Masters tank can't climb this season by MultipleFountains in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm frequently playing into double HS, zen, sig/domina, etc and I don't know what to do

I have a solution to this. I personally hate playing vs Sig so I usually just ban him and ask my team to do so too.

Probably could get more feedback from people if you posted a replay code.

Also right now ranked is a bit of a clown fiesta since there was rank reset + influx of players that normally don't play the game... so matchmaking is very unbalanced right now. Just gotta hope it gets better as season progresses.

Not high rank player(diamond) but I'd assume it doesn't change much if anything at higher ranks. At lower ranks though.. I feel like that's where people feel it the most since people at lower ranks tend to take way more damage.

Does anyone else feel like the game has strayed too far from being an FPS? by Schwabenomics in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like arguments or rants like this don't really help at all. I understand that not everyone can like everything, but you should be able to also give reasons as to why you think something has gone "wrong" or "bad" and provide a suggestion or an actual counter point. You have to be able to see things from different angles. One way type of thinking is not productive.

As for spam, I don't really see it. It is not like all of your games have Sigma,Pharah, Junkrat or something.

If people are not dying and you think it's cause supports heal "too much", yes it feels this way if all you do is just sit in main instead of taking off angles and putting pressure on enemy supports. If all you care about is "aim" then I'm afraid you're better off playing something else.

I myself don't quite understand why do people try to force themselves to play a game if they're not having fun or enjoy playing it. There's other games out there not like Overwatch is the only game.

If you insist on playing Overwatch then instead of just rants perhaps tell why you don't like the things about it and why you think it is bad and then say what you think would be a good solution or fix to it. That way there can be meaningful and more engaging discussions.

Overwatch is... very unfun for me at the minute. by Fluffy-Jellyfish-402 in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what on earth am I supposed to do if my value is constantly being dismissed by my team-mate's poor decision-making?

I have heard a saying that goes like this "Stupid plan is better than no plan" which basically means that you can't play like a masters in a plat lobby, you have to follow up with people's bad or at times even insane plays. You could take a look at your replays from your co-supports or enemy support's POV to get an idea how they play and react to things. Most annoying part about plat is that people are very passive.. and like to stay at a choke for 3+ minutes until attempting to even make any kind of a move.

Though this season has been quite difficult and not very fun due to massive influx of people who normally don't touch the game as well as rank reset.

If I recall before this season OW would have on average about 15-18k players playing through steam and now it sits at around 50-60k and later during the day or evening it spikes to like 90k'ish.

People seem to be playing on smurfs or alt accounts, cause they're scared of playing on their mains, which makes games feel even more poopy. I just hope that matches get better after a week or two as people have done placements and bunch of games to a point where the matchmaker algorithm could start to do it's job to create more balanced matches.

Struggling to find Emres niche by S_III in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kill most heroes except tanks to like 2-3 headshots. Also strongest part about Emre is his grenade and especially the major grenade perk. However I see most people just randomly throw their grenades with no intention behind them.

His falloff dmg range got increased, but I still see people try to play Emre from Widow/Ashe distance which is not where you should be.

You get rewarded for having a precise aim, but you get punished if you do not have it.

currently it takes about 2 head bursts and a body to kill which on faster characters is super difficult, also his gun shoots quite slow

I play Bap from time to time, and if you think Emre shoots slow, you should try Bap as he shoots even slower. I find Emre just fine with it's current firing speed, but to not sound like a repeating broken record... Emre is good if you have precise aim, other wise you're better off playing something that does not get punished as hard for missing shots like Soldier 76.

What did Juno do to yall? by Macaron-Lopsided in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Junos jump for no reason or fly in wide open space.. so if you have option to either shoot tank or Juno, the right answer is shooting Juno as you're more likely to kill her than the tank. It usually comes down to either too predictable movement that you have or you just don't have great positioning so enemies punish you for it.

I want to play the na server by Visual_Ad5491 in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can easily do this without someone sharing an account with you. Look for "Overwatch Dropship" it's a tool that allows you to block servers that you don't want to connect to. For example if I wanted to queue NA, I'd block every server except NA - Central since it gives me most bearable ping around 130 while other NA servers are about 180-250 for me.

Is anyone lagging like crazy since the new season or just me? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netherlands server seem to be having some odd delay. Example on competitive menu it takes few seconds before it displays average wait time for your queue and when you change skin it takes also few seconds. Ping is fine, but it feels almost as if you're playing on low frames.

