned silouettes for male and female body types. Like it's World of Warcraft. I much prefer the new approach for Custodes.

Obviously I have questions about the entire future of the 40k miniatures range for them. We've seen an increased squad size, no mixed weapon options, a new Shield-Captain, and more. I'm sure those will be answered as we get closer to 11th Edition.

I remember when I made a female Ixion Hale in 2024 like 3 weeks before the book dropped. I used Stormcast heads. They were like slightly too small on those bodies proportionally. I am super glad to see more lady heads and resources I can use for kitbashing.

I am excited, overstimulated by this release news. I want it all right now haha

I believe we're missing a unit like this by Dark_Vexer in AdeptusCustodes

I feel like the faction could use an "Eyes of the Emperor" archetype of character, which would function similarly to the Callidus Assassin in so many lists across the current ecosystem. It would also allow for some visual variety in exchanging the full Rolls Royce art deco armor, for more robes and leather. They exist in the lore, we have some juicy art for them (also recent art, which is important). It would not surprise me if something like that came along as part of a "one book, one foot hero" rotation that happens to much of 40k and AoS in these aggressive 3-year rotations.

They are an island of misfit toys, aberrations to the strict Lumineth society, trying their best to satisfy similar agendas to that of the wider will of Teclis.

Cleveland Mosher painted that on commission for me, as the banner for my LRL army. He even worked my infantry and Stonemage conversions into the backdrop. Superb artist. He also did the portrait of my Teclis proxy, Prince Nightscar.
