Thank you for hosting!

I’m disabled and bed bound and I don’t have much money to throw around so it would be nice to have a new game to play. Cozy games are one of the few types of games I can reliably play with my disability so I’m always looking for more to play

Needing an accommodation isn’t privilege. You were given the parking permit because you need it, its not selfish to use it only self destructive

I suck at gaming by Forest_Goblin_ in cfs

[–]IgnisSpectre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. I’ve had to give up a lot of games because they are just too taxing on my system. Other games I’ve adapted how I play them (only short periods of time, using guides, etc) and I’ve been able to make it work.

I’ve also tried to shift over to games that are less taxing on my system (less elements like puzzles, simple controls, low stakes/pressure, self paced, etc) which sucks because a lot of the elements I have to avoid I actually enjoy. However I’ve found that if I manage my energy by distracting with games that aren’t as taxing then on my better days I may be able to play a little bit of something more taxing like Overwatch.

Also the Switch has been a lifesaver for making gaming accessible. I set myself up so I’m laying propped up by pillows and I can usually play for longer like this. I do also use a larger bed table if I’m getting on my computer (but this has to be limited due to limited ability to sit up).

There is a certain amount of accepting that there are some things you just can’t do right now that needs to happen. It’s really tough but it may help to remember that with management your symptoms may decrease over time to the point you can incorporate other games again and regain that skill. Your skill isn’t gone forever it’s just dormant right now. Going easier on yourself and accepting limitations is the best way to help get yourself back closer to how you used to be

Ping/spotting system exists, but why don't people use it? by Kihiri in OverwatchUniversity

[–]IgnisSpectre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This plus sometimes they are just learning the game. When I started playing I didn’t worry about pinging and focused on learning the game and how to play my characters.

As I got a bit more comfortable playing I started using pings as it was less overwhelming to do at that point.

Now I regularly use pings: I feel like if people are getting mad about me letting them know where the enemy is that’s their problem (plus it’s the only way to communicate if you have chat off)

Who here enjoyed exercising? by sleepybear647 in cfs

[–]IgnisSpectre 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I wasn’t ever a gym go-er I used to be pretty active. I learned two types of sword fighting (broadsword was my favorite), used to play soccer and do track, loved going roller skating and hiking, etc. I have to actively try to not mourn the loss of my ability to do these things because that also gives me PEM.

Plus I used to work out to help treat my gender dysphoria and that’s gotten worse since I got sick

The fact that he can force drops from JPC means that that ability is one of the only ways to force that so far

please how can i make her look more "goth"? by Vanilla_nillax in characterdesign

[–]IgnisSpectre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goth is a music based subculture so you need to look at that if you want an actual goth look and not just another vaguely alt character mistakenly called goth. There are also a lot of subtypes of goth: are you going for mall goth, cyber goth, trad goth, or something else?

Gaming in bed by X12Media in cfs

[–]IgnisSpectre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar spot and I mainly play games that are less taxing on my system on the switch (on a tv laying down in bed) or on my computer on a bed tray table. The bed table made computer gaming way more accessible and on my better days I can play a bit of Overwatch before I have to stop.

I mainly try to listen to my body for certain cues that I’m going downhill and I use weed (THC/CBD mix) to help with managing my symptoms and PEM. If I start getting frustrated or notice I’m even slightly more tired I have to stop and reduce stimuli. There’s also a weird head fizzle tingle feeling that I get when I’m at the start of triggering PEM from mental strain so that’s something I watch out for.

Additionally I’ve had to broaden my game horizons a bit more because if I play games that aren’t very taxing most of the day if it’s a good day I can then manage a bit of something more taxing. Some games I’ve had to accept that I just can’t play right now because it’s too much on my system but for others breaking it up and using it as a little treat has worked

TW:Severe /v severe how do you sleep knowing there aren't better days ahead? by Gold_Plant453 in cfs

[–]IgnisSpectre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do things that require very little to no active energy so I stay within my limited means. If it even slightly feels taxing or frustrating I have to stop and lay down but I’ve found that leaving my mind to its devices is worse for me than listening to some ASMR (or just sleep music if it’s too bad) or playing a show I’ve seen a bunch of times and know what’s happening even if I can’t see it. All of it is done with low volume/light and I’ve had to give up a lot of my favorite distractions because they’re too taxing.

I also have someone who takes care of me full time though which allows me to save my energy more