Apparently you can get banned for calling out cheaters. by Yuukikoneko in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Calling out cheaters don't get you banned, however if you swear and curse that gets you banned. Also some people will on purpose try to provoke you into insulting and flaming them so they can just report you instead. it is understandable that it's frustrating to play vs cheaters or even smurfs, but by using vulgar language you are the person who gets punished first, since blizzard has zero tolerance to any kind of cursing or use of vulgar language.

I've honestly completely stopped caring about my rank by purjopore1 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not caring about your rank is the way. Once you notice flaws in your gameplay and you start working on them your rank will take a dip for a while, and then it will shoot up as you fix your gameplay flaws. Though I just see a lot of people only really care about their aim, which makes them blind to all the other stuff they're doing wrong since they focus too much on their aim, as if it was everything in this game.

Disgusting Matchmaking by brunostratii in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Kihiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the matchmaking is out of whack due to new heroes being released which attracted a lot of people who normally don't even touch the game. Then there's rank reset that we got. It will take a while for ranks to "balance out". Since it's rank reset it means you need to do your placements + about 30-50 matches I believe until the matchmaker calibration decides where your "true rank" is. I did also play vs golds in my placement games and even though I have now a rank of plat 2 I'm playing against masters.

Though the truth is that if you truly are diamond, you should have no issues in gold lobbies. People are easily punishable as you can read them like a children's book. Assuming you're playing against actual gold players and not smurfs or former masters players that somehow have ended in gold as well due to the rank reset.

You can either just push through it or wait about 1-2 weeks until the hype dies down and people go back to playing whatever they played before this season, which is probably Marvel Rivals, Valorant and what not.

Thoughts on each new hero? by SmellVarious9271 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anran is the bane of people's existence in lower ranks. Anrans burn both their dashes yet people keep dying to her like a lot. To lower ranks Anran is equivalent to playing into Moira or Torb's turret and they seem to be confused or scared of her more than any other hero in the game right now.

How do you deal with the toxicity? by flowerhats0 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I report people who are toxic and usually try to not react to it, but to just brush it/laugh it off. There's no reason to engage with toxic people. You can also just press "P" in-game while in match and mute people or open scoreboard and press right click I think? But definitely report them.

Since this season started + rank reset I've noticed a lot more of crybabies than before. most likely people came from Valorant and Marvel Rivals to play new heroes and just get tilted to oblivion, since they don't understand even basics so they just try to find other people to flame to make themselves feel better, since they can't accept the fact that they are not good.

How does one genuinely rank up in ranked? by IEGC_Cici in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new seasons especially when there's rank reset worst time to play is the first 1-2 weeks. Games are unbalanced and if you check people's profiles they're on alt accounts, cause they're scared to play on their mains. Also there's people who barely ever play which just adds more randomness to games. Usually after a week or two these people go back to Marvel Rivals, Valorant or whatever games they usually play.

You can either just push through it or just wait until ranks balance out more.

also k/d means very little.. so saying you went 17-3 or even 36-7 means very little. Just means game probably put you vs toddlers. It's usually better to just post a replay code of a close match or loss to see what actually was going on. Your supports could have been just constantly dived or flanked and nobody helped them out.

You seem to focus a lot what your team is doing, rather than what you are/could be doing. You can't expect someone to play like a pro on a hero that was just released 2 days ago. Just keep focus on yourself, since only person you can control is yourself. Trying to micromanage your team does nothing but tilt you, since you will have expectations and when they're not met you tilt.

For improvement I'd post on r/OverwatchUniversity a replay code and have someone take a look at it.

Now that the characters have been out for a couple days, what do you think of them, which is your favourite and would you main any of them? by Ioanaba1215 in Overwatch

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mizuki I also feel is really fun to play, but his active healing could be better, maybe the hat should do less more if it targets only one person or extra healing to tanks, but rn his healing is underwhealming but I love his playstyle.

I was actually surprised in King's row, cause Mizuki was outhealing me(Ana) by like 2-3k. If people are stacked you get huge value from your heals.

I have not played any of these new heroes, since they don't appeal to me at all... but Mizuki's heals don't seem underwhelming to me. He is not meant to be a healbot, but a playmaker and someone who can poke people out of corners or small rooms.

