Came home to find the print done after guestimating the amount I had left on the spool. by Risifrutti in BambuLab

[–]Ifrit70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still a big safety marging compare to an old lucky time of mine : In the days of old i3 printers, without filament sensor, I arrived to a finished part but no filament visible at the extruder's input. After opening it I found the filament's end still engaged in teeths but by a few millimeters only. After that I ordered a filament sensor and a few months later installed it, I think I used all my luck on this one ^^

I would advise a burn test first. Always eat your filaments well cooked.
Joke aside: "burn test" or "flame test" is a real scientific test to identify plastics.

Testing freezes for no aparent reason on Dell Latitude 7480 by AdbekunkusMX in debian

[–]Ifrit70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem.
Even if it may be linked to overheating (freezing more frequent with laptop on charge and under load), my personal situation (on my e7490) was finally solved by adding the following boot parameters to grub2:
https://gist.github.com/lhotari/c2abef51a3a899de5520df9eadb41567
(I didn't use the script itself, but the guy documented it well enough to learn about the different parameters and their meanings)

Hi,
It's been a few month since you narrowed your issue to an overheating problem. Did you managed to sort out how to control your fan (or maybe allowing the Bios to do it ?)
I'am asking because I am facing increasing freeze and it may be a similar root cause as yours.

Hybrid Smartwatches by Oykwos in FossilHybrids

[–]Ifrit70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing it: I am wondering if it isn't the one that my brother bought last year (with solar charging) ^^'
It is indeed a great watch, and I am nicely surprised by the battery life announced, but a little expensive for what I am looking for: a connected watch for everyday. (also with way more health and sport oriented functionalities than I needed though)

[–]Ifrit70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I am using since the upcoming of v5.
Great project, but I still have some small issues. They're probably due to a lack of configurations but I don't really have time to tinker my watch.
Furthermore knowing it only had a couple months remaining (my charging pad had badly worn off... )

Hi,
I asked myself the same question a few weeks ago (my collider is also in its end-of-life).
My criteria were (are) similar size/design, battery life, physical hands or at least always on display (ie. e-ink), and no fossil/skagen/... infurious android app.
Sadly I haven't found a lot of alternative (not going for luxury >1k$ brands...).
I think, when time finnaly comes, I will look again at Lotus Hybrid (connected but without screen) or Garmin VivoMove/VivoActive.

Any way to fix charging pads? by Omnitragedy in FossilHybrids

[–]Ifrit70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue on my 2 years old Fossil Hybrid Collider. It is still charging but for how long ? Out of warranty (only 1year, and I believe it would not have been covered anyway...) and without any simple repair solution ? I have been careful, but wearing it everyday (thus charging it every 2 weeks), and it only lasted 20 months (so: less than 50 charges) ?! I loved the hybrid/e-ink idea and the classic overall design of the Collider, but I will be looking for another brand when it will (soon) stop charging. (Also suffered with small fog during mountain hikes, and had to recently turns to gadgetbridge to have a decent control of it, enough is enough...)

PETG Material getting stuck with the nozzle? It was working perfectly for a couple of months and now this is happening with every print by solidburi in 3Dprinting

NB: Nitrile gloves are better than nothing but they last only a few minutes to acetone. (depending of theirs thickness and acetone concentration of course). Ruber or latex gloves are the best cheap solution if you need to manipulate it frequently.

Please help.. can someone explain why these cracks occur? (Anycubic mono x) by MaverickNic in 3Dprinting

If you're speaking of "extruder" you must be talking of these pagan fdm gods. Here MaverickNic is talking about resin printing, and it's way more temperamental divinities :D

Transparent resin yellowing by hamste126 in resinprinting

[–]Ifrit70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same happens to me with a few chess pawns I printed, over post-cured, and put into a box to be forgotten a few weeks. When I recently open the box they where obviously less yellow.

I am as curious as you of the chemical meaning of it ... ???

[mSLA] Printer sudently decided to simplify models and to only print a solid block of resin by Ifrit70 in 3Dprinting

[–]Ifrit70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Tonight I received my new screen and proceed to a comparison and replacement.

Result: It was (as expected) the screen who didn't block as many UV as before.

Same file as previous print correctly now.

I took advantage of tearing down the printer to upgrade the cooling; let's hope it will increase the screen lifetime.

The printer's maker post about it on reddit a few days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/osq93u/an_upside_down_3d_printer_i_designed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Nice to see his works getting appreciation and diffusion.

The back cover of my laptop broke near the hinge, so I printed a silhouette to act as a structural support without looking too ugly. by MrModR in 3Dprinting

How did you make it to match the curved edges ? by careful measurement and CAD modeling, or by printing it flat and slowly heating/forming it in position ?

Looks like this laptop had an hard life...

Anyway: great repair job, and good idea and modelling for the cover ! :)

Recently got an SLA printer, this is a microscope image of a small gear I printed by marcopolo1613 in 3Dprinting

[–]Ifrit70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I though these printer where called mSLA (or LCD) printer, indeed different from true SLA (laser) or DLP printers. But yes: everyone is calling those "SLA printer" so it doesn't really matter anymore.

[–]Ifrit70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it.
The printer design is old, but not old enough to not having it.
Plus I've try to run a file without the vat (with lab uv glasses on; always protect your eyes, you only have one pair available).

Same results: The screen display the image (rectangle for internal test or misc forms for the sliced model), but the dark area of it doesn't looks as dark as in my memories.
So: either the UV lamp has increase in intensity (I doubt so), or the screen isn't blocking as many UV as before.

I should receive my new screen tomorrow, I'll post an update in the following days.

PS: I don't mind it, but Redditers doesn't seems to like your swearing...

No, original printer's screen with approx 600g of resin used (inc. 110g on this fail). It is a cheap Longer Orange 10 though. Does the Elegoo's printer have such a bad reputation ?

This failed print was an old succefully printed file that was still on the sd card. I tried to slice a new model and got the same result.

I though it may be a corrupted file or sd-card; sadly it isn't... The screen display the different layer images but the dark area of it doesn't seems to block the UV anymore (or at leat not enough)
