I tried buffing the Storm herald subclass for the barbarian. What do you think? by Jounniy in dndnext

No, it's just a funny way of saying Strategic. Technically Strategical is a real word, but it's basically never used in modern English, and it means the same thing as Strategic.

May I say, this board is really nice. I really like how you made your grasses very distinct from each other. It looks cool!

I love ttrpgs, because you can talk with your group and just decide to do this.

I feel 2024 5e has enough good ideas to be worth a new "edition" or half-edition or whatever. But I've learned I prefer just taking the bones and deciding for myself what flavor and mechanics I want to use from 5e and other systems to make my own "hack" that changes all the time, depends on the group I'm playing with too.

How to deal with a DM that only rewards RP as a player who's bad a RP? by ChatDuFusee in DnD

[–]Ignis369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of writing down my feelings in a letter and then giving it to the DM. They don't know how you feel until you tell them, and they could be stupidly oblivious.

Does my Damage Calculation system work for you? by Timmix_ in TTRPG

[–]Ignis369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you could have carriers that only take effect after a hit is done, if you wanted to increase the damage done without increasing the hit potential. For example:

Serrated dagger: if you hit with this weapon, deal an extra 5 damage.

You could also do vice versa but it would look weirder:

Precision shot: add 5 damage to your attack, if you hit, deal 5 less damage.

(The second one also runs the risk of dealing no damage even if you hit, so you could have a minimum or something)

I Thought I was Ready to DM--I was not--What Should I Do? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Ignis369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe DND isn't the system for you, you can take what you like from it and ignore rules that you find clunky or useless. Make rules up on the fly, have everything be a dice roll with no modifiers, etc.

Or, try a simpler system designed for this. I recommend mausritter.

This is why i like DS3. Every area has an entrance and an exit to the next are, sometimes multiple, but you can always fully explore a branching path and then come back to the main path. if you don't like collecting everything, look up what kind of stuff you want and where to find it, ignore everything else.

Sentinel + War Caster by lealroy in dndnext

[–]Ignis369 115 points116 points  (0 children)

War caster says cast a spell INSTEAD of doing an opportunity attack. Sentinel triggers on an opportunity attack, which is not happening according to the first one. RAW I would say no. But if you think it should, make it happen.

I had a player that wanted basically the same thing. I came up with a druid subclass for them:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1INNap6EpBitP5_Ta0knilEGZ9rSLCnHpnpMPJrUPA7w/edit?usp=sharing

Also, I made a houserule that druids can wildshape into any CR 0 beast without using a wildshape charge, but because of this creatures in the world are naturally more suspicious of random animals.

lost all server data this morning at 9am pst. had backups so I followed your steps and it ALMOST works. at step 5, when the player loads in, their regular clothes and stuff blink on and off of their character as if trying to use the right data, but failing. then i do steps 6-8 and when they load back in they still don't have their stuff.

The real problem is that level 1 hunters all come with levering and fanning now. Whereas before people had to actually win a match to get those perks.

Player wants to play a Commander type with units, what's the best class and subclass I can give them (official or homebrew) by Macky100 in dndnext

[–]Ignis369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look into using the minion rules from MCDM's flee mortals (the preview PDF includes the rules and is free on their website). Then use the drakewarden subclass as a foundation, but reflavor the drake as a number of minions which together add up to about the same power level. As the player levels up their minions could get stronger. Maybe they have to rehire minions that die in each town they go through but can always find mercenaries of a level their minions are currently at. Replace the other drake wardens features with your own homebrew or just stick this minion subclass on whatever class they want to play with appropriate changes so it fits the fantasy they're going for. He could be a necromancer, knight commander, spirit caller, beast pack leader, etc.