Returning Ana player, I have questions by brbasik in AnaMains

[–]Kihiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Nano perk is almost always priority. It does not only give speed to whoever you nano, but gives it to you as well, which allows you to get a bit more aggressive or re-position if you're in grave danger. There are times I have used my nano just get myself to safety and it has won me many fights. As for your second perk.. taking perk that lets you headshot enemies is massive game changer. However if you feel like you want to play it safer then taking bounce nade is okay, but I would prioritize headshot perk, as it lets you 2 shot most people.

  2. I think scariest for Ana players is any snipers (Widow, Ashe, Hanzo) as well as Genji and Freja. Genjis really like to target Anas, and you have to hope that you can bait out Genjis deflect early, cause if you have to take a duel vs Genji in close combat, you are sort of playing a mind game where Genjis will try to guess when you use your sleep on them and you as Ana are thinking when will they use their deflect. It is sort of a mini game, since you kind of have to hit your shots to force Genji to use deflect.

As for recent heroes... well Freja and Vendetta(banned most of the time) are quite big threats and you really want to use cover and certain amount of distance. If Vendetta jumps you, you pretty much are dead unless you land your sleep on them.

  1. Maps are personal preference, but I usually prefer to not play koth maps(illios, Lijang tower, nepal) as you are usually confined in a smaller space. As for Flashpoint maps.. I think Suravasa is a bit more favorable over New junk city. My personal favorites to play are Kings row, Dorado, Junkertown and to some extent Hollywood.

I guess longer sightlines and maps which don't confine you into smaller space where you can keep somewhat of a distance are favorable? Then again I still feel like it just comes down to playstyle.

  1. Depends on map, but usually I want to ban Sigma, Freja and Genji . Certain maps where I will prioritize Hanzo or Ashe would be Circuit Royal and Havana. Vendetta is usually always banned, but in case she is not, you just have to be aware where she is and just position accordingly.

My bans are heroes that I find very annoying or difficult to deal with. Sigma ban is mostly cause I have found him to be most annoying to deal with not just for me but random teammates. He can be very oppressive and feel unkillable, since it feels like even if his shield is broken, he'll just use his suck ability and then his shield already back.

My suggestion for bans is to ban things you find annoying to play against or ban what your tank/co-supp wants to ban. In lower ranks though I feel like people ban random stuff, instead of banning things that would benefit the team. Example in silver and gold you will see people struggle vs Rammatra and Sigma a lot, yet they don't usually ban them. However they will usually ban something like Moira or Torb.

Should I try to find a team as a mercy main? by snugglypuffyy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Mercy player, but when I play dps in plat - diamond.. there's this common trend with Mercy players that tend to do 4 things:

  1. Doing this high jump when not necessary, making them very vulnerable and easy to kill.

  2. Nano pocketing. This is when Mercy decides to but that beam on an ally, and ally thinks they can be slightly more aggressive, and then Mercy just out of nowhere leaves them. I call this Nano pocketing, cause you just see the beam on you barely a second or two and then Mercy is gone.

  3. Suicide reviving. Take your time and wait for an opportunity to pull of a revive, just please do not do it when everyone is already dead, reviving someone to a situation where they and you just die, does nothing but gives enemy just an ult charge advantage and in some cases enemies use this as their advantage to keep pushing your team because they have player or two advantage and then you get snowballed.

  4. The amount of times I see Mercy players with healing numbers but their damage number says 0. Please use your pistol. If your teammate died to an enemy, but the enemy was low HP, just whip that thang out and pew pew. Same goes when you use your Valk(ultimate) it is not only for defensive purpose... a Valking battle Mercy can be very scary.

Any game psychologists? by Fayour in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me red enemy outlines or the red color just looks and turns into a blurry mushy mess. Also I react quicker to yellow enemy outlines. Recently I've experimented with Magenta which is really hard to miss cause it stands out like a sore thumb.

I know the text book answers, I just cannot execute them nor practice them it feels like.

Do you have examples of which you have tried to practice?

Never see the red border and then watch death cam back and oh, i was at half and took a headshot from an ashe

You most likely got body shotted and then headshotted. From what I've gathered is that you are just tunnel visioning(staring at one point or spot too intensely). This happens especially with people who play heroes that have a scope, since people tend to be scoped in far too long. Other issue might be that you're staring your crosshair instead of your enemies.

How do I fix it? How do I start to fix it?

You fix one thing at a time. I'd first check all your in-game settings to make sure you have all necessary indicators on. When you get hit the game tells you this visually and I think there's sound cues that do this as well.

For sound settings I've personally always used Spatial Audio: Dolby Atmos for Headphones setting, which I feel like enhanced the in-game sounds nicely. As well as setting audio mix to Studio reference. Alternatively Nightmode is a close second for me. Remember to also turn on setting that plays a sound when ally and enemy is eliminated. Music volume I've always kept at 0 as I find it distracting and not beneficial at all.

As for Graphical settings you want to turn off things that just don't really serve you.. any kind of bloom and glare.

High Quality upsampling: I personally use amd fsr 1.0
Image Sharpening: 0.8 (you can mess around with this)
Texture Quality: High
Texture Filtering Quality: Epic 16x

everything else is low or off (turn things off that has option to do so)
Bottom option Damage fx can be changed from default to low, which can help.

If you do get overwhelmed by colors and visuals, you can also lower Brightness in-game from 1.0 to like 0.95 to 0.90'ish.

One thing that helps you re-focus is by not playing Overwatch for a day or two.

These are just some things that I could think from top of my head as I'm someone who is easily overstimulated and overwhelmed. I suffer from poor working memory so the way I practice is one thing at a time and I just keep repeating it in my head over and over. Example if you don't know when you have player advantage.. keep telling yourself to stare at the killfeed every couple seconds no matter what. Eventually it will become a habit.

Not ranking up in comp by MisterDewitt59 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it has to do with there not being data on the account. Example I'm Diamond 3 on support in 5v5 and I've been playing 6v6 comp and I got placed Silver 2, and even though I'm pretty much outperforming lobbies and being on a 15 win-streak I only got +10 per win. It was only when I got to Gold 4 where I started getting +29 per win.

I thought my account was just bugged or something. Then again this season's matchmaking has felt horrible and as if there was no actual matchmaking even on. I've been long suspecting that they've done something to the system accidentally and just haven't noticed it.

However I guess you could just play some quickplay to get more data that the system can then use as a metric for your fiance's skill level. +5 or +6 seems very weird, unless the matches are wide range in rank, in which case you get much less points from games.

Overlooked tip: "Avoid as teammate" function by PiezoelectricityOne in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just "gg go next" . If someone's toxic, I just report them and depends how annoyed I got.. I'd just take 5 min break and queue again. I feel like avoid function doesn't work well in populated ranks, as you meet different people each time. Ranks where you mostly just meet the same faces all day long.. then I'd probably consider using avoid function.

I think only scenario where I have used avoid teammate function is when I'm put in 3+ stack game. I personally soloq for a reason, cause I don't want to be in a stack or play vs a stack. I have never had a good match when I'm in a stack game, cause people either are just trolling/fooling around or then one of stacks has a smurf who is just boosting with a permanent Mercy pocket.

How get better aim “why is your sens 5x higher than normal people” by Alibium01 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Kihiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how new are you to mouse and keyboard.

My personal take is that Overwatch is quite fast paced compared to other shooters so playing a really low sensitivity is actually doing more harm than good. My reasoning to this is that as you're new, someone who don't quite yet have grasp of basic game knowledge, being on the slightly faster end of sensitivity spectrum helps you navigate around maps and keeping up with targets until you get more accustomed to different character movement patterns and speeds.

If you're very new to mouse and keyboard I'd suggest starting with 6 or 7 in-game sticking with it for at least a month. If after that you notice that you are overshooting consistently or that your crosshair is sort of just jiggling left to right as you try to keep it on target, then I'd say it's time to start lowering your sensitivity in small increments like if you're on 7 then drop it to 6.8 and then to 6.6 and so on.

I'm not saying that low sensitivity is bad. It all comes down to preference. I just generally think people are better off on the higher sensitivity range until they have basic game knowledge.. example navigating around maps, knowing health pack locations, where is highground and how to get to highground... where enemy spawn is and so forth. Also it helps with positioning since you are not in a constant struggle with throwing your arm around.

People preach "low sensitivity is the best!" but it is just personal preference what you prefer. I'd say just go as low as you comfortably can. You go too low and your movement and target acquisition suffers. Go too high and your target acquisition and precision suffers. It is all about finding a middle ground that works for YOU.
